ChancellorKremlin Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 While we're on the subject, is there a way to "activate" those pesky little people in the wasteland that don't just have generic dialogue, aren't companions, and don't have more than a line or two for for me to trick SmallerTalk into activating? I'm looking at Rotface, whom I find impossible to interact with with any plugins that require SmallerTalk.
prideslayer Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 I'm not sure I'm following... rotface has vanilla dialog or not?
Odessa Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 I think he means characters that you can open dialogue with, but top level options do not appear? Which is true of traveling merchants. Also, I think if none of their options are available any more you can't get any dialogue menu. Rotface specifically has a vanilla bug in his conversation that maybe doesn't help things.
ChancellorKremlin Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Yeah, what Odessa said. Usually, you can "trick" SmallerTalk into working, if you do things like, open the bartering menu, or say "can I ask about something else" and then regress to the initial convo menu, things like that. But Rotface has nothing like that, and pressing E on him opens his normal dialogue rather than the "So whats up? - Same old, same old." routine.
jaam Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 You cannot do that starting from the vanilla activate. I solved that, in my personal copy, by adding a separate key to enter conversation with those. (EDIT: based on the first post of this page, are we in the proper support topic )
shardoom Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 It must be different. Smallertalk doesn't activate from a joypad button press. Although, when using a joypad you can press 'E' on the keyboard to make smaller talk start. It's a bit clunky though and kinda hard on a moving target. It's using the scancode returned from GetControl 5 (activate). It should also be checking for the one from GetAltControl, if it's not already. Not sure if gamepads/joysticks are different.
jaam Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Oh really? SWEET! That would be pretty cool. Nice one. Sorry but it won't be that easy. NVSE made provision to handle joystick control, but it does not look like it is implemented. AltControl only checks the mouse controls, nothing checks the Joysticks control Anybody had success setting pad buttons as control using SetControl or SetAltControl ? I hide my pad from my PC to avoid conflicts with game that automatically select it.
shardoom Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 It's not a big issue, don't worry about it. If I desperately 'need' to make smallertalk work I can use the keyboard button. (Already have to do that wither 'rapist' button, thankfully they still operate without having to switch control types)
prideslayer Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Can you tell your gamepad to emulate the keyboard, so it actually sends an 'E' scancode rather than a button press? I used to set all of mine up this way, and my joysticks/throttles, so I didn't have to dick around in the game settings. I just told them to send keypresses that matched what I'd already set the keyboard up to do.
shardoom Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 It's just a bog standard xbox 360 pad pride. Can't personalise it in any way. Shit, can't even tell it to make the big 'xbox' button do anything... (That would have made a great 'rapist' button lol)
Claviefire Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Okay I installed this forgetting I had small talk installed and I got a message saying I used small talk as well and that I should use one of three mods, small talk/ smaller talk/tone talk. So I went into FOMM and unchecked small talk and rebuilt my Merge Patch etc, It crashed my game on load saved game, in fact it crashed all my saved games regardless. I tested them all. So I tried to go back to using old set up and everything crashed again, to say I am !!!!!!! off is to put it mildly! Only installed this as Sexout Soliciting lists it as a required file!
RitualClarity Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Maybe she wants a little "small talk"... Sorry, couldn't resist. For your problem I don't think it is this mod. This mod you start the conversation with the NPC and a few seconds later they start the conversation (if not the standard conversation you have to close that one if memory serves me correctly) Perhaps let her get what ever is bothering her off her chest and see if she continues. There might be some mod prompting this conversation that needs to be completed. Make a hard save. (command or manual either or) allow the conversation to continue. Make some notes on what she is trying to talk to you about. Can help narrow the problems. Somebody should know what mod or such it is from. See if addressing the conversation stops the constant prompting for a conversation with you. If not give us a sample of the conversation. As accurate as possible. Quotes if possible. If memory serves me correctly this mod only gives a general greeting and a general goodby. Anything else is from some other mod.
Odessa Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 It is probably caused by another mod, try disabling all your mods and see if it stops. If it does, then enable/disable them in batches until you narrow down which one is a fault, and then let the author know so they can fix it.
RitualClarity Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 That also could be the result of you talking to her before. It can take a few seconds before SmallerTalk takes over depending on your settings if memory serves me correctly.
KainsChylde Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Thanks for the replies, they were very helpful and I managed to fix it. One more question How do I set smaller talk not to trigger on generic NPCs? The ones that normally do not open a dialogue window. Say I press E on a NCR soldier, and keep walking. He'll say something like "blablabla nuclear winter" then after the timer expires, he'll turn me around and force me into the generic Smallertalk dialogue tree. If I shorten the timer, that'll just cut him mid-sentence before I'm forced into a dialogue tree. Powder ganger is the same, when they're not actively approaching your toon. You'd press E on one of them, hear them say "any lawman that comes after me won't have it easy". Then after a few seconds you'd be stopped and forced into the generic Smallertalk dialogue tree (which does not lead to any sex, as they're not the ones approaching). I just want to run around pressing E on unnamed NPCs to hear them say their one-liners without being forced into a dialogue window every time... Turn smallertalk off and/or remove it. The entire purpose of this mod is opening conversations with NPCs you normally can't talk to in order to access conversation options other mods have added. For example, sexout sex adds a topic to ordinary conversations enabling you to proposition people. But it only adds the option to existing conversations, it doesn't enable talking to normally silent NPCs. With smallertalk you open that conversation, enabling access to the original dialogue. Sorry if I'm overexplaining, I just took my bedtime meds.
astymma Posted April 5, 2014 Author Posted April 5, 2014 The MCM options for SmallerTalk include a "Enable SmallerTalk" option. Simply turn it off when you want to hear their one-liner goodbye flagged responses.
Jayce Dimmer Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Lil' suggestion; a hotkey function would be a godsend. So rather than having to go to the MCM every time you want to enable/disable SmallerTalk, you just press a hotkey to force a conversation with the targeted NPC. Other than that, this mod's perfect.
Atasuke Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I have a bit of a problem with NPC greetings. Every NPC now greets me with simple, silent "Hello" and in some cases (Lacey from Mojave Outpost is one I can confirm) even erased their dialog tree leaving only the options added by the mods. Also, for some reason I now have two options to leave the conversation (vanilla "Goodbye" depending on the conversation and "I'll leave" that never changes). Disabling SmallerTalk doesn't change anything and uninstalling it broke my saves. I have no idea how to fix this and the only thing I installed that "should" mess with greetings is this mod, that's why I ask for help here. Try disabling (both esp and all esms) SexoutSlavers3 and check if the problem continues.
Atasuke Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I've checked and you were right - it was SexoutSlavers3core .esm. Thanks for help!
astymma Posted November 29, 2014 Author Posted November 29, 2014 This is the wrong thread for SmallerTalk discussion. Go HERE instead.
Strec Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I've checked and you were right - it was SexoutSlavers3core .esm. Thanks for help! Yes SexoutSlavers3 needs the possibility of engaging dialog with any NPC ir order to permit future options like trying slaves or selling them and for now the greeting is forced on NPC without regarding their type (respawning or named). There will have McM options to activate/deactivate this in the second episode. Dont understand what is the problem, I did think SmallerTalk was done to engage dialog with NPCs who haven't one, if they already have dialog what is the need? (no cristicism or rivality, just want to ameliorate my mods )
Cracklemere Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 This is a great mod but it's being a pain in the ass. Despite me enabling the option for it not to activate when sneaking, I find myself having casual conversations to these people I'm trying to sneak past or kill... I even tried the option that disables the mod and it still does nothing. So, unless it's another mod that uses this one keeping it functioning, I don't really know how to get past this annoyance.
RitualClarity Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 I see that an attempt has been made to rectify the AI for some NPCs locking up, and sorry if this is a known problem but I am still getting some AI lockup. EDIT: I checked the NPC's inventory and a reset token is there, its just not doing anything. Hope this helps. UPDATE: I found the problem, it wasn't smallertalk. It was another mod SexoutCrowdsB, tried loading smallertalk lower in the load order but Crowds seem to lock up NPC AI after the animation. SexoutCrowdsB has had some problems in the past. It is a great idea but one that is very hard to setup and implement.
cursus sextus Posted March 24, 2022 Posted March 24, 2022 NPC keep try to initiate dialogue with me after I talked to them . It cut off their standard chatter dialogue midway and try to walk up to me initiate dialogue box no matter what they were doing before. It so annoying and immersion breaking.
