Why is it when a sport like football gets mentioned as violent it becomes about the US or Americans under the guise of being about football. Every country on this planet has it's major sports and NONE of them are without injury or even the potential to be fatal. It isn't about understanding "Those Americans" it is about understanding human nature. Every single one of us as humans has the potential for violence, no matter how we decide to express it. Whether it be through sports or directly against another person, place or thing. Football - running head on into a brick wall repeatedly. Soccer - nuts shoved into your neck by a well placed kick,  Ice or Field Hockey - skull caved in by a 100 mile an hour puck or sliced and diced by a hockey stick. Baseball - Skull caved in by a 100 mile an hour hardball or well placed bat. Hell even something as simple as Cricket can be dangerous in the hands of a pissed off player, wooden mallet up side your head sure as hell isn't going to feel good. And it has happened. Some of the most violent games there are, were NOT invented in the US nor were they invented by Americans. Football was derived from the English game of rugby. which has just as many long lasting injuries. Baseball was invented here, not quite as brutal as Rugby.

Field Hockey which spawned Ice Hockey was played in Northern Europe for centuries, The first artificial ice rink (mechanically-refrigerated) was built in 1876, at Chelsea, London, England. The rules of modern ice hockey were devised by Canadian J G A Creighton. In 1875, the first game of ice hockey with Creighton's rules was played in Montreal, Canada. And yet America and Americans get blamed for having a Violent game such as Football?  Give me a break. No I do not like football, to me it is as senseless as hitting and chasing a stupid little ball around 18 holes or two men standing in a ring beating each other senseless and to a bloody pulp but it is human nature, Not the nature of Americans alone.

Just saying, I don't liek football either, its just when your blazed and bored, you do whatever lol. I guess shoes would have been smart though... Anyway, Le Doctor said ti would actually heal really fast, as it was a really small break right below the knee. So Im good :D And the pain is pretty much gone, I got some tree and slept for a few hours, and I was good.

Glad to hear you'll survive :)  and yeah, shoes, and no mud would help a lot the next time you feel so inclined to play. of course no bud is optional ;)

until high school when gym class forced flag football

Yours too, huh?

Mine too; thankfully I knew the system well enough to not need to take Gym and was "lucky" enough to "skip" grade 9 and half of grade 10.  More of was scammed out of all of grade 9 and half of grade 10.  Fucking hate all these options out there for those of us who "have trouble performing at expected levels".  I said fuck you to my "teacher's" at that "high school" and went off to get my diploma with only one victory lap, and that was mostly for my 40 hours of community service.

And the vice principle who thought I wouldn't be able to get my full diploma got shit on by me by getting it and looking at her as I accepted it and then gave her the finger.

And then the Secretary laughed, as did all the staff I was friends with who knew I was going to go for broke and get the full one despite said VP saying I should aim for one that is mostly fine.

I played Football as a Quarterback because ever since I was a kid, I always have a good arm to throw.  I didn't play baseball at school and such, just only with the neighborhood kids and I have my share of broken car mirrors and house windows, lol.  I played as the backup number 2 quarterback in Middle School and High School.  I could have been a starter but I was almost always occupied during the summer and early Fall with Motocross races every weekend.  I used to always make fun of the dickhead Football players that used to call others wimps that didn't play.  I would defend my fellow nerd (yes, I'm a nerd that raced Motocross and played Football, lol) and tell the dickhead football players they were pussies to race in Motocross and that they didn't have the balls to jump a 150 foot jump like I did regularity (that's why my knees ain't what they used to be).

I have my share of injuries, but nothing compared to all the broken bones and concussions I had during my days in Motocross racing, those were fun times indeed.  When halo CE came out for the original XBOX, I was only a sophomore in High School and I really wanted to have a custom molded Master Chief MJONIR MK V racing suit and helmet, lol.  That would have been badass, to race as the Master Chief, at least I did win 2 championships (80cc Expert class Champion) in 99 and 00, good times :)

So just hang in there and heal up buddy, we all have our share of painful stories to tell, like one time, I was racing, I hit a 120 foot jump with another rider at the same time, we collided in mid air and fell like 50 ft from the air, he broke both his arms and I broke my left leg (shattered both tibia and fibula), I still managed to hop back on my bike and finish the race, it was all on adrenaline that keeped me from blacking out until I finished the races and collapsed after crossing the checkered flag in 3rd place, they sent my trophy to the hospital when I woke up, lol.

Motocross is an easy way to get hurt. I still ride myself. I have an old hotrodded TT500 that I still tear across the mountains on. Sadly, I'd need to put in ice screws to go for a ride right now so I'll wait 'til Spring gets closer. :D

That old beast is bored .020" over, has 11:1 skirtless piston and chrome rings, it's ported and polished, Megacycle hollow race cam, forged rockers, Ti alloy valves (and retainers and keeper), forged connecting rod, White Brothers/SuperTrapp exhaust, 48mm Mikuni with accelerator pump that came off a 900 Sportster :o, all new Progressive Suspension parts and more....too much more.

It can stand up in all five gears, though. So it's not a machine to not show a little respect to. You should see the look on a Harley rider's face when you pass them in a wheelie, though! LMAO!

HAHA, sure don't need more reminders on the pain you can easily get from Motocross, but it is fun as hell to race and see how much balls you have to clear a large jump, jump in front of another rider to the inner corner to pass him going 50+ MPH, lol or having the holeshot at the start of the race and then fall in the first turn and have all 40+ riders run you over.

Sounds like you have a badass bike, mind if I take her for a spin? I can handle it, lol.  I have 2 bikes, first, I still have my trophy 1999 Kawasaki KX 80 with all sorts of goodies like Pro Circuit exhaust fatty pipe and muffler, Pro Taper handle bars, D.I.D chains w/ Renthal race sprockets, Splitfire race forged internals like piston, rings and such that were bored like hell (I'll have to do a test to see how much today, it's been years and I forget what it had then).  It also has aftermarket Pro Circuit suspension, wheels and race Dunlop tires.  The entire bike is modified in a way, I think only the plastic on the bike like fenders were factory, I also had Team Green Kawasaki sponsor me at the time.  My 80 can easily beat a factory 125CC 2 stroke/250CC 4 stroke bike and the riders that rode them hated me for it, lol.

My second bike I use today to mostly hit trails in the mountains not far from my home (about an hr drive) is a 2013 Kawasaki KX450F 4 stroke, man I love that bike, it's mostly factory except for a FMF Factory 4.1 RCT Exhaust system (sounds badass) and jerry rigged headlight and tail lights for night time riding and of course, a battery for that (I have a hand crank charger since this battery is small and doesn't take much to recharge).  But I still love how 2 strokes sound over 4 stroke bikes, I may turbo charge my 2013 KX though, lol.  popping wheelies even in 6th gear is fun and easy for me and I love doing that on the long country roads near my home.

We call Soccer... Futbol. Anyways, I can't wait for the World Cup in Brazil! I'm going for U.S.A. and/or Costa Rica. Since I'm Cuban and Costa Rican born in the states. I can't root for Cuba because... well, lets face it, they suck. Because of the system out there. They are a minority and have decent experience because they don't train much against good teams. This makes it hard for them to elevate. They are better baseball players.

Not a fan of American Football. Much less Baseball. It's just too slow., whereas Soccer is a very technical sport. Always moving. Well, that also depends. I love Europe futbol. I have many favorite teams across Europe. Except Real Madrid. Never liked Maurinho even thoug he's no longer with Real Madrid. I also do not like that pretty boy Christian Renaldo. He thinks he's the best. pshhhh... Messi is x10 better. Barcelona! <3 Naymar is okay. He seemed to mature more now that he's playing in Europe. It's a different system my friend. Different system. Europe futbol is very very fast pace.

Quiztime: 1954 (after two misereable losses (*cough*) we finally won something of value that year!), 1966 (we got cheated by a russian referee, so the title actually belongs to us, sorry brits, but that cheated title is why you'll never win it again and always mess up in penalties, you are cursed!), 1974 (most important date for dutch football fans! Thank you! ), 1990 (won it in the homeland of our nemesis aka "the catenaccio-diver-actors"), and now hopefully 2014, preferably against "Orange County"...where am I from? :D :D :P

And yes, American Football...and Baseball...still trying to figure out what it is with those two sports. and don't come at me with "American Football" is more "manly" and a sport for real men...stop wearing full-plate-armour and get it one like those Rugby-Players if you want me to blieve THAT!

That full plate armor cuts both ways.

With the added protection it affords, it's become a much higher impact sport now. And because of that, it's also become more dangerous. Being "hit" in a professional football game is the equivalent to being in a 30mph car crash.

When you have 300# rugby players attacking you then you'll see rugby players in protective gear. If American football was all a bunch of 150# skinny guys then they wouldn't be wearing the armor. ;) But that's something you wouldn't notice unless you actually watched the game or tried playing it. :D

Exactly. A fully suited linebacker weighs over 250# in most cases and hits his target at 30mph (maybe more at times). It's a lot more brutal than any hits a rugby player will be taking. It's why most football players retire in their mid-20s. If they didn't have any protective gear they wouldn't last a full season.

Its commonly thought that the worst thing to happen to boxing was the introduction of those thick gloves.

With that much protection for their hands, boxers are more apt to throw blows to the head. The impacts of those head shots have rattled brains badly enough to cause some truly severe trauma.

Before the gloves got so thick, fighters would concentrate on body blows. Punching someone in the head can shatter bones in your hands if they're not padded. Not to mention gouging up your flesh from something called "fight bites". If you punch someone in the face, chances are quite high tat their teeth will scrape up your knuckles.

Nevermind just the ripped open skin...human mouths are invariably filthy, and fight bites are highly prone to infection.

Out of all the sports on TV, Football puts me to sleep the fastest.  You would think it'd be baseball, but nope, football!

Even faster than golf?

Alternatively you could try playing chess with your cat.

Exactly.

If you can't fall asleep, you'll win.

Either way you'll feel better before it's over.

Fool-proof plan[:
