$25 bucks for a demo that may or may not become the full product? GTFO. I would almost think this was some scam to get as much money as possible and then bailing but it does seem like there is some considerable work put into it already so I'll give them the benefit of doubt. I would gladly pay twice the amount if the full product turns out great though.

It won't become a full product. It is directly ripping resources from the games of two of the largest video game companies around. The second it gets noticed by their 'people' it will get hit with a cease and desist letter at the least. At worst, since their is money already involved, they will be sued so hard their grandchildren will still be paying it off.

I hate our legal systems, but I see the latter playing out. Especially if it isn't noticed until it's had an official 'release'.

Either you're one of the shittiest spam bots ever or you're tying to tell us something. Is little Timmy stuck in a well somewhere?

@Daguy

I agree but I still would like the game be realized even if under the ever present danger of incurring the wrath of the relevant game companies. I suspect the makers might have an inkling of this as well and are trying to get paid now. If it goes tits up then they still got some cash out of it, if it does get released then they get paid twice; win, win.

It would be interesting to see it complete, I just truly doubt it will happen.

Problem with that win/win situation is, that if they get fit by a massive fine, they will go bankrupt and any money they bring in will be gone, or they will spend the rest of their life paying it off.

If you get hit by a $88,594,539.00 fine, there isn't much you can do but file for bankrupcy, change your name, and move to the other side of the planet. And that isn't a fake number either: ts somethign Blizzard did to a woman running and making money off a private WoW server.

They go for the throat. I find it sickening, personally, but its reality. Not saying its the same situation, or that the same will happen, but I certainly wouldn't take the risk.

Wow. Stupid greedy person. After my first mil I would have bailed but she stuck around for 3mil. I actually dont know if the game is actually stripping resources off other games but Im gonna take your word for it. Also idk what the legal loophole is with regards to donations so I wonder if they can kill this thing now or are they waiting for it to go gold(lol)before they get their lawyers in.

I agree that it would be great to see this done and released but if what you say about asset stripping is true then this thing has no chance in hell of surviving. A while back there was a fan made Streets of Rage remake that was released for free but Sega issued a cease and desist order and pulled the thing down. Partly cause they were re-releasing their classic games on digital format and having this hot new thing that does the old thing better would have dented their profits. At the end of the day its all about the profits >_>

If things go to shit then I guess theres always this :P

Well, the character models (currently) are or appear to be direct model and texture rips from World of Warcraft. If they have been recreated, the creator is incredibly talented, and inept at the same time - because the quality is also the same as they are in WoW and don't fit the world around them. (and I suspect those resources are from another game, too.)

The conversation wheel is a direct rip from Mass Effect 2.

I may be wrong, and these things may change by 'release', but the entire point of all this seems to be making the WoW races hump in a single player game. The nude models will likely be from scratch (or another source), since some of the screenshots are pretty good and worlds better than the actual WoW models, but currently i'm pretty sure those in the demo are rips.

The name will also likely be a point of grievance.

But then, sometimes these things slip past the radar. At least until they are released. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limbo_of_the_Lost for example.

Maybe the big boys will get cheezed off, but then again even they may not be able to do much more than shut it down if those responsible are doing it from some flat in the backstreets of a 2nd world country using false identidies.

Well, the dev is apparantly russian, so I suppose it depends on how Russia handles the copyright claims of US companies against their citizens.

Im sorry but WoW models are horrid, they are basic of basic. They use textures to give all definition to the body.

Check under the WIP. That's Miranda directly ripped from ME 2. Which is all well and good for a free Fallout mod but a huge nono in this case.

Eh' date=' iunno. Could just be a placeholder model, one she had on hand.

As for being a "huge nono", the game, when it's done, will be free, so ultimately there's no problem. It only starts to get murky when you talk about the betas. The latest one requires a donation of something like $25 to access, but there is also a free beta that it older. So, at no point does anyone [i']have[/i] to pay simply to have access to it, just to the latest version, and if you don't want to pay, you can always wait until release and get it free anyway.

I don't think Auril means any harm by it. She's devoting a lot of time to this, from the look of it, and likely needs a little income to make up for the hours she's not actually working. But she knows you can't count on donations, so she hung a carrot. If she used a different carrot and gave the whole beta for free, there probably wouldn't be a legal issue at all.

I just hope Blizzard leaves her alone long enough to get the game released.

Is this the free version or the donator version?

I don't know anything about the free version. My advice would be to just download parts 3 and 4 again and then try to extract them all at once.

If hes using the meshes and all from the game he CANNOT charge for it. To do so breaches Copyright. He most likely doesn't have permission to uses the meshes anyway if he has used them.

For those concerned, Auril (The creator) has always said it'd be free. She does accept donations and donors above a certain threshold have earlier access to demos, betas and whatnot, but she has always insisted that the games themselves will be free.
