Whenever the mod displays a message (screenshot), it forces my character out of whatever they're doing - it unequips my weapons or spells and resets the character to an idle state. This is problematic because it can happen in the middle of combat.

This should allow you to use weapons, but you also have a special spell called “Spell Sword.”
