I think we can all agree though that the afro in Morten's hair pack looks terrible (if you're reading this, Morten, no offense; I love all your other hairs and actively use one on my beloved character ). So Monsto has a point in demanding more afros.

I have been thinking about getting them myself... ... but don't want to smell funky or gross... ...I make these and reckon they would look epic on Dreadies... ....wouldn't mind seeing a few of these in Skyrim on some Dreads... ...:

 

I've had dreads for 13 yrs. the first year or so sucked pretty hard because I didn't know what the fuck I was doing and everyone I talked to wanted $100 to 'fix' it. And I'm cheap.

 

You'll need 3 things:

 

 

1) someone to twist them the first time

2) someone to roll them regularly (like making snakes out of clay).

3) patience.

 

get it twisted once, wash and roll it regularly, and then you need to leave it the hell alone. Seriously . . . don't keep fucking with it. It takes months, just live with it. 

 

My syster rolled it up the first time. a month later, I didn't think it was "right" so I pulled em apart. I then paid someone to "fix it" and she was like "you shudda just leff it alone". And she was right. It would have been fine. So get someone to make twists and the rest is easy. I used wax for a couple months and I washed while wearing one of those really thin nylon caps. . . so that my scrubbing wouldn't break em up.

 

I wash with Dawn. Yes the dish soap. It DESTROYS the scalp oils and doesn't try to do you any favors by conditioning or making it fuller or whatever other shit it is that normal shampoos do. That shit is designed to keep it from tangling, which is exactly the opposite of what you want. You could also use Dr. Bronners Magic Soap. Amazon sells it. Your local hippie mart will have it. It's an all purpose soap so it's also 'clean' in that regard. 

 

The first few months might benefit from some kinda wax to hold it together because it will WANT to come apart, but that depends on your hair. My hair's kinda thin anyway and they lay down and it took a while to get long enough locks that it didn't want to come apart at the root. if you have thicker hair, they will lock up pretty quickly and give you the porcupine look early on. either way, 6-9 months and they'll be done and you won't need any more wax ever again. 

 

After that point, all you have to do is wash and roll it. I did that weekly for probably 3 years. I'd wash it in the shower, the wife would roll it at the root. These days, since it's ankle length, it takes me FOREVER to wash it, like :45 to an hour and that's just at the root. So instead I creep in to the local Snip n Hack and have them wash it. Costs $7, they do it better than I ever have and it takes :20. I come home with it wet and the wife takes another :20 to roll it at the scalp. She then gives me twin french braids that shorten it to about waist length. I try to do that monthly.

 

Yes, that's right . . . only monthly. since my hair is kinda thin, the scalp is pretty open at the roots of the dreads. Yeah it gets kinda oily, but you can't really tell from a distance. The shaft itself is like an old shirt I can't remember the last time i washed anythign that's below my shoulders, it just doesn't need it. Just let it dry and keep it dry and it won't stink. That's the key right there. The smelly ones are smelly because they wrap it up in a tam (a knit dread hat) soon as they get out of the water and they leave it there . . . so not only does it mildew, but the biologicals from your body help stink it up too. only time mine smell is when we go to Texas coast. swimming (ocean or pool) and the super high humidity of the coast and they just never dry out. couple days of that and they start to stink . . . but it's not that "holy shit... what the fuck is that smell!" stink. . . it literally smells like a flannel shirt that's been on the floor in the back of the closet for many years. nope, no shit. So, as long as you let it dry, it won't stink.

 

And one day, you'll walk up to the mirror and go "damn, son" or you'll be out in public and all the sudden someone will walk up to you and go "How long?" and you'll know they're done. It's kinda like bikers with the 2 finger wave on the freeway. I always stop ppl and talk about it. There's this little bitty woman about 40 (i'm 48) that I've seen at a local music festival the last 4-5 years and her shit is SUPER long. She's over 20 yrs and wears em looped back up and attached, end to root, and it's still thigh long (on her). She always does some crazy buns n loops n shit. Every year, i'm there with the wife and this woman and her friends stroll up and we drink n laff n shit. I still don't know her name (=

I've met all kinds of ppl with dreads... old school west indie and jamaican rasta, samoan, even american indian, but white guys, I dunno man . . . they just never look good.

 

I'll still answer your questions and all, and the general stuff may help (like keeping em dry)... I just can't tell you whether or not some the specifics will matter.

Actually that's not true either. In death, the scalp loses moisture and recedes, creating the illusion that the hair is continuing to grow. In reality it isn't actually 'growing', as once a person dies, their follicles die almost immediately along with them.

 

This recession of skin is the very same reason that fingernails also look as if they continue to grow after death. Dead skin shrivels and desiccates, revealing more of the harder and more resistant tissue that makes up hair and fingernails (keratin), the roots of which extend much further into the body than the eye can see.

Most of the hair we have available to us is from the Sims 2 and Sims 3 modding community, so your complaint should go there. I don't think there's a whole lot of Skyrim modders that can make quality hair meshes that have the same level of detail as those of the Sims hair mod authors.

 

Also, I've heard that making afros is harder than straight hair, which sounds rather logical if you think about it. Maybe if the style of the hair strands of Morten's looks good to you, you can remodel it to your tastes.

Nah, they're are some pretty nice, though limited, afros for SIms 3 as of recently. Like here, here and here. They can probably be converted with that Sims to Skyrim tutorial thats been floating around, but I personally don't have the time.

well, to be honest, calling a whole group of modders racist because that one fucking haircut isnt done yet is pretty racist. if id take this title seriously, id call bullshit on his racism-title and call him / her a lazy sloth for not spending the time nagging about it for modding it. would have taken way less time, and at the same time also brought a new mod to the community. its even way more stupid when later posts confirm that cornrows, dreadlocks, and even a afro, are already modded, and that fellow simply didnt google well enough

 

just scale the friggin afro from that one mod up by 500 percent, and watch out when your character equips a torch to lighten a dungeon :lol:

That's a problem these days. The users really think modders do their work for the users. USERS ARE SECONDARY. The mod author does the work for him/herself in the first place. If you want this hairstyle done then do it yourself. But don't expect this effort from others just because of you.

It's the gimme gimme gimme attitude which pisses me off. As a modder you won't be asked 'Hey, what are you working on?', you only hear 'Can you do this?' 'Can you fix that?' 'Can you explain how to get it work (because I'm to lazy to read a short install guide nor I want to get a little knowledge about modding basics)?'. It takes too much time to reply those comments so you don't have any time left to reply positive ones(and no time for reading the whole pages of a thread, I just read the last one and thought wtf).

 

Modding is about sharing work not about selling a product. So be glad (not only you) that there are people who are willing to share their work.

Alright, so it destroys the comedy of the post that many people apparently got...

. . . but here's the truth Mr Party Pooper: I could not give a single shit less about afros. I had been watching some random youtube, realized there were no afros in skyrim, and thought oh maybe "it would be funny to pretend to rant about it". 

 

As creator of this thread and this site, as well as having been the sole proprietor behind user support for many years for technical (albeit temporary) websites as well as other meat-space "endeavors" that I'm not going to list here, I'm well aware of "lazy users" . . . and you know what? I've found that "lazy users" are not so lazy at all when given effective instructions. Out of >50k downloads of HDT, I can count on 2 hands the number of times I've had to redirect a user to the install instructions . . . because I took great care to make sure that the path was clear and that the instructions were clear.

 

So if you have included instructions, and find that, as you said above, "lazy users" are asking you how to get your mods to work, then write better instructions.
