Raven 54 Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 Player Homes whether they are Vanilla or a Mod, best thing that you like, worst things you dislike. Which ones make your permanent playlist. I only have one that is semi permanent Skyfall Estate, the only reason I don't ditch it is the Auto Sorting function for using Smithing, Enchanting, Potions crafting (which I hardly use as I find enough to get by). The Estate is entirely too big (for my taste) and gets glitchy if you put too much stuff in it (NPC/Crafting/HS Mannequins) In General I find too much emphasis put on Crafting/ Display/ Children why every single PH in Skyrim Has got to have space to store all the crap one picks up as well as Collectibles, while having room to adopt children I will never know, I am using Dragonfall Castle which is larger than Whiterun it seems, so much wasted space. Why do Mod Makers make them so incredibly large that there is so much wasted space or so incredibly small that one cannot turn around inside them, and if you make a room with kids beds it should be convertible for followers. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/2185 Skyfall Estate https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/66300 HS Mannequins https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/12025 Dragonfall Castle
belegost Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 (edited) I sleep at inns and use NFF to store all my stuff. Who needs a home? If LOTD only had a museum part with the displays but without all that crap quests, crap house, crap NPCs and that poor excuse of a guard - Avram, I'd use that. Because Ilike the idea of displaying stuff, but I hate everything else about this mod. Edited September 25, 2024 by belegost 2
Kastagir Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 Many player-made home mods have terrible lighting. This is caused by one of two things. No lighting template being assigned and/or location not being assigned properly. Most often there is no lighting template assigned to the interior or arbitrary values are assigned instead. As a result they are probably dismissed by more discerning users. It is easily fixed with the creation kit by assigning an appropriate lighting template to greatly improve the interior lighting. If it has no location assigned you just go out the door (to refresh location values by entering the exterior Tamriel worldspace - which assigns the appropriate weather) then re-enter the home. Personally I don't care about adoption-enabled homes or navmesh quality. If the lighting is shit it gets fixed or uninstalled. 1
Miauzi Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 For me there is only one house that I use -> the TARDIS - called "Sidrat" in the mod https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/38420?tab=description&BH=0 Ever heard the name "Tardis"? It sounds like -> TIMELORDS Yup - there is also a "Tardis" in the Aubris universe (https://www.elderscrollsportal.de/almanach/Aurbis) ... because the entrance of this house can not only be moved to different places in Skyrim - but also to the Oblivion spheres like the "Soul Grave" 1
Raven 54 Posted September 25, 2024 Author Posted September 25, 2024 (edited) Aannnd the freaking beds, whoever made that damn bed with the tall posts and rail on top should be trapped in it for an Eternity! Not to mention most are not useable when SL calls for a scene to start, why would one not make the beds available for Coitus?! Does not matter if one uses OStim or SexLab. Ronin79 Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 Not that modders will pay attention to this, but here are some of the things I HATE about most player homes on the Nexus: Too big. I don't want to go through fifty fucking load doors just to get around the house! Smelter and forge inside a house. WTF? Who has a smelter in their house? Even in a castle, the forge is outside in the yard. Too much clutter in too small a space. I've had to uninstall so many player homes, because they just had too much useless crap laying around. Bad lighting. I've had to either completely redo the lighting, or just outright uninstall so many mods, because you cant' see a damn thing inside the house. 99.9% of "Castle" mods. See #1. They're too fucking big! You're not going to be housing half of Skyrim's population in your player home. At most, you need quarters for yourself and your family, four spare bedrooms for your favorite followers, and a barracks that's located OUTSIDE the castle to house any guards you might have. I'm pretty sure most of the people making these mods have never seen a Castle, or even bothered to read up on how they were designed. Scripts. I don't need, or want any additional scripts for a player home. Clutter that isn't static. No. I'm not picking all that shit up and putting it back on the shelves/tables after it goes flying. Massive rooms containing nothing but mannequins, chests, and display cases. No thanks! Bad navmesh. If my followers can't go inside/walk around inside, then what good is it? Unless I really like your mod, I'm not making my own navmesh just to use it. NPCs included with the house. A lot of them don't even have proper facegen. If I want npcs in a house, I'll put my own in it. Bards. I hate Skyrim's bards, and I certainly don't want one in my house. Teleport spells. Seriously, that's just lazy. Tiny houses/towers that have unbelievably enormous interiors. *Facepalm* One thing I had always wanted to see was a proper ruined Castle as a vampire player home, and I never found one that did it right, so I had to do it myself using various assets from other mods. 8

Alis_999 Posted October 19, 2024 Posted October 19, 2024 (edited) Proudspire Manor only, because Solitude. Solitude is metropolitan and civilized city. The rest of Skyrim looks like "a thatched barn where brigands drink in the reek and the rats roll on the floor with the dogs". Edited October 19, 2024 by Alis_999 1
DocClox Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 Lakeview Manor. It's got all the resources, but I need to work for them so they feel earned. Most CC/modded homes throw every thing they can at you: display mounts for every unique? Check. Crafting abilities otherwise only available in one location after a long quest? Sure, why not. Teleport there from anywhere at all? No problem! And after a while it stops being cool and just feels like I'm cheating. I'll take the Hearthfire homes, than you very much. 1
Tlam99 Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 I got 5 installed. Tested dozens. First choice this one. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/16267?tab=posts
CaptainJ03 Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 If you want small, creative homes, try Lillehus (okay, it's called tiny shack on Nexus) and every other home by Elianora. Ingame I'm using one that I've made myself...

Count Chocula Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 (edited) BBLS. It has pretty much everything, including cheats if that's your gig. And Ronin79's pet peeves that I agree with: Spoiler Not that modders will pay attention to this, but here are some of the things I HATE about most player homes on the Nexus: Too big. I don't want to go through fifty fucking load doors just to get around the house! Too much clutter in too small a space. Bad lighting. 99.9% of "Castle" mods. See #1. They're too fucking big! Bad navmesh. If my followers can't go inside/walk around inside, then what good is it? Bards.. Tiny houses/towers that have unbelievably enormous interiors. "Too big" and "non-static clutter" are two that I particularly don't like. Which is ironic because BBLS is full of non-static clutter. It's also very big, but the used portion (the basement with all the crafting) is pretty small. Regarding smelters and blacksmith stations inside the home and that being "unrealistic," there's plenty of non-realism in the game and I don't want to have to have my character trek outside to craft. I don't play Skyrim for it to be some kind of sim, I play it for quests and adventure. Edited November 14, 2024 by chocula 1
travelmedic Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 Things I want in a player home - relatively nice - I'm Thane of Everywhere, Listener, Guildmaster, Archmage and a man of means, I don't need to be living in a shack - master bedroom for me and a spouse, and plenty of other beds for followers (I tend to like a lot of custom voice followers in my games) - crafting somewhere on the property - bathing or small pool with autostrip feature - maybe some kids beds, sometimes I adopt, sometimes not - a couple of mannequins and weapon racks - maybe 1 or 2 servants who are also vendors - idle markers for NPCs Things I don't want - too much clutter and too cramped - too many static items, I like to be able to interact - a display for everything - I do use LOTD in spite of the work to set it up, so don't need this - too much empty space - a bunch of guards or NPCs with no real function Yes, I know that many items on my lists contradict what others have posted, but it's my game and that's what I like Places I've used and liked in the past: Breezehome Fully Upgradable - LE only I believe Elysium Estate - I actually like the older versions of this better than the latest Riverwood Keep - it's quite large, but well laid out and has lots of room for followers, but don't need all the displays Lakeview Manor As It Should Be and Lakeview Manor Avant Garden EX - inside/outside renovations that work well together, just wish there were a few more follower spaces Bathing Beauties Luxury Suite - good for parking followers Underground Bathhouse - I actually like the layout of this place a lot more than BBLS, but it's sometimes a little buggy Castle Valdmire - a little cheaty - have to do a short quest to kill some vampires to get it, but then get a good sword and lots of gold inside once you have access, but then find myself either rarely returning, or using it as a base for Paradise Halls since it's quite spacious

Raven 54 Posted November 14, 2024 Author Posted November 14, 2024 I killed all my Player Homes last new game I made, went this route for SE. https://www.loverslab.com/topic/127516-vivis-beastess-lairs-se/ LE. https://www.loverslab.com/files/file/1503-beastess-lairs/ at least there are no beds to get trapped in... Or Kids begging, or too much crap in my way... 2
adoiad Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 I don't use modded player homes in skyrim typically. Most are too big and gaudy for my liking. Many are big manors or castles with too many displays and beds and a bunch of empty space. I'm more a fan of small to mid-sized homes with plenty of functionality and little to no wasted space. I don't really know of any like that for skyrim but my ideal player home, I found for fallout: new vegas NV Novac Apartment at Fallout New Vegas - mods and community. this player home is very tasteful to me and feels cozy and has things like a functional shower, toaster, jukebox and some other additions. It's by far my favorite modded player home I've found, I wish I knew of one just like it for skyrim. 1

But the inside looks pretty cozy, I might try that one out. I installed this one https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/122233 a while back, the exterior and location is right up my alley but the interior was very lacking from what I remember, not much functionality aside from standard crafting and very plain.
