I think you are missing the point or you are intentionally not seeing the long con in the scam. Let me break it down for you and others who may or may not know about this type of scam. Kamie's mod was "free" too, but the goal was ALWAYS to make a patreon. She tried to set up a patreon, unbeknownst even to the artists and modelers involved at the time, like 3 times. Then she tried kofi for "donations". all of this before the first model was even finished. The way this particular scam works is you make a "bait" post on a modding forum such as this one with hopes and promises of something very good, and also promises that the mod will be free. Indeed, it will be free, for a time, then future content will be locked behind a paywall once a significant amount of patreons are subbed. That way no one will really complain or care. The free content released will be nothing like what was described in the OP of said modding forum. infact it would be low quality, low effort, copy pasted slop.  And the excuse would be "these are just early stages of the mod, better versions are coming in future update and we will revisit older models for a rework!" Coomers will be content and continue to donate. Then comes the paywall with some shitty excuse to why the mod is now locked to patreon subs only. Coomers will once again eat up the excuse because "whats $5 a month?". Content will start to slow to a crawl and another excuse will be given such as "we do not want to rush this mod, content will be ready when its ready". Now you may get a half assed model once a month while patreon is being milked. at this point we have reached a point of no return. no matter how slow or how low quality the content is it will still be enough to keep just enough suckers paying your bills for next to no work whatsoever. 

 

Thats how the con works. Luckily this never came to fruition for Kamie because the original team were smart enough to see this before hand and walked out, and hopefully it never comes to fruition for you either. 

 

Im not the only one saying or who thinks this either, look at your own thread. Many people think its a scam or just bullshit. Anyway, im done with the topic. Anyone that want to buy into this bull shit thread feel free to do so. Ill be going to modders that actually have content released.

Alright let's not do the Patreon or Subscribestar at all at any point in this project. You can't say scam then. However, the drawback is that this mod won't be feasible for more Pals, since Zetter's already generous price will stack bills that me and Zeta can't just pay out as we please. 

 

Although doing concept art is possible since I mean, you know. Models and other parts cannot continue, as that becomes too costly too quickly with each pal having 4 model variations. 

 

Of course that would change if there's a 3D modeler and animator willing to work with us. Then we could work with no donations and produce content.

I don't agree with the tone but I do the sentiment. Regardless your account is made fresh after pod died. And if it's walks and talks like a duck....I'm willing to wait and see how it unfolds tho. I will say tho after what I heard about kamie and seeing how this popped right after pod suddenly was nuked. Its....I mean....the timing kinda makes it obvious. If not obvious then at the very least incredibly sus. We shall see how it unfolds tho. I do hope a mod comes from this and no drama and infighting. We have seen enough of this already

Ok am I missing something? Couldn't "a 3D modeler and animator" just make a mod and release it for free without you being a part of the process? You're claiming you need to pay out of pocket 1 model at a time, is that not just commissioning someone? Why wouldn't I just commission someone to make whatever model I want, rather than giving you my money so that you can give it to someone else and ask them to make a model for you? Are you serious?

Also with little knowledge of blender, several tutorials, and 3 days of casual progress I was able to make a mod that I personally am happy with, I now have the ability to make more mods for free by myself. With some polish and time I would be happy to upload anything for free. Does your computer not run blender? Do you think yourself incapable of trying another art form?

I'm not suggesting you need to learn how to 3D model or that you wouldn't be useful in some way. What you're asking for, however, is for someone with experience to show up to your project and work for free? Or you require donations to fund your "project" of commissioning models 1 by 1 and then reposting them as your own?

I made my account around the time PoD died and I’m not Kamie. Some of us made LL accounts because PoD was a dumpster fire, and wanted to have some place to come together and talk about actually making something. 
There was PalHub, too, but as someone who was in both servers, that place was a cesspool. All it was was empty promises with nothing to show for it, and a collection of people obsessed with shitting on PoD and chronicling it’s downfall, including the server owner. I don’t know about you, but I wasn’t gonna stay in a server with a bunch of drama-obsessed children. 
 

That being said, I have high hopes for this mod. I’m not gonna do the Patreon or whatever, purely because I’m already broke, so the money stuff literally doesn’t affect me. Still, I look forward to a release.

The theoretical you describe isn't a scam. That's just getting paid for your work. But spun with a harsh jaded attitude at the fact that people would dare want to make money for their work.

 

A scam would involve using assets in your mod that you or your team didn't make, never delivering on promises that people specifically paid you for, or other illegal or dishonest methods.

 

That said: maybe wait until there's a problem until you start complaining about a problem. Obviously we've all considered the possibility that this is Kamie; the timing of a new mod team thread stood out to everyone. But most of us are not dramatically screaming at clouds in the sky because of blatant similarities. Because when you get right down to it it's completely possible that this really is just a new guy trying to make a team and everyone screaming at an innocent would just be shitty of us to do if it happened to be so. Especially considering the worst they've done is get hopes up.

 

However an idea comes to me.

@Salamansky If you agree to it, would you mind if I called a mod in here to publicly verify you haven't got alt accounts? If you agree, and the mod agrees, then the result will likely settle this controversy one way or another.

That said it's completely your right to privacy. Declining wouldn't be an admittance to guilt. I'm not even sure if TOS would allow the mod to do this.

Guilty as charged, I'd noticed PoD was taken down and reuploaded under different names and creators like four times in the course of just two days, and I was mildly desperate to find out what the hell was going on, and the search for knowledge brought me here.

I wrote a lengthy response to what Ballistixz said but, I just want to condense it down to ask is $20 to $40 a month for 5-10 people really worth said elaborate con? I think this is possibly (not saying that I believe it myself) either a problem of greed or worse a conspiracy to sow distrust in the modding scene so we can't have nice things. If what he says comes to pass, I think not just the admins but we all probably need to start a viral discussion for some sort of standard of etiquette. This obviously can't go on more than two times. Any old guys around? How common could this possibly be??

Sure, what do I need to do? Provided this is a viable path, I've not used this site before but if a mod can verify I have no alts then I'm all for it.

 

Also I'm pretty sure the last thing that people think about is if they are acting shitty on the internet. Trolls on the internet exist purely because of the false sense of anonymity. That being said I am appreciative of the non-shitty people.

Thats exactly what he is doing. he is most likely commissioning these artists/modelers and then profiting the rest off monthly subs from patreon. And yes, you can just commission these guys yourself. That in and of itself is not the issue tho and is actually a viable way to make mods, the issue is bigger at large and ive already went into detail about it. But hey, feel free to prove me wrong. I gave Kamie that chance in the last thread i made here, and she only proved me to be right by deleting the discord. 

 

Personally tho, im waiting for the guys who LEFT kamie to release something. They are not making a spectacle of it by posting fluff bait on LL or making a discord/patreon too early. They are lying and lurking in wait to release something, and those types of private environments produce the best results.

the world is full of different types of people that like to do things in different ways.

It's not just about efficiency. Sometimes what the creator gets out of it is the social interaction with the community.

 

As it stands right now though we've verified as much as we possibly can that it isn't Kamie. So why don't start fresh and just treat them as a normal person?

Honestly right now, I've seen the most content released by individuals not groups, and that's mostly because they avoid the bureaucracy of being involved in a group. If there are a few other people with similar vision of what they want to do, by all means work together - but as soon as you start filling middle-manager positions that don't actually produce content but want equal say in where the project goes, you can get issues.

Odds are this team is in it for the social aspect and to be a part of a team because that's just what they want to do. I believe it's their more entertaining option.

This exactly, we're a team because we want to be, we feed off each others ideas and come up with better results because we work together, we all have more time to focus on different aspects of the design and come together to make something unique. We have spent hours in voice call, screen sharing to brainstorm, throw ideas back and forth, this is how we came up with the Anubis concept. Yes, solo moders can do just as amazing work, but this is how we work and we enjoy the company of our fellow team members.

The two threads are night and day. They are making the same mod (and lets be honest, there was only ONE group of people making a anthro mod before this and 90% of those people split and created their own mod) One thread has models and 10 different concept arts made. This thread has 1 concept art shown despite having a team of 4 concept artists. Thats all i really need to say.

Despite him trying to push it into one this isn't a competition. Everyone is making mods because they want to. There are no toxic demands. That said I can't blame you if you want to take a break from it after his drama though. The only thing I can compliment him for is the ability to take the fun out of doing things for others.

 

But obnoxious as he was he was just one person. Anything you make would be appreciated by many more.

 

For what it's worth I described the long of it to the mods. So if he comes back to cause drama again they may take notice.
