In a simple answer, I do it cause I can and because I want to. 

To extend an answer, I do it because people make them. If people didn't make skimpy armors, I wouldn't use em. I'm not good with gimp and all those extra programs needed to make armors and shit. I just download and make personal .esp edits to them. If I could make armors, I'd probably do less skimpy than I actually use. But in the end, all it comes down to is: If you don't like them, either make your own armors or don't use the ones available. In the case that you decide to make full covering armor, I'll be here deciding whether or not I like it enough to use it. If you don't, my chara running around in the near nude has no problems continuing to do so.

To be honest, all the answers will be the same. Each to his own. I for one like skimpy armor if they look appealing. No, no that way. But they way they actually look on the character.

Besides, Celtic women didn't go into a fight naked. And women usually just don't run through the world killing people and exploring dungeons. There is nothing "medieval" or "immersive" about that.

 

In this case, I say screw it. I find most armour, robes and clothing in Skyrim hideously ugly, and the modded schoolgirl / porn actress stuff does nothing for me. So my current char runs around naked. Since she has a werewolf and a permanent fire atronach as followers and shifts to werewolf in a fight herself, it works quite well. Needless to say, I don't use Frostfall. The white stuff in the North doesn't bother her one bit. She's a pixel woman and doesn't know cold.

 

So why skimpy? Cause sexy.

 

Granted yes, this is Skyrim so my point is mute .. but just for the eye opener and historic correctness, as regardless most fantasy games have a base of historical events or influences, in this case it would be more Norse for relevance but as to the Celt women not going into battle naked. During the Hallstatt era, pre La Tene era (around 450 BCE). Celtic women and men we equals in all aspects of warriors, merchants, rulers, etc.. and both gender shunned armor during wars and battles choosing to fight naked and adorned with warpaint, piercings, and other tribal or ritualistic body adornments. During such time they were noted to have legendary bravery.

I see plenty of people here have a skewed definition of immersion.   Just to clarify.. immersive does not mean believable or realistic.  Immersion is defined as being drawn into, engrossed, or engaged in content.   The ability to throw yourself into an environment outside of reality is what it means to be immersed in it.  Just had to get that off my chest =p

 

Sure suspension of disbelief plays a part in it. But if you can put yourself into the mind of an avatar in a game.. or a character in a book.. then you are engaging in an immersive environment.

 

That being said, you can continue to have your own definition of the word.  But the majority of us mean this when we are talking about it.

You are aware that it was Bethesda themselves who gave us the Forsworn 'bikini' armor, the next-to-nothing 'Ancient Nord Armor,' the tank-top hide armor, and skimpy fur armor!  And that's just the gals!

 

Then for men, Bethesda themselves gave us the shirtless fur armors, shirtless hide armors, and sleeve-less everything else!

 

So, in the 'arctic' of Tamriel, Bethesda gave us shirtless armors for men, and bikini armors for the gals.  It was modders who added in cloaks, and artctic looking armors, and Frostfall, not Bethesda.  Try finding a cloak or a hood in the vanilla game Pro-Tip: They don't exist!  You need mods and Frostfall for that.

 

Bethesda got the ball rolling on Skimpy armors, not modders.  So let me ask you why are you on LoversLab of all places talking about Skimpy armors to the modders who make them?  Why not complain to Bethesda for not giving us arctic/warm armor in Skyrim of all places?

Anyways, on topic... Nothing is wrong with skimpy armor. I personally don't like it since it breaks immersion for me in cold ass Skyrim, but i acknowledge that not everyone is like me. I shoot for sexy yet not slutty.  It is like the UNP vs CBBE debate, there is no winner, only personal preference.

In turth, I wish Skyrim was a different game, I wish it was a game set in the real world with real history. But since there is no single player rpg with mods out there like that I'm stuck in Skyrim. I like to download armors that are sexy, but not skimpy with only a thong and a top that's so skimpy it might as well not even be there.

 

It's one of the only downsides to using CBBE, all the armors are shitty unrealistic crap. There's only a few armors that are actually decent, where as with UNP there is tons of options. But I LIke bodyslide, I like being able to create the body the way I like it, so I'm stuck with CBBE. Yes I'm aware that UNP has a bodyslide mod, but it's not the same.

On topic: I got the armors and the mods because I want to, that's why. Anything I put into the game I can weave my character's experiences around it, exercising my imagination - because that's what the game promotes to me.

So well heroines a mostly have skimpy outfits not only in games also in comics or films , look at catsuits they can be seen in some films ,skimpy outfits too.

 

So why not in skyrim and oblivion ? it may lore breaking but it isnt the clothing hasnt something to do with the story , the dragonborn is customsized in all games , all dragonborns looking different so why not different outfits ? like skimpy or nothing to see here.

 

And if you dont want skimpy outfits then play a male character they havent so many skimpy armors ... well If you not sos addicted.

 

And again every user on this forum can made his character like he or she want, but to explain it a bit further there are mods they can hide that skimpy things, and on the other hand there are mods that can only enhance your skyrim adventure with big new quests or maps. So the clothes section of nexus and loverslab is 80% skimpy.

Funny thing is, arrow tips were developed that would pierce the thickest of plate armor pretty much making it useless, most battles began at long range first. But what does any of that have to do with realism and immersion and lore.

This is becoming hard to compare.

 

While in ancient battles, the missile units would stay 100-200 meters to fire their missiles ( less if javelin), Skyrim's archers get really close to shoot them.

 

The longer the range, the less penetration the arrow will have. Since in  Skyrim, is usually close, the arrow still retain a high speed, only decreasing by a little.

 

So unless, the bow is fired close to the target, I don't think it would heavily penetrate the armor. ''Pretty much making it useless'', it wouldn't be useless, it would still save your live but potentially leaving you disabled.
