Someone explain "Skimpy Armors" to me.

Personally, I find skimpy armors to be completely lore-friendly. With the goddess Dibella promoting the woman's form as a form of natural beauty and art, women would naturally show off their bodies more as a sort of norm. Similarly the Greeks had Aphrodite - the goddess of beauty and in effect wore much more revealing clothes - even to the point of having nothing more than a see-through veil over their breasts, legs and even the hips. My only gripe with skimpy clothing in Skyrim is the cold. Greece is relatively warm year-round thanks to the warmed and contained waters of the Mediterranean and thus can afford to have rather skimpy or even a lack of clothing. So with Dibella having the exact same religious effect, she would promote women to wear more skimpy clothing or even have a lack of clothing, which would be expected in warmer climates like Cyrodiil, Elsweyr, Black Marsh, Summerset Isles, etc. Skimpy clothing would even be expected in the warmer areas of Skyrim like the Rift, Falkreath Hold and the southern areas of Markarth Hold. It's just the fact that armors don't vary enough in the game that climates become a problem for fashion.

EDIT:

@Mumin

You just got me addicted to those. How does that make you feel?

There was another thread that some dude asked for why "Sex" mods? 90% of the guys who answered said it was for immersion. Understandable

But, now I need someone to explain ME, why people are obscessed with those skimpy stuff. It is extremely lore breaking seeing women walk around semi naked, even more, because the armors were meant to protect not to be cute.

How the hell does my choice in armor in my game break the lore in your game?

In the real world armor always provides a tradeoff between protection vs mobility and stamina. The more protection it provides the slower you are and the faster you will become too weak to defend yourself. Fighting naked has a long and strong tradition because it is very effective in a real battle, even simple light clothing gives an opponent something to grab onto and restrict your movement with.

Why have you not posted a single reply yet?

Bad troll is bad. If you actually read the entire thread, you will see that I already posted to 3-5 replies already.

How can you say it breaks immersion? This is not earth. Maybe these cultures are not as sexually repressed as in our world. Maybe they were not taught from birth that the body is evil.

Going to war semi naked, will end up with you being killed.

"Maybe these cultures are not as sexually repressed as in our world". If you walk around naked in a town, local npcs will complain about you being naked. Some comments they say: "Put some clothes on", "Naked, Naked, Naked", and others too I don't remember.

So, by the logic of their comments, I think is close to our world, a bit toned down perhaps since it's a medieval time

I''m stuck trying to comprehend the question. I'll come back when i will.

Doubt it will happen any time soon though.

there you can see that you have no idea!

a medieval crossbow pierced a two centimeter steelplate!

ergo with two centimeters steel on body falls you it very hard to move you, you were a light target.

if you were to wear a plate armor and I have a few fabric scraps, I would run three times around you "before you can do a rotation.

Regardless of popular belief, skimpy armors within this time-framed style is lore. Granted the various styles are not very lore friendly, but skimpy and nudity was actually used by celts and some other civilizations in conjunction with war paints when going into battle.

The same can be said about lore friendliness when it comes to full plate styled armor too. They were way to heavy, hot, and bulky to actually have been any use in true battles and were primarily used for ceremonies and other activities where hampered movement didn't really matter, like jousting.

But in games, eye-candy, styles, fantasy, .. many reasons and within the world their fantasy portrays, it is lore friendly. Regardless to true lore, when it comes to actual games and gamers, actual lore from devs is always a guideline that is more often than not, pieced apart by those playing the game into their own fantasy design. That's what makes the immersion more realistic to the gamer, is that they combine the lore from the dev's with their own fantasy style and feel part of it as it now becomes a part of their fantasy world.

At least that's how I have always viewed lore to be within all the gaming styles I've done. PNP, CG, Console, etc..

^ excellent response, and spot on.

i agree with theh comment made earlier that the OP is a troll, and we are all idiots for posting here...  myself included.  im still gonna bite (again).

personal preference is a HUGE factor in gaming.  people play skyrim because they can tailor the game their tastes.  i prefer to see a little skin.  ok, maybe a lot of skin, on both male and female characters and NPCs.

the OP has no business making threads of this nature on this site...  if you google "skyrim armor lore-friendly realistic" LL doesnt get a mention until page 3 (only because someone here was looking for lore-freindly but not necessarily realistic armor).  i made it to page 7 without any further mentions of LL.  my point being you dont find lovers lab by accident.  you gotta be looking for it.  which means you WANT the skimpy or sexy armors and sex mods.

lastly...  LL is extremely open minded. im not into bestiality or pedo stuff but the fact that people can entertain their fantasies here and in a game (which does not hurt any real people) is just fantastic.

its a game, its personal preference.  learn some tolerance, and grow the fuck up, or GTFO.

Why do people like skimpy armor? Why does bob like baseball more than football.. Why does Steve like pizza more than hotdogs? Why the fuck is this an issue -- It's not even a question of immersion, even if there were no immersion differences between skimpy and not skimpy, it's still not even the point of this main argument. The sad truth behind the entire reason for a question like this to even exist is for nothing more than being able to rile up people in HOPES of them getting into an argument for your own personal amusement. It doesn't matter what YOU like, or what YOU find to be suitable for YOUR gameplay, because when it comes down to it this isn't YOUR game. People like them for whatever reason that they have on their own and you have absolutely not right to question it one way or another. As long as it's not hurting anyone in the process(and it's not) then what happens in one person's game that is isolated strictly to that person and that person only should not concern YOU in any way whatsoever. The question itself is ignorant, and nothing but kindling to an inevitable argument over something that we should be unified by in the first place -- a community that supports the concept of the freedom of expression through sexual desire(not always but it is a huge part of it.) what we enjoy, and the creative process of getting from a to b whilst working in tandem to create these 'Skimpy, Lore-friendly, immersive, lore-breaking, slutty, dirty' and whatever other name you want for these armors. Next time instead of asking why someone likes what they enjoy why don't you take a moment to ask yourself why you aren't open minded about the ideals that make that person enjoy what they enjoy.

"100 kilograms". Do you have any idea of what you are talking about? The aspis, that was a hoplite shield, weighted on average 40 pounds, that is 18 kg.

Since this a medieval game, it will weigh even less than that

Going to war will get you killed most likely anyway, no matter what you wear or don't wear, for that matter. Heavy armor protects better against ranged attacks, to a certain extent. But it's also a lot heavier than light armor and using heavy armor without riding a horse is not a very smart thing to do because you'll get exhausted pretty quick running around and fighting. Heavy armor also obstructs your vision if you're wearing a full helmet and hinders your mobility, so a fully armored knight would have a bad time fighting a 1v1 with a naked dude who knows what he is doing. But Skyrim is not real life.

Skyrim doesn't take into account where you are hit or what injuries would occur if you get hit. Armor doesn't have weak spots. It's just health points and armor rating. You survive a crossbow bolt to the head if you just have enough armor and health. Health points, armor and healing potions break the immersion more than any skimpy armor ever could. Just think about it, you can fight just as effective with 1 hp, 20 arrows stuck in your face and several injuries that would have been fatal IRL as someone who is rested and not injured at all. Why are there even sick and wounded people in Skyrim? There are potions of curing diseases and healing wounds everywhere.

It all comes down to what you like to see and what you don't like to see. If you like looking at virtual butts and breasts than skimpy armor is for you. If you think that skimpy armor breaks your immersion because it doesn't protect you in battle than skimpy armors are not for you. However, keep in mind that there are indeed fantasy worlds were everyone is wearing skimpy or at least non-protective armor. Bethesda's take on how Skyrim should look like is not the only valid one, if you want you can alter Skyrim to be more like the typical dark, gritty, gory and sexy fantasy that was popular before Tolkien came with his clean, bright and shiny vision of the fantasy genre.

tl;dr: Me like butts and boobs and skimpy armor doesn't break my immersion if it fits into the grand scheme of things.

I have two arguments against your argument.

1")"So a fully armored knight would have a bad time fighting a 1vs1 with a naked dude who knows what he is doing". Not really. For example: The romans legions had heavy infantry as main fighting force. If we followed your logic about Heavy Armor, the romans would get beat every single time and they would never manage to advance north of Italy, home to the Gauls.

2) Please, don't bring game logic into play. We're talking about real logic which can be used in both, game logic can only be used in the game.,,,,,
