szokepurgy Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 (edited) I've been trying to do this for 7 hours. I know skyrim modding is hard, but I just feel exausted. I modded games before but this is insanity. How did people come up with this? I have the aniversary edition but I downgraded it with a patcher to SE. It doesn't have to be anything special, just the bare minimum so I can actually get started with my own load order and list. It can be a screenshot of your mod organizer, a list of links, just a text dump, I don't care. I just need somewheer to start my "adventure". I am desperate and I will be forever grateful. Godspeed PS: Yell at me if you need more details. My version is 1.5.97.0.8 Script extender is 2.0.20 rel 6. I use LOOT and FNIS and they are set up properly. Edited January 3, 2023 by szokepurgy
Gott sei Dank Sorry - such a list doesn't help you. You MUST learn what the individual steps look like and how they are processed This is the only way you will acquire the necessary knowledge as to why this one step has to come before the other and this is the only way you can even begin to understand why errors can occur If you're not ready for it - just don't! and please 7 hours? Only? For real? Some of us sit 7 complete working days and have not even got 1/3 of their mods up and running again with a new installation Addendum: I don't dare to ask: Do you know what a script extender is (skse) and that you need the right version of skse? And that you then have to start the game via the skse? Edited January 3, 2023 by Miauzi 1
Just Don't Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 You'd find plenty of resources and info on this if you check the forum sections dedicated to Skyrim SE in particular. 2

szokepurgy Posted January 3, 2023 Author Posted January 3, 2023 Yes I know what a script extendor is, thank you for lecturing me how dumb I am for thinking I could learn the intricate details of Skyrim pron mods in most of my free time for the day. 14 minutes ago, Just Don't said: You'd find plenty of resources and info on this if you check the forum sections dedicated to Skyrim SE in particular. Mexicola88 Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 (edited) Just download a Wabbajack modlists. You just need Nexus premium account if you don't wanna make 1000-1400 clicks manually, and have fast download speed. Masterstroke This one is less demanding than NEFARAM. NEFARAM You need really good hardware for this one! But honestly both are really hardware hungry, better check the system requirements! Both lists have SL mods, Devious Devices etc. I currently got NEFARAM installed. It's basicly just a few clicks and it works very stable. Installing a perfect selection of mods manually is so outdated, nobody has to torture themselves anymore. Just install a modlist instead, no troubleshooting for hours, just a few clicks and the fun begins. You still have to follow a few basic steps to install it, but it really is easy. KoolHndLuke Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 Modlists may be a good way to get things kick-started in a game. But if you intend to play the game for very long, you will want to change shit. For that, you will have to learn some stuff. 1

Karkhel Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 (edited) Wabbajack fucking sucks and you won't really get any help regarding them here, anything breaks (and believe me it will break with some lewd mods) and you are on your own basically. So what others told you about actually learning whats in your own modlist, why its in there, how it interacts with the rest, you gonna skip all of that and be unable to find solutions yourself and again generally people won't help much with wabbajack not out of spite, just no one is gonna install wabbajack themselves and see what could be wrong. You can look at the lists themselves and get some ideas. I kinda doubt abilities of wabbajackers lol, one of those lists SL survival as being buggy wut, is SE that different to LE ver? Not to mention you might get issues in the middle of playthrough like 20-50hrs into it, and turns out you have to start over make a different modlist because game is just borked. The setup guide lacks a lot of needed info, the most finicky lewd mods on the list are babodialogue and SLHH but they aren't even mentioned as problematic ones and you will not get full experience with OSL Aroused since it doesn't have the keywords that the mod uses, you'd have to tag every clothing manually in game (very immerssive) or use limited OSL Aroused tags in ssedit which you wouldn't know how to use, and even then you could only tag each clothing as simply sexy while mod in general tracks a lot of different types, that's the type of shit you wouldn't even know if you just slapped on wabbajack, and clearly the genius creator doesn't either or they just don't give a fuck. Should be listed somewhere that you are getting subpar experience, or you know just use the aroused redux from baka and it works with all of those sexlab mods. I never delved deep into any wabbajacks but just reading one of these is triggering me. Edited January 3, 2023 by Karkhel 1
Mexicola88 Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 There is nothing wrong with installing a Wabbajack list. If there is a problem ppl can just visit the discord of the modlist and ask for support there. You make it sound like it's a bad thing, the OP asked for a modlist and a loadorder, a Wabbajack is literally that. He even asked for screenshots to have a basic loadorder. So why not just install a Wabbajack modlist instead? Because it's too easy, too comfortable? I mean if he only wants to add one or two mods on top of that, he can try it, if something gets fucked up he can ask for advise in the discord, simple as that. 1

Wabbajack has made Skyrim modding accessible to the masses. While learning the ins-and-outs of how to mod Skyrim is still useful if you want to customize a modlist, there is NOTHING wrong with starting with Wabbajack. In fact, I think Wabbajack should be considered the de-facto starting point for new modders. 1

You're welcome. I hope you know enough now to keep learning, exploring and adding mods wisely. And I do agree Wabbajack can help a little. I think there's this one list that is a very minimal set of bugfixes and foundational mods. That's helpful, I guess? But you still need to know what you're doing when installing mods, checking for requirements, confirming things are compatible and so on. Otherwise it's very easy to broke something after installing a few mods or changing some settings. Edited January 4, 2023 by Just Don't 1

The problem with something like Wabbajack is it often creates headaches for mod authors. Example: Recently Laura's Bondage Shop was updated to version 3.40. The previous version, 3.32, was incomplete and frankly incredibly buggy for anyone using SE. The mod author and her supporters spent almost a year fixing bugs, coming up with a code base that works equally well for LE and SE, and the author used that knowledge to complete the story arc. When 3.40 was released, the author removed the previous version with the exception of non-English translations. Within hours users of the Wabbajack modpack that included Laura's Bondage Shop showed up in the forum demanding the old version be put back, because it broke the pack. They stopped when the pack maintainer posted, scolding them for bothering the author and calling the complainer a "crayon eater" (it was hilarious!) Shortly after that the pack was updated to use 3.40. However... 3.40 contained one critical bug. After investigation the author released 3.41, deleting the bugged 3.40 version. No complaints this time, it was worse. Someone took it upon themselves to find a copy of 3.40, upload it to a third-party site without the author's permission, and then post the link to it in the official support forum. The author was asleep at the time; I reported the post to LL and it was removed. My reply to the poster was too, but that's what I get for stupidly quoting the link lol Understand this entire process took less than half a day, between the initial release and the bug release. Modpacks make things quick and easy, but they also make people impatient. They don't learn how to set up and maintain their mod lists, or even understand that they can easily, manually update a mod with a quick copy/paste. All they know is "click this one thing and I'm done", and when something breaks too many refuse to be patient and either wait for the pack to be updated, or learn how to fix the problem themselves. I'm not opposed to the concept, but any such system needs to include the ability for the end user to update individual mods themselves without breaking the entire pack. And end users need to understand that they may lose the ability to play during a period of mod version turnover, instead of disrupting authors by begging for old, malfunctioning versions of a mod to be restored. 3
Mexicola88 Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 Maybe mod authors should just stop deleting older versions of their mods, and just keep them online, that would solve a lot of problems. I mean it doesn't kill anyone if there are a few outdated files still online. I mean the ppl that know what they are doing, can just ignore the older files, and only install the latest version. Lauras Bondage Shop 3.41 both LE and SE is less than 20 mb large, i don't see the problem keeping the older files online as archives. It's done the same way on Nexus, there you can also download older versions of mods. I mean in the time before Wabbajack and Nexus Collections were a thing, ppl already followed mod install guides to the letter, and these ppl would have also wanted to use older versions if the guide suggested it. The only difference is that it's an automated thing now, instead of installing it manually with a mod manager. I could understand it if mod authors delete their older files if they are huge, like a few hundread megabytes or even 1 or 2 gigabytes, but not if it's so small. The problem is that the end user doesn't inform itself, if the modlist is installable atm or not. I seen it a few times over the last 3-4 months that a mod is missing, there was a warning that it's not installable atm. There is nothing that can be done, if the end user just ignores that. Ppl that install Wabbajack modlists should just inform themselves in the respective discord of the modlist, if the list is currently installable or not BEFORE they start installing it. It's mostly just a week or something every once in a while, that a modlist can't be installed because one or two mods can't be downloaded for some reason.
Just Don't Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 8 minutes ago, Mexicola88 said: Maybe mod authors should just stop deleting older versions of their mods Nah. Mod authors shouldn't need to accommodate to third party tools. This discussion already happened and this site stance is even written in the rules. 3
Mexicola88 Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 (edited) And where can these rules be found? Is it that? I don't see anything related to deleting mods or keeping them online or anything like that. This is the only thing about mod authors: "The biggest and most important thing of this community, is that the modders come first. They are the ones who make this community worth coming to, they are the ones enabling you to even play these mods. Meaning if you don't like the way a mod is going, don't be a jerk about it, they can take the mod in whatever direction they want. Don't like it? Then make your own release and put the work in yourself. Find a bug or issue that needs to be fixed? Don't be a jerk about it and raise your concerns and feedback in a constructive manner." And it doesn't really have anything to do with what i typed about. Edited January 4, 2023 by Mexicola88
Just Don't Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 1st paragraph. Modders come first. If you don't like how a mod author handles a mod or their files in general you're free to look for alternatives or act to the extend of what permissions allows. You shouldn't pester modders to accommodate to your ideas or specific modding method. 1
Mexicola88 Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 I don't wanna be a dick or something, i just wonder why ppl delete files that are less than 20 mb large, if they don't have to. Yeah well whatever, i will never know, whatever it doesn't matter nevermind.

It's done the same way on Nexus, there you can also download older versions of mods. The author takes pride in her work and chose not to leave old, buggy versions up, with the inevitable need to either support those versions or constantly tell people they need to update. And why should she feel obligated to keep old, bad versions available just to support some modpack she never agreed to be a part of anyway? And yes, I do know that for a fact (I'm the one doing the SE conversions.) Nexus had the same argument by the way: "you can't delete anything because it might break our Collections". The result was a mass exodus of talented modders. Again, Wabbajack or Nexus Collections are not bad in theory, they lower the bar and extend the life of the game. But people using them need to know they are going to occasionally break, and they need to understand the processes needed to get the pack updated. They don't need to whine when an author decides to remove a faulty version or even remove their work. And they certainly don't need to take it upon themselves to do an end-run around the author's wishes by violating copyright and posting links to old versions on third-party sites without permission. 3
I had read the whole "Bohei" and internally only shook my head yes - that was also one of the reasons why I clearly rejected such a list here in this thread I now intentionally use mods that have been abandoned by their authors - but have not been deleted. it's ultimately my own risk and I would never recommend this to an obvious beginner if the beginner wants to learn and I can also infer this from his request text - I try to explain the first steps to him as well... ..how I proceed e.g. with a (forced) new installation step by step. but here such an approach was NOT recognizable to me
