Jotasran Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 I've been plagued by SMP/HDT invisiblity for bandits and some follower forever. I bought a new computer (i7 and 12 gb VRAM card). I've scoured various posts (mostly here) and am just coming to the conclusion that SMP giggle and skimpy Skyrim is chasing a very annoying rainbow... and is unachievable. Part of the issue may be that many posts seem to be regarding LE edition... I just don't know. But then I see a ton of physics based armors released and wonder if some people don't have these issues... or maybe they just don't mind a fading NPC. Am I missing something? Is HDT doable without fading NPCs? I'm at the giving up point and want to try one last hail Mary pass before just accepting that HDT will never be a part of Skyrim without invisible NPC bugs. I run anniversary edition.
nilead Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 Well, answer is in your post. There are alot of people who never encounter the issue. Ive not seen this bug since i transfered to SE. Cant speak about exact nature of the bug, but about it being avoidable - absolutely. I kinda though it was an artifact of old times.

I run anniversary edition. You shouldn't have any invisible anything. Your notion that the problem is SMP and not you is utterly facetious. SMP works perfectly fine on both LE and SSE. 1

Just Don't Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 You need to tweak the SMP config to fit your particular system specs. If you use a premade config file you'll get average or bad results. There are a few resources (example) to get a grasp of how to do this. Moving mods/loadorder or posting these along with your specs for others to see won't change these configs. You need to read, check your current settings, tweak and test until you're satisfied with the results.

Of course I couldn't get an invisible NPC to save my life. This problem is tough to replicate. I drives me so crazy because it comes back after I think I've solved it. A couple things. Havok fixes (suggested by Lestat, above) seems to be replaced by Display Fixes... which I already have. Description sates they are not compatable. HDT Invis fix is for an older version. I'm thinking the .dll won't work for SE/AE. That documentation that Just Don't led me to is going to take some time for me to digest. I'm not much of a coder and their is way more that I don't understand that do. I'll do my best with it though. If anyone spots weirdness with my load order, I'd appreciated a heads up. As Just Don't already alluded to, your specific settings matter a great deal, and there is no generic version that will "just work" long term, and this covers GPU bandwidth, processor speed, and in-game active body deformation range, and physical and virtual core count. The first thing that jumped out at me from the reading was that I had eFPS, which apparently unlocks the FPS limit above 60... which is apparently bad for physics. I removed that and will see if that help before mucking around with deeper things.

Removing that should have no effect whatsoever on your problem. As far as your problem goes the only time in SE that I have had that problem occur is when I was a dumbass and tried to give like 7 different followers SMP wigs and armor a few years back.

It seemed to happen outside of towns/villages in wilderness with her. If you're familiar with that mod, she kinda flops all over the place. None my NPCs have physics hair or cloaks or any such things. No SMP hair on my character either. I've also had it happen with a bandit when running Genesis (I've since gotten rid of Genesis). It didn't seem to me like a terribly lot was going on with either... but I don't place much value in my opinions in this kind of stuff. Does ENB have a negative effect on physics? I kinda seemed to gather than from some older posts.. but I may be mistaken due to not understanding much about how the programming/specs work. I run Windows 11 Professional. Video card is a EVGA GeForc RTX 3080 Ti (12 gig). Processor is Intel i7-12700. Motherboard- Gigabyte z690 UD AX DDR4. 32gb of RAM. Edited June 28, 2022 by Jotasran

I've never given out a wig to and NPC haven't had cloaks either.
