Shoutout: Authors must rethink Mod Hosting Platform decisions for convenience

Seeing only a small minority of Mod Authors hosting their files both in Nexus and here or other sites makes me wonder.

I am not exactly banned or anything from Nexus but if i could avoid using Nexus all together i definitely would. Many would actually do the same.

What i am trying say is that, if a Mod i hosted on Nexus, why can't the file be also available on a Patreon account or a Discord server or even here or other sites at the same time?

It can. It definitely can since its the Authors property.

Author will have the full support from hosting it on Nexus and also available via alternative platforms.

There is no need for the mod to be locked inside Nexus only. It doesn't violate any rules to have it available on every alternative platform.

Neither is it illegal to have it as a downloadable zip via Discord.

Many times we get pointed to Discord for support anyway. Once we do, we again have to use Nexus to get access to the files.

Its actually bad to be on Nexus and having to use an external site. Many times we like to share troubleshooting data offer our support to the mod development and its much more convenient to just be on the Discord.

I have personally never released anything due to Permissions policy. Stuff i worked with required a series of Permissions to upload a more finished version but i did contribute and helped with a few more frustrating boring procedures on Discord channels where we had active communication with the Author to help with the mod release we love to use ourselves. Beta testing etc. etc.

This is a shoutout to every Mod creator.

Have your file on Nexus. Sure.

Just make it available in your Discord too.

Make it available in alternatives platfroms too.

There's no reason not to do so.

Open up a bakery and stop living altogether too.

Answer questions 24/7 on 10 different sites/platforms too

Get stressed from all the switching between those platforms too

Just living with a mild inconvenience is to difficult for ya isn't it?

That part where I need to give people like bakafactory and clonereal access to all my assets so they can monetize it for themselves is never going happen.

Ever.

I don't know about bakery stores but uploading your file on Discord and LL to have it available outside Nexus costs, no time, no money and you are not forced to deal with support either.

Why would you not have to deal with support? Unless you deliberately just leave a message which tells people you won't answer inquiries outside of whatever you consider your primary platform.

Which is a thing you can do, sure, but by default each of those sites have places for people to ask questions. Also if you update your file, you DO need to ensure your files are updated across all platforms.

Also Discord will require you to create your own server or be a member of an existing server to host files in a stable way. Which, again, that's trivially easy, but it's not at "no cost".

There are dozens of cases like that. The worst part of it is that you never know what they have done. It might have been some small tweak over the mod of other author, or some complex quest mod, including new dungeon kits and armors.

We could have the entirety of Tamriel already mapped, if it wasn't for the existence of parlor modding and this bureaucratic permission system.

Lets just say i reworked a few things. Nothing massive. Darkend for example is now a perfect encounter with unique Bosses.

I did a few Mesh and UV fixes to many mods i use. I also used a series of Armor Mods converted them to non hdt and made some custom Weapons using their assets.

Thats all really. I am a total noob with scripting or quests.

...its also less ''Cluttered'' lol

Well sure thing is there is tons of mods on the nexus that dont offer any support anymore and left the comments active so users troubleshoot themselves. Nobody seems to mind that.
