Missynissy Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 So I recently did a fresh install of skyrim yesterday, and got all of my mods situated and all that fun stuff. But once I started a new game and did all the setup stuff in game regarding the MCM and chose my start with the alternate start mod. I exited the tavern I was in and ended up getting low frames, to the point where it was unplayable. I eventually fixed it enough to where it was playable but I can still notice its on the lower side of FPS. I messed around with my ENBlocal file a little but to no avail. I'm not using any graphic overhaul mods other then the ENBboost mod. But regardless here is my modlist. You haven't said how much of an fps drop was happening, so it is hard to say if what you are experiencing is normal. For instance, w/o ENB running, I can easily get 120+ fps (note the game engine doesn't actually run that fast), this drops to 60-90 fps with ENB in an interior environment, and if I don't do anything to lessen the ENB hit, it can easily get as low as 20fps in Whiterun's Market area. Realize that fps is related to both the graphics and the scripting engine. If the scripting engine is overtaxed with things it will tank your frame rate. Things that can make this much worse in cities: NPC overhauls using large textures and mods that add a lot of NPCs to cities. Also, side note, you have iNeed Dangerous Diseases enabled, but you don't have the Dangerous Diseases mod. You are also running many older/out of date mods, like Nude creatures.
Monoman1 Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 Npcs with bad skeletons can also be associated with huge fps drops around towns. It depends on how big the fps drop is but IME, it was a children overhaul mod. So normal npcs worked fine but as soon as children loaded it tanked my fps. Fixed the skeleton and fps++ You could try moving one of the children associated with the town to you in an interior cell and see does the fps drop or run around town and disable them and see does fps increase. But like seijin says towns are fps sinks anyway. And mods that add lots of npcs are pretty much the worst offenders after bad skeletons - more Ai procedures to be evaluated, pathfinding, and more npcs for mods to process.

With default configuration, the scripts are executed at maximum for 1.2 milliseconds and that never can affect the FPS. https://www.creationkit.com/index.php?title=INI_Settings_(Papyrus)#fUpdateBudgetMS

From your link: "increasing this value may improve script performance at the cost of reduced game framerate."

Tweaking the [Papyrus] setting is one of the most stupid thinks because, normally, not have any influence. The key is in the word may and really mean that, normally, make nothing. However most of the time the VM won't take this entire time slice and increasing the value will have no effect. Put your fUpdateBudgetMS in 800, for example, and look if have any influence. improve script performance = NO reduced game framerate = NO Then, tweaking the [Papyrus] setting is stupid.
Heroine HoneyCrotch Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 The only time I ever had fps being excessively low I had a mesh issue. I Static mesh mod conflicting with another mod I had changing juniper trees. What happens if you go into game with no mods active? minus maybe alt start(good for testing)

It is a memory management tool for want of a better term. 3. It is 'than', not 'then'. https://stepmodifications.org/wiki/SkyrimLE:2.10.0 https://www.loverslab.com/blogs/entry/7521-conglomerate-01-installing-skyrim-stability-fixes-tools/

Grey Cloud Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 Whatever it is, it is contagious. Just started a new game with the Necromancer's ASLAL start. I'm running around Blackreach without any problems when suddenly my FPS nose-dives. These two shots are taken from virtually the same spot, just looking in opposite directions. Facing north, 7.0 FPS. Facing south, 60.1 FPS It wasn't just that spot and I can't figure out what is different in the places where it happens. Blackreach isn't a place I go to normally but in my last game I was using SL Parasites and ran around here without any problems.

In that one example something fairly plain would be that theres a wall in front of your face in the one screen and the other one does not. There might be something in the background that isnt being animated/rendered while looking away from it. Is the only thing you changed between the 2 playthroughs taking out SL Parasites? ==== About the Papyrus thing; Remember that the Creation Kit Website is written primarily with SFW mods in mind and barely ever goes into enough detail to cover more complex questions By nature SFW mods are a lot (and I mean A LOT) less complicated than NSFW mods (not talking about Frameworks, Bugfixes (other than the Unofficial patch) and the like here), using less pollings and significantly weaker scripts. Some mods here easily take up more resources from Papyrus than an entire SFW modsetup does. I remember my Default Profile having 70~90 FPS on average, a few days ago I went on my NSFW Profile which has an technically weaker mod setup than my SFW profile (graphic wise) but the amount of Papyrus Load some rather poorly coded NSFW mods here did still gut my FPS down to 30~50 Increasing that ini setting can make sense but only if you are 100% certain that its not the graphics but Papyrus causing issues, and your PC can still handle the graphics if you allow to shift more resource into papyrus - most of the time this isnt recommended as its usually the other way around and the effect isnt really notable. Its more likely to backlash onto you than anything else, so just dont touch it

In the top image, the cave icon on the radar is Cave Club Deep from HydraSlavegirls. When I went back in the game I did some stuff in Blackreach but got pissed off with the lag so I made my way to the 'cave' (I couldn't remember what it was). I had to scramble around that rock area as the cave entrance is actually just a trapdoor in the ground. There was no lag or FPS drop. I changed countless mods during my last playthrough as I always do. I've chopped and changed some more between ending that game and starting this one. I'll try and remember to go back to Blackreach later in this game.
Grey Cloud Posted June 4, 2021 Posted June 4, 2021 Well I've fixed my problem. Before starting the new game I spent a couple hours copying 21 edited follower esps back into their 7zip archives. On a couple of occasions instead of clicking and dragging I double-clicked and fired up the CK. The CK always puts an enblocal.ini and an enbseries.ini in the folder where the file is. After finishing with the copying of the esps I checked and removed the two enb inis. Late last night I was in the Skyrim folder and for some reason I noticed that my enblocal.ini date stamp didn't look right. I opened it up and it wasn't my ini. For starters it didn't have any figure in VideoMemorySizeMb. I checked the enbseries ii and that wasn't mine either. Swapped the rogue inis for mine (always keep backups ?), fired up the game in Blackreach and everything was hunky-dory. 55-60 FPS N,S,E and W, looking up or down, walking running swimming. The thing I don't understand is why my inis were changed - there are no esps in the Skyrim folder. I'm also amazed that the game ran at all with 300 mods plus enb and no VideoMemorySizeMb.
