Should it slither on land or move through land like the horker? I think a youtube link or reference would help the animators of what you guys have in mind.

I definitely think this will help reduce the workload for the animator to work with. What about in Combat? Combat idles and movement are probably doable for 1h but what about the movement do you have in mind for 2h wielders?
firepower02 Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 For combat, we make spell casting, and staff (trident) animations first. For the combat idle, the mermaid sits on her butt, the same for the crossed arms idle. The regular idle she lies on her stomach with hand on her chin, we already have this idle animation, but it has problems if the mermaid is on a diagonal surface, she does not slant accordingly. On another note, we would make the mermaid change hair color when she transforms.

Iirc HDT heels addresses this issue.Btw, how is the mermaid mesh skinned in your rig? Does it use the thigh and leg bones or does it use the tail bones?For the animation, do you want to focus on aesthetics or functionality? The way I see it, the mermaid's movements in land will not be graceful at all because of slow and careful movements to accomodate smoother transitions.I am actually interested in helping with the animations, although I have no experience with modding skyrim animation since I'm more into armor modeling. I think this will be a good learning experience. EDIT: I definitely think a new Mermaid thread should be started since the OP has never been updated. That way, this mod could get some organization as well as easily highlight and summarize the things you need. And not many newcomers will actually read a 52-page thread for mermaids without any notifications of progress in the first post. I know I wouldn't.
firepower02 Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 The mermaid mesh is weighted to the leg bone. If it is weighted to the tail bone I think it would be more flexible. We had a version weighted to the tail bone but parts of the legs show through. Do you know how to weight paint? I can send you the mermaid and merman meshes we have, and you decide where it's best weight painted Please do, a new mermaid thread would be really nice.

I think its best you start the new Mermaid thread, I'm seldom online in LL, and I really don't have a firm grasp of the type of mermaid you're aiming for. also tbh, I thought you were heading the project after the OP. Anyway I'd be happy to offer my insights and contributions as I can.

Has there been any textures made for the fins and tails? (I hope so, because I'm really bad with texturing) I might have to clean up and refine the mesh for the tail to smoothen the seams, reduce mesh gaps if any, and remove redundant faces, before I experiment on animating. I can get OCD sometimes

The mesh creator told me to download xpmse skeleton for the female to work. Has there been any textures made for the fins and tails? I hope you know recolor, and making parts of the tailfin invisible so it can be made into different tail shapes.

KikiDelivery Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 I've decided to recreate the mermaid tail from scratch, since I'm having problems weightpainting the original ones with the tail bones I'm liking the progress so far, the mermaid tail seems more flexible when using the tail bones. The mesh I'm working on right now is still lacking in detail, I'll do that once I finish up with skinning process. btw I'm using the XPMSE skeleton, and currently using CBBE (I won't be converting it to other body replacers, but I'm hoping I can refine the mermaid tail to be easily adaptable to other replacers like UNP/7B/ADEC/etc.) Don't mind the clunky textures, those are just placeholders, I hope to adapt the textures of the original to this new mesh I'm working on.

Since I'm no good at texturing we might propably need someone who's good at texturing skin as well, to add thee fishscale effects around the hips, to create a seamless body, its up to you guys.

And major drawback, Kiki said she won't be able to make animations since the thing she uses for animation is no longer free. She will also revert to legbone since tail bone gave her problems.

I ran into problems with the tail animation cause apparently it's bound to the behavior file and ignored everything I did. So I don't know if anything we do with the tail bones will even work unless someone cracks the tail behavior that makes Khajit tails wave idiotically even after death, and does a moronic up/down motion for Argonian tails when it should be a crocodily/snaky movement. But well - send me the meshes and I'll see what I can do. I keep getting back here anyway. ^^
