[WIP]Mermaids

Okay, so maybe they have some sort of bones in their tailes. But I still dont think its realistic that they're crawling, like they have knees on land. The tail obviously doesnt have any knees.

 

I ment more like how actual fish move when they're on land. Maybe like this one:

Mermaid fins are horizontal so you wouldnt expect them to be able to bend their tail sideways like that, but i get thepoint i think.

 

It would still probably be a lot of work, you would have to give them an entirely new wire skeleton. The way it is right now it could be animated with the normal humanoid skeleton, the tail is simply mapped to one leg, which makes animation much easier. Making a fully bendable tail is probably going to be a lot harder.

sounds like he's following the mermaid lore, but keeping it realistic, not too much to ask, wouldn't expect it any different really i'd say if you can't follow some method of realistic fish movement on land, there shouldn't be a tail on land, kind of like the movie "splash" the mermaid only had her tail in water

Hmmm, okay changing the subject a bit away from the animation:

 

what if, to get both sides. What if she is a fulltime mermaid, but get some quest-thingy  that gives her a power to turn into a human (Or it can just be some power she was born with) . so that she can both have legs and have a tail on land .I think that sounds reasonable. That way everyone can get their way :)

 

 

Back to the animation thing... Yeah, I know it would take alot of work to animate the tail the realistic way I had in mind, but these guys really gave alot of work into this mod, and I thought maybe it would be something they could handle. But hey, however this mod turns out, im just happy we get mermaids :D

Well as far as i know there is going to be a version of the mod where you just get legs on land, but the guys wanted an alternate version where you keep the tail on land so you keep the mermaid feel throughout the 99% of the game that you spend on land.

Yes, I'm back. Guess what? Three weeks ago my PC imploded and I lost EVERYTHING. Including all the stuff I had made for this mod. Does anyone still have the Lakerise worldspace so I can download it?

as i have said before it makes more and more sense to male the tail to the tail bone that all npcs have, the cloaks of skyrim mod uses the tail slot AFIK which is why when a beast race wears a clak the tail vanishes

Yes, I'm back. Guess what? Three weeks ago my PC imploded and I lost EVERYTHING. Including all the stuff I had made for this mod. Does anyone still have the Lakerise worldspace so I can download it?

I know it doesn't look right if a mermaid can only bend its tail backwards, (it would only look like she has her legs fused and hidden under a tail suit. Real mermaids can bend their tails forward.) But due to lack of resources, the crawl animation is the closest animation we have for mermaids on land.

 

Yes, I know that. But I think my idea seems like maybe a little less work? I dont know, maybe the scripting of a new power is like as exhausting as a new version of the mermaid/race. 

If it's something like a power where the mermaid can have a tail when equipping a necklace, chanting a spell, and when in water, then no, it is not exhausting, it is very simple to do. We're just holding it off until we get land animations, because we don't want mermaids crawling on land, and suddenly standing up on their tail when attacking, it looks too weird to handle.

a) move house

b ) try to restore some of what I've lost in the crash (believe me, it's HORRIBLE)

c) work on getting moneys

d) ignore the mermaid mesh for now

e) try my hand on a few more animations which won't work due to 3ds Max being a pain in the ass, so

f) hope someone else can turn them into Skyrim-useable stuff.

 

 

Btw, if we use the tail texture for the mermaid's human legs and make a smooth mesh transition from tail to legs and feet, we can get her to walk normally on land but still look exotic enough. Also, I'd like her to have Newmiller's Glass Robe as clothing or armour.

You mean like in human form she will have scales on her legs? Well, that's completely up to you. What do you mean by smooth mesh transistion? The glass robe looks mermaidy enough!

Honestly, you can dress up your mermaid in human form in any way you please, since she is technically a nord/breton/imperial race, who only have the ability to get a tail in water.

Hey I'd support it's always fun to have new enemies and races and also I hope for Nagas

I think there already is a naga race mod. I saw it in one of MMOxReview's videos, but he didn't leave any links regarding it. I looked it up and couldn't find it that way either.

If someone can make an animation which doesn't render the mermaid absolutely useless and ridiculous on land, go ahead. I'll be concentrating on getting a better swim animation first cause the old one sucks.
