Asariphile Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 I don't know how many of you even know about the Oculus Rift, but I thought I should at least show it to you all because of how exciting it is to me, and what it could bring to gaming and modding as well. Here are some links that you should look at http://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/ http://www.mtbs3d.com/ and some pictures... [spoiler=The design for the consumer version] [spoiler=The Devkit] [spoiler=And looking inside] Now I mainly just want to know what you guys think of the future of gaming and adult gaming, and if any modders on this site were ever planning on using something like the Rift to make their adult mods more immersive. If I don't have to pay a fortune for it im down, ive been hearing more and more about it as the months roll on. I am intrigued by the possibilities but cautious about getting my hopes up. VR has been tried before, and its never been done well. This looks like it can break the mold but I'll have to wait and see Am I the only one who doesn't find horror games scary at all? They never are You're not playing the right games. Amnesia: The Dark Descent.... Still not manly enough to finish it
AgentChicken Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Imagine Oblivion with the lovers mods on the Oculus Rift . Randomly going through dungeons then suddenly raped by a Zombie
deathparade Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Iam actually quite positive that this will be awesome as hell!I mean some people compare it to "3D" and it's huge failure but the Oculus is different it also included head tracking and such (which work in the source engine if iam correct) and all those kinda features! I really want one when its available and games support it that i hugely enjoy *Like Half-Life 2
canderes Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 I saw this and was really impressed. Something tells me OR will be getting attention from the military after this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=qpHWJMytx5I#! Who do I have to throw my money at to get this?

Right here thanks. Or at least find me a dedicated artist or two for models/animations.
Athstai Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Looks like it will work fairly well with Skyrim: http://www.gamespot.com/news/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-modded-with-oculus-rift-support-6407323 Can't wait to get mine shipped. And can't wait for the VR age to finally start Being able to create whole world yourself which you can actually "enter" is just fantastic. If this works out, this will have no doubt make a huge impact. I mean how many WoW junkies do we already have? Now add the fact that you don't look at your charater and friends through a tiny 2D image but feel like being really there and this will be as adictive as H
Kris Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Given the current works in progress (see oculusvr.com, youtube etc), I have no doubt someone will come along with 'the' killer app for it soon enough.
Davidson Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 I am really looking forward to get mine (one or two months more to wait, I can do it) In the meantime I am learning how to develop with the Unreal Development Kit and modelling with 3ds Max. Any other suggestions of what knowledges I should acquire to develop games with the Oculus? Right now I am only trying Sexout for New Vegas so I don't know if it is already possible for other games, but I would say the first thing to mod for the oculus would be to be able to stay in first person during the sex animations (example: second life). Better if bu turning the head we can see our own body. Finally, I also got the Hydra. It seems really cool for games that were developped for it. But I noticed than for the other games, whenever I move the controller around, I moves the whole body+camera, not just the arm or weapon. This sure will be a problem with the Oculus...Do you guys know where I could learn how to make a future Unreal engined game compatible with Hydra?
Kris Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Visit the UDK forums, you'll soon find the Razer Hydra DLL's and UScript. You can also find it via YouTube. Has potential. If you can animate Davidson or know someone who can, we should talk
Davidson Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Thanks! Is it the plugin that adds two programmable hands to UDK? I think I saw some videos about that.I'm just starting to learn, so I'll report back to you in six month!
Guest Lehshara Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Future of gaming what else to say. I would like to have one for mahself. Disunion - The guillotine simulator [uses Oculus Rift] I wonder how it feels.
canderes Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Well I'm convinced. I think I'm gonna order mine soon, but crap I wish I didn't have to wait till June to get it delivered. I had some thoughts about it being used for therapeutic reasons and making some heavy landscape modding to go with this, but I guess I won't know how that will work out till next month.
Davidson Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Will be interesting to see how Doom 3 looks and plays since it is going to be given away with the release of the OR as being the first game made for it (or should I say Re-made for it). with backers like Valve, Scaleform and Epic maybe it will go further then the others before it. Time will tell. Unfortunately, I have a very bad news for you... (unless there is a more recent update? I would love to be wrong on this one!) http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1523379957/oculus-rift-step-into-the-game/posts/430028

But don't worry, there are drivers that are making many games playable including doom 3. Vireio Perception VorpX MTBS thread to get Doom 3 working
Rayblue Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 Sorry to break this but... One of the devs working on this was killed by fleeing crooks. http://www.gamerevolution.com/news/oculus-rift-developer-andrew-scott-reisse-dead-at-33-19619
Davidson Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 This is really hard... I hope they will deposit an occulus rift helmet near his coffin during the funerals...
stacheldrahtkuecken Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 I read a similar article at kotaku http://kotaku.com/oculus-rift-developer-killed-a-bystander-during-a-poli-510805442 ... it seems it is not THE developer of the oculus but ONE of the developing team. Not that it diminishes the tragedy of the thing. Some of the comments blamed the American practice of aggressive police chases...does something like that happen often?

(Never a fan of Kotaku, however.) As for police chases, shit happens because such chases are unexpected that there's collateral damage along the way.
yosecretsquirrel Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 I can just hear my mother screaming from the kitchen "DON'T SIT SO CLOSE TO THE TV , IT WILL RUIN YOUR EYES!" of course my face was like 12 inches from the screen and it was a CRT so yeah, thanks Mom. Another thing I remember was being at the Calgary Stampede and paying $10 for a demonstration of a similar tech, with vector based graphics that predated the original Wolfenstein 3d and polygons the size of my fist (And It lagged, a lot). The headset was about 4 times the size of the Oculus and you had to stand in a circle that reminded me of a court docket, and I thought "Sure this will catch on, when people get tire of sitting down." After 2 mins of wearing the headgear, I was ready for a sit thats for sure. But this is a different beast to be sure, but It still needs to be chopped down in size I think, especially after seeing those Steampunk style lenses.
Kris Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Despite the look, it is quite lightweight. Remember, it is only the development kit. Commercial aims to be lighter with a higher resolution screen.
Babychucker Posted June 13, 2013 Author Posted June 13, 2013 Some awesome E3 stuff 1080p Prototype rift Cool little reaction vid for Eve-vr using the rift Start at 34:25 Oh and unreal 4 integration last week wooo! DEVKIT 1080p Prototype
Kris Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Yay, no more screendoor effect! Well, maybe less of one.
PhineasColby Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 I can assure everybody that this thing is awesome. If you have a 3ds you can understand, but this is way more immersive. Imagine Doom3, game of the millenium!
