Facebook will use this to track you some more.

 

There are alternatives that are much better than the casuals rift.

 

I'm positive that this is bullshit, please explain in depth how Facebook has or will have any correlation with the games I play using the Rift. 

 

 

It doesn't. It has no effect on anything but the funding. I have a pre-facebook DK1 and it's worse in every way to the post-facebook DK2. Facebook hasn't even a logo or a "connect to facebook" button on the entire Oculus website. It is independent of Facebook except for funding.

I have a post one and yeah, there is not even a facebook logo ON the thing without even talking about the website, and I have yet to come across anything that looks like an account log in page. I believe I've seen some Facebook logos during the initialization process but it was never intrusive, proof is I even forgot about it. The bullshit around the product from people who have not even tried it is simply amazing, it's like an uncontrollable need to bash anything that is remotely new and innovative. I call thee the Spanish inquisition syndrome, "what I do not understand must disappear" !

The DK2 is pre-facebook as well. Crescent Bay is post-facebook, but too close in time to the aquisition to actually have benefited. I think the main 'benefit' - and any potential downsides - to the FB aquisition is really going to show when the consumer product rolls out. I was worried initially, but frankly I've seen no bad behavior from FB on this, yet.

Yes they are going to fund it and not use it for spying.  :angel:

 

Facebook is not "FREE" Their entire corporate enterprise runs on pure Data collection. 

 

Aside from getting your retina scan, height data and other types of information. Facebook will have access to your entertainment choices. maby even periodic screenshots of what you are viewing.

 

Facebook and Google know your outside life but they can never get in your personal life. Now they can.

I understand facebook very Sharply and Crystal Clear to avoid using it at all times. You are experiencing Sheep syndrome, i'll walk strait into the meat factory, "What are you talking about you crazy nut! there free hay laced with sugar over there!"

Yes, and the french government organized the Charlie Hebdo attack and HIV was created by aliens to decimate us. You sir , have an acute George Orwell syndrome. While it is true that Facebook stores data about it's users, it is done in a business goal. They sell those informations to targeting advertisers and make it easier for them to feed you ads that you are susceptible to be interested in. As long as you have an advertisement blocker, or that you don't give a shit about ads in the first place, where's the big fucking deal at ? Where's it at ? Plus they don't need the Rift to lnow about your. "Entertainment" choice , they already know about it you genius. Looking for games titles on google , buying something on Amazon, having an account at a game center, they know what you play and certainly do not need a special device to figure it out. You do realize the only thing the rift does is render your monitor screen in actual 3d and filter it for close rang viewing right ? It's not a computer and it does nothing in itself, if data collectiô happens it happens on your PC, and that has nothing to do with the Rift. Which makes your bullshit even more irrelevant.

 

And that ignorant guess about Facebook taking screenshots of your game is complete bollocks. What do you think they'll do with those pics in the first place ? Create an algorithm to find out the way you play FPS from an image so they can send you more targeted ads ? Please stop being a redneck and think before you talk, you look like a Fox News journalist. They sell it to advertisers as I've said. As revolting as this may seem, this is how capitalism work. If you are not happy with it, you are better off living in a shack in the mountains, cause that shit is literally everywhere. Ever wondered how they managed to target advertisements so efficiently before the big social network boom around 2003/2004 ? 

I'm well aware of that privacy policy of Oculus', the fact that it shocks you proves that you are not extremely familiar with how all big scale companies work on this world. Listen, they all do this, you just never bothered to read others companies privacy policies before. The only thing new here is the physical information that will be collected. What, you don't want someone to know how large your head is ? I don't see any problem here, you already do that by going out everyday and it doesn't seem to be a problem for you. Being into sports, I have check ups once every three months where they scan me from head to toes and collect everything related to me, I've yet to experience any traumatic disorder in my life following this amazingly ordinary data collection. 

 

 I've yet to read your answer on how exactly all this is going to affect me during playing. At the moment, I only see some marketing and client database bollocks, which I absolutely do not care about since I'll play my games without being connected to the internet anyway, so they can shove their in game content up their asses for all I care, just like Steam or Origin. 

 

Talking about Steam, you do realize this same bullshit has been said around it before it came out ? Like it was going to take screenshots while you're playing or even when you're NOT playing, that they're spying on us and all that stuff ? At some point you've got to realize that you do get spied on, on a daily basis, to a scale that you are not even aware of. And there is nothing you can do about it, because it has become a component of our dear capitalist system and we all can't get enough of it even if we get angry at it. 

 

 

PS : Orwell also said that people corrects our History in real time by deleting fragments that do not please the governments and that only one language is allowed. And that censorship is common and accepted. His works were intentionally exaggerating since he wrote them at a time when dictatorships and authoritarian governments were proliferating like pest. There's obviously a difference in context and you can't, just can't follow everything in his books to the letter. What he was afraid about has happened a long time ago, complete privacy is already a myth and now it's either you keep smart and don't share the things you don't want shared, or just be completely open. There's no "in between", and there's certainly no need to boycott a device like the Oculus because of it, that'd be extremely hypocritical considering all the other things you should also boycott if you don't want any information about you sold out there. Like, fuck I don't know, you shouldn't go shopping for example. Or drinking in a bar. Or sharing a pic to your friends. Or look for something on any search engine.

just imagine PC skyrim with this and kinect!!!!

 

you look up to see a dragon, "FUS..RO DAH!" you follow it's landing form as you switch from archer to battle mage. Casting Ebony-flesh (sorry if I misspelled it Dx)

and start hacking away at it with your favorite sword.

 

 

I really think that the Oculus Rift can bring skyrim to the next level (which is pretty hard to do...)

To be honest, DK2 + sexlab + Immersive FP > most dedicated rift sex sims. And I get to see skyrim in VR as well! Dragons are scary! :D

About FB... you really have no idea of how the rift works, what it entails or how a company like Facebook (or Google, or Apple, or Microsoft) operates. Besides, what could you do that is so interesting for anyone to spy on you? are you making an Alcubierre Drive that runs on water? have you achieved cold fussion in your garage or something? Otherwise you're not relevant enough to spy on you, and your data is indistinguishable from the other millions of users out there. Welcome to the world: you are NOT a special snoflake.

<3 all the Facebook conspiracy theories.  You're all discounting the possibility that Facebook is simply trying to extend into future markets to make the company less reliant on ONE social media service when so many are cropping up that are actually able to compete with them?  The rift is a DISPLAY DEVICE.  I have an Acer monitor, doesn't mean I randomly get Acer advertisements on my screen.  The most I see them doing is adding Rift compatibility to some of the newer games that are popping up on there.  Maybe a little app that integrates in that pops up with Facebook alerts that you can probably opt out of.

Data collection doesn't work on screenshots and personal examination. It works on statistics. Nobody sifts through user data, a program does. There are no human beings in data science, there are only IPs and browsing statistics.

 

"Lonely Oculus Rift User Screenshot Sorter" would quite possibly be the worst job position imaginable, marginally passing "Professional Old Man's Ballsack Examiner" and "Teenaged Know-It-All Secret Bathroom Camera Specialist".

Rift owner here - I'm happy to report Skyrim with all the fun fun mods from loverslab works _beautifully_ with the VorpX injector. It's funny - I always expected my main use of the Rift for horror games, and scoffed a bit at the whole "VR Porn" thing... but horror games are frankly too damn intense in the rift, while sexified Skyrim is just SO MUCH FUN.

Yeah, there's a lot of paranoia about data collection. But it's all done by computers, a human never sees that data. Nor are you person, you are datapoint #85438 in the source data.

 

Personally can't wait for Oculus to release. Valve's Vive seems interesting, but given that it's not a monitor but also a controlling device, i don't see it being useful for "core" gaming. ANd Oculus had John Carmack working on it. You may dislike his games, but can't deny the technology behind them was pretty awesome.

 

 

Am I the only one who doesn't find horror games scary at all?

Silent Hills PT looked to be the first for me but it got cancelled. The demo videos were awesome

Using Vorpx from months ago it was OK, very good depth and 3d effects but skyrim's scaling is so fucked, everything looks weird. Even worse enb didn't work, which bothers me a lot but some people don't care. When I get my cv1 I'll prob post an update.

Hey, thanks for the info.. so ya probably wont like hearing this, but, you could give Imaginator a go in lieu of an enb.. personally it's all I use myself and love it, so just throwing it out there as an option for ya, it's definitely WAY better than plain old vanilla..

 

so what'd actually think of 3rd person view for anims mate?.  is it bearable or just completely fucked?

Not bad at all, but I had fps issues so I didn't use it much. Both 1st and 3rd person looked great.

 

 

Thanks Panda.. sounds AWESOME to me then. now I've just gotta survive the waiting until I can afford it, the rift controllers releasing & the shipping time..lol
