Ark of Truth Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Has anyone else been having issues with Steam since the last update? The Beta got installed yesterday for me when I am not even signed up for the Beta program and ever since Steam has been playing up to hell. Symptoms include but not limited too: - Lag of the whole computer system or network. - Webpages loading slow. - Steam reinstalls game which are already installed.
geonosis Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 nope evrything is fine for me after the update
GrimReaperCalls Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Mine's been acting up a little, it decided to suddenly install Arma 2, even though I un-installed that ages ago. Took a while before I realized what was eating my internet connection >.>. Haven't played any games since the update so don't know if I'm getting lagg too. Ark of Truth Posted February 16, 2013 Author Posted February 16, 2013 There's comments on the Steam forums as well.....nice new bug that....
Kashiwaba Tomoe Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 And that's why I consider Steam to be Malware.
Kamen Rider Kuuga Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 No problems on my end. But I fucking wish I could kill this Big Picture nonsense.
manam Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Steam =/= malware but that's a discussion for another place. They concluded the last Steam beta (introducing big picture, offline messaging, chat history) a couple days ago, I'd been signed up for it for a while and they gave the beta users a notice it was ending. Presumably that's what steam is doing when it says it's downloading but no games are being updated - it's just updating its own framework. I've had some problems with the store/community pages not loading properly but nothing system-wide. By reinstalling games, do you mean it just starts downloading stuff for a game for a few minutes? I've had that happening for months without the downloads being linked to any update news or patches, which is a really strange bug. Either way, you're not alone. Hopefully they can iron this release out pretty soon.
Slammer64 Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Guess I've been lucky, no problems with Steam on either Windows or Linux, besides the damn Linux bug of Steam wanting to use PulseAudio, I won't have PulseAudio on my KDE desktop, so I found a way to make it use ALSA natively, other than that going great.
Dex Luther Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 I don't like Steam anyways, so one more reason to not like it.
AgentChicken Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 I had those problems too, i just deleted client registry, blob and restarted steam
HentaiGnome Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 I actually noticed an issue with Skyrim and Steam recently. Normally, mods that I'm subscribed to will automatically try to update each time I load up Skyrim. Recently, however, it hasn't been happening, I don't even see the message appear at the bottom-right corner of the Skyrim launcher. But sometimes I don't encounter the issue, so it's weird as this happens all so randomly, and it doesn't matter whether I restart or shutdown the computer. I'm pretty sure it's not a mod that's causing the problem since all I have are the four Unofficial Skyrim Patches, "When Vampires Attack", "Run For Your Lives", and an ENB preset called RealLike ENB. That's all. And yes, I am always connected online and Steam is in its default configuration to automatically check for updates on both the client and the subscribed mods...
myuhinny Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Haven't noticed but then I haven't let it install yet. It came up saying restart yesterday but I just ignored it and it was still up when I went to bed and I just hit shutdown.
Rayblue Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Are all of your settings set not to automatically download game updates and anything?
Lagoon0654 Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Occasional lag, but my PC is crap so I can't really put much blame on steam. I like to keep the steam overlay disabled as it helps a little bit performance wise. Perhaps do the same.

dark0nex Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Only thing which happened to me was a TF2 update, and a Dota 2 update. then I launched Saints Row the Third and it took a really long time to Load, much longer then usual. Frist the menu, then the game itself, I was starting to think something was blocking it, but no, it finally kicked in. Game lagged a little more then usual. I figured I had something open, and my PC was just being silly for a one time deal. I guess it was steam. I'll just no use it till next update... oh wait, my games...
RitualClarity Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Working find on my end. No problems to mention. Haven't seen any issues for months.
HanPL Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 I have kinda strange situation with steam On my PC it works without any problem but on laptop it take AGES to load any webpages. So hard to tell what really depends on.
RitualClarity Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 I have kinda strange situation with steam On my PC it works without any problem but on laptop it take AGES to load any webpages. So hard to tell what really depends on. I had similar problems before. One of two things. One is the internet is actually going slower on the laptop and or two the config files are old and need refreshing. On old installs of steam I have noticed that it seems to slow down. I on occasion rename ClientRegistry, blob to ClientRegistry.blobold and restart Steam. Let Steam recreate ClientRegistry.blob and it usually fixes those minor problems.
AgentChicken Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 All i can really say mate, is "Welcome to Steam". Steam is buggy, Steam will crash and give you the shits, but it will always be there for you when you need it ;3. its kinda like that dog you have had since you were a child and he is getting sick one day and the next he's running around and shitting everywhere
Ark of Truth Posted April 2, 2013 Author Posted April 2, 2013 Well now I am having the issue of it thinking I opted for BETA and installs BETA updates everyday.
Symon Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Steam is perhaps best described as a PUP. That's Potentially Unwanted Program in the trade. That is, it does things that the actual user might not want it to. I wouldn't quite classify it as malware yet.
RitualClarity Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Well now I am having the issue of it thinking I opted for BETA and installs BETA updates everyday. You can opt out of them. Even though you haven't opted in. In Steam-- settings -- account you can see the beta. Click change and then the selection of None. I don't use it. I currently checked and I haven't been auto-enrolled into the Beta program. My Steam client works as good as it has ever worked before. None of the problems mentioned by others here.
Astaroth-Lite Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 So other people have problems with Steam? That's unfortunate.
