landess Posted January 25, 2020 Posted January 25, 2020 As I visit the forums, I notice less activity than, say, 2 years ago. I continue to upload screenshots and try to give help for others, but noticed a lot of players from before don't post. While skimming the Sims 4 forums, I see players from the Sims 3 whom 'jumped ship' and now seem to be home here at the Sims 4. I glad people find value and entertainment with the Sims 4. I understand creators may want to upload here to remain 'appreciated' by more players instead of supporting an 11 year old game... Just wanted to say - I miss you guys. Keep up the Sim love.

I don't think it's a matter of wanting to be appreciated. Sims 3 has a lot of gameplay elements that are better than Sims 4, but from a modding standpoint Sims 4 is better. In terms of creating sims, Sims 4 is so much better, it's not really a comparison. I haven't been on the Sims 3 forums since early 2016, but I remember you. You're more than welcome to visit the S4 section. Even if you don't have the game, there's plenty of stories and pics to enjoy, or just engage in some interesting discussions. ?
pyrosushi Posted February 17, 2020 Posted February 17, 2020 I always want to go back to Sims 3 but the lag is horrible for me. Sims 4 with a 25GB modded folder runs fine and loads well. Sims 3 has the open world stuff and expansions that causes seizures in the game and constant freezes.

To be honest, My Sims 3 also ran like shit till I finally got a 'recipe' right. That required a system well beyond anything they imagined when coding the game (VR ready out of the box). If it wasn't for several amazing mod designers, and many years of reading, watching and experimenting, I'd likely have dropped it years ago. It's obvious 3 was cutting edge, asking more than it could handle. Instead of continuing to push the envelope, it just seemed they took the easy route, and let modern graphics cards do the work on 'pretty', and returned to a simpler concept to get it out the door to sell more DLC. No way am I going to spend the kind of money I did on the Sims 2 and 3 once again. It really is a bit of a scam. Plus everyone knows they either cut content to sell later, or just never implement it again. Regardless, Like any game that players can really get their modding gloves around, the Sims 4 looks so much better in the hands of the players, instead of the corporate hacks. Seriously, if it wasn't for the fact that I'd end up spending over 1/2 grand just to get 'back' to where I am now, I'd likely have both as well... wait, I forgot about Origin... never mind that brain fart. My Sims 3 IS Origin free - ALL disks and no launcher makes Johnny a happy camper. If you're going to be sleeping with Origin, I guess one may as well play 4 if the system can handle it.

After my recent 'bout' with populating new worlds, and finding MOAR cc on the web (it never ends) I'm really curious as to 'what' makes creating better. Seriously, I like to educate myself, and was hoping you could expand on this since I'll never find out for myself. If curious, It's just a few clicks away to see my recent screen shot uploads - My profile/attachments is a good place to start if not wanting to visit Sims 3/general/Show us your pics -or- Post your KW pics here. (2 long posts doing the same thing >.<) Better in 'ease of creation', or 'outcome of the Sim' once done? Or something else? Just curious - thanks. (I was checking the Sim 'porn star request and find' since I really like seeing other players using these tools to imitate reality)
Julie J Posted February 18, 2020 Posted February 18, 2020 I wanted to explore Sims 3 more but it won't run on my PC,
Proje Posted February 18, 2020 Posted February 18, 2020 I still play Sims 3. The open world is something I can never let go of, even if Sims 4 has more modding potential than 3.

This one statement helps correct my impression of the situation as a whole.... 27 minutes ago, Proje said: The open world is something I can never let go of This one feature, which also 'cured' the problem with time in the Sims 2, is why I even bothered starting playing 3. I had already heard about the short comings of 3 when compared to 2 in terms of features and it continues with 4. The whole pool fiasco is a great example. They might have 4 perfected in another five years, just in time for the Sims 5/online where they can control even more, and only store bought 'CC' will work/be allowed (Fallout76 anyone).

I'm not suggesting this, just stating it as an option. I tried it years ago, and it was not quite as good as the game itself (was more limited), but it would give you a great idea of what it's like. I suppose you could also check out some YouTube videos, but from the ones I've seen, it would not adequately convey the experience. In terms of 'outcome of the sim', if you're looking for realistic looking sims, I would say the two games are close in terms of potential (not basic sims). Many may disagree with me, but with enough of the right CC, either game can make real-looking sims. I've seen a few S3 sims that look surprisingly like their real-life counterpart. I guess I meant it in terms of 'ease of creation' in that Sims 4 gives the creator A LOT more power / flexibility in what they can do to create their sim. This is evident in the amount of facial / body sliders, but that's not the entirety of it. Similarly, Sims 3 had a single preset (body, eyes, lips, nose, etc shape). Sims 4 has multiple presets for each. All of which can be adjusted with numerous sliders, and custom presets can be made as well (through modding). Since modding is easier in S4, it's easier to get (or make) different CC. There are also transgender options (though these could be improved). 22 hours ago, landess said: wait, I forgot about Origin... never mind that brain fart. Origin rips people off to no end. Sims 4 is available on disk as well, for pretty much half of what Origin charges. You can also buy Digital Download codes (these have to be entered in the Origin Launcher though). I never buy anything from Origin, and always buy from 3rd party sources. I used to buy directly from EA which also charged half of what Origin does, but I can longer find such a site (ie. Sims 4 Expansion Packs: EA price was $23, Origin $46. Double!! And instead of the price going down over time, they raised the price. It's now $52). No one should support Origin by buying from them.

It sounds a bit like Fallout 4 vs 3 when launched. Many concepts and mods created by players for 3 were adopted by Bethesda and added to 4. I use a shit ton of custom sliders, skin tones, yada yada, just to enable a more competent creation experience. So in essence, it seems to me the ability to Mod the game is the real advantage. This would go along with my impression that in a way, they 'dumbed' down the game, making it more stable and allowing better results from such efforts. The term dumbed down isn't a slight at all, but a reference to removing the open world so the game just plays easier from a programmers point of view. I do have Origin on this machine, but it hasn't been opened since the last time I played Star Wars Battlefront II a few months after release. Those prices - my GOD! I had to clean my monitor to make sure I was seeing correctly. Games for consoles began this price fixing almost 20 years ago. Shit on a disk, call it a game, and charge the industry standard $59.99. Oops, stopping rant. Whew. Getting better at catching myself Thanks again for taking the time to get a bit into detail. I'm very surprised The Sims 4 doesn't have a slightly 'shaved' version for free - to get players 'hooked', and want to spend more to get the total game experience. Crusader Kings 2 basic is now free, and that game also has a ton of DLC.
Elsalovescocaine Posted February 18, 2020 Posted February 18, 2020 Sims3 were cool, but sims 4 mods are too..... awesome for back again. even if gameplaysucks a bit, god bless CC made for the game.
Sineadtanibata76 Posted February 18, 2020 Posted February 18, 2020 I want to play sims 3, but I have to comb through the CC I have for it because CC magic corrupted all of it. Also the fucking lag using Isla Paradiso was infuriating freezing every second. What sims 4 has going for it is the adult content is way ahead of sims 3. If I were you I would check out the adult mods and see if you like it based on that.

Steelseries gave away Origin Basic (TS4 included) subscription keys last year. Everyone interested in should have a license by now. With mods from here and Triplis' Sorcerer mod a lot can be done already. There are enough CC but finding the proper ones and downloading them does take a lot of time. There is also a HQ texture mod but the content creation from new packs is very delayed and WW has it's issues. So I don't use it. The meshes are usually low resolution meshes and not smooth shaded. 32 bit computers are still supported so the meshes will stay low-poly. Sims look better than Minecraft but still have a lot of corners. Also the TS4 loading times when visiting another household, location or dating do not improve gameplay. With TS5 being released in fall one could wait for it as the graphics look much better.

It mostly boils down to labeling, both in files and description. So many times I get led somewhere, only to realize I'm 'barking up the wrong tree' -BUT- this has exposed me to a lot more CC for the sims 4 than I would have ever seen and I will say without hesitation, yeah, I get 'jealous' I know that it's not that 'they can't' make it for the Sims 3. I realize now it's just a lot easier to create for 4. Why program code when one can use tools to do the same thing? <--(over the top reference here) Makes sense to me from a basic standpoint of simplicity (and marketing savvy from EA). Isla Paradisio - Another great example of players, going in, and basically remapping the entire world for pathing errors. I have yet to download this particular 'fixed' world, and really should. I quit using it for the same reasons. BUT the reasons are because of EA, and it sure doesn't give me faith to keep rewarding them with purchases. I appreciate every ones honesty when mentioning the short comings of the Sims 4. I know I'm getting good info instead of fanboi hysteria. This post was created as a shout-out to those I've not 'seen' in some time, and to alleviate fears that the sounds heard below you are indeed living humans and not 'ghosts'. I continue to live in 'Old Town', trying to maintain the historical section of Sims gaming. Thanks for stopping by and giving this old man the time of day. Sim love 4 ever
