bm2x Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 FNIS loads and it does what it does, but it has a warning. How do I know what is the problem so I can work to solves it?
Jak Greymoon Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 What directory is your FNIS Generate tool run from? It should be located in \Skyrim Special Edition\Tools\GenerateFNIS_for_Users where ever your game is installed. You should run it right from that directory. For my install I have it in the proper place, but still get a warning about "not the expected directory" since it defaults to the "steamapps" folder usually. But you're getting an error that makes me thinks it's not in the game's directory.

Should be 126 bones and listed as "unknown". Install XPMSE. It is presently only installing the base animation pack. I would assume you are intending to use more animations than that? Because it isn't finding them. Are you using a mod manager?

Yes, I decided to start over using Mod Organizer instead of The Nexus Manager. I'm still trying to figure that out too, but that's just a familiarity thing. Throwing XPMSE on and moving the file to the recommended location makes this, so 2 steps backwards? lol Also, even running it from the original location WITH XPMSE installed has changed nothing.

I'm going to assume you aren't running FNIS correctly through MO. Every program like this has to be run directly through MO or it won't see any of the other things MO is adding, just whatever is in the "normally untarnished" data directory. If you have XPMSE, then you'll know it is right when the part on skeleton.hkx reads "female: unknown (126 bones)" Just look into running programs through MO, that is likely the issue. EDIT: To elaborate: use the MO gear-wheels thing to find FNIS Generate For Users, and then run the program through MO's drop-down over the right panel.

Okay, so the FNIS is no available through the gear wheels, MO says that the FNIS is a bad mod when I try to download and install it manually and MO will not log into nexus. SO, what's my next step, please?
27X Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 Install fnis in MO's overwrite folder. Yes, the overwrite folder. also since you're literally starting over, you should take seijin's advice and move steam and any other game out of program files, the time spent avoiding bullshit and loss of sanity will be your own.

Okay, My PC forced me to restart. I have moved all of my steam action out of Program Files and corrected the path for MO and I noticed this at the bottom when I start it up: problem? And when I try to click the globe in MO it just open the nexus and that gives me a forced OPEN NXMHandler prompt window. Sorry if I am being stupid, but this is new to me here...

Just Don't Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 What MadMansGun said, it also applies to MO. Surely you installed FNIS and didn't check the folder structure. Download FNIS again, when MO ask you to install instead of just pressing OK press Manual. You should see warning (a red message at the bottom of the install window). All you have to do is right click in the "FNIS-version-number" you see in the list and select "Set data directory", you'll see that "FNIS-version-number" has changed to "Data", warning still in red. So do it again, right click over "Data" and "Set data directory". That way you are fixing the folder structure. If MO ask you to merge or replace pick Replace (you won't see this message if you previously uninstalled the bad install). With a bad install you have this: Quote C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim\Data\FNIS Behavior\FNIS Behavior 6.3\Data\tools\GenerateFNIS_for_Users\GenerateFNISforUsers.exe With a good install you should have this: Quote C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim\Data\tools\GenerateFNIS_for_Users\GenerateFNISforUsers.exe And in MO it looks similar. Your current install should look like: Quote Mod Organizer 2\mods\FNIS Behavior\FNIS Behavior 6.3\Data\tools\... When it should be just: Quote Mod Organizer 2\mods\FNIS Behavior\tools\...
bm2x Posted January 17, 2020 Author Posted January 17, 2020 Okay, like fuck me. I got FNIS in a zipped/rar thing off the nexus. It is sitting on my desktop. I can make an overwrite, but it just tells me that it is an empty file. I can try to install manually off the MO but it says again, it is an empty file/mod and will have no effect. I also cannot open the tutorial files that 27X linked to me and idk why because m pc seems to recognize the files types. I am reading through a dedicated MO walkthrough that SAYS how FNIS needs to be done (manual or off nexus and how it should be done as an overwrite) but beyond that NOTHING and none of the issues I am having are showing up anywhere. I tried to youtube and google but I am just getting: 1) file location issues (I think I solved those as far as where everything is on my computer) 2) FNIS needs to be in an overwrite type on MO (which I cannot do) 3) do A then B and you're set (but I can get to A, then PROBLEM and B is nowhere in sight) SO like I understand how frustrating this is for everybody trying to help me because I am frustrated because although this is not a simple process I feel like it should be easier than I am making it. Like WTF am I doing wrong? What crucial little checkbox have I overlooked?
Heroine HoneyCrotch Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 skeleton arm fix needs to checked in patches. you could probably update the skeleton your using.

Download FNIS (manual or through the mod manager button, doesn't make any difference. Install, when MO ask you how to install pick MANUAL. Then do the "Set data directory" as I said. You must add GenerateFNISforUsers.exe to the executables MO has. Once you've done that you can open FNIS through MO and use it as usual. You should check the Arm Fix. Once FNIS has done its thing you just close it and the files should be in the Overwrite, you can create a mod from these files and done. If you really need a step by step and a video is not enough, I'm not sure if my guide with screenshots would be of any help, but you may learn a thing or two about MO if you check it out. Check "04. Skyrim Script Extender, it has an example of how a bad install looks and how to fix it (the Set data directory trick, but with pictures). Check "07. FNIS", because it's all about FNIS. I wrote that for Skyrim SE, but if you know which mods to install you shouldn't have much trouble to make things work, the tools install and usage is the same.
