Oh shit WTF Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 When I start playing skyrim, the usage is around 90 and mostly 99 when I’m in exterior cell but after few minutes it starts decreasing to below 50% of gpu usage and fps decreases along with it to below 30. CPU usage is average 20% all the time. How can I fix this? my GPU is RTX 2080 and CPU is i7-9700K. CPU has been overclocked to 5GHz long time ago.

GPU usage is going down for some reasons and I want to fix it because it’s bothering me by lowering goddamn fps. GPU usage should be higher than 90% at least otherwise fps wouldn’t be lower than it’s supposed be

It runs when it is needed and to the extent it is needed. If you are in, e.g. the little guardroom behind the gates at Whiterun, then your GPU has nothing much to do. If you are in the middle of a fight with everyone running around and magic going off all over the place then your GPU has to do more work. You are assuming that your FPS is tied to the amount of work your GPU is doing. There are lots of other things which have a greater impact on FPS than your GPU's work rate.

Then why is fps is low when gpu usage is low and fps is normal when gpu is fully functioning?

Revise temperatures with Gpuz, for example, because is the only way for gradualy down the performance. Aditionally, can you post your machine and screen configuration? Seems that you want to play in pure real 4k (3840 x 2160 pixels) with pure real 4k textures and for have that in a consistent way you need configure the game, the mods and the ENB in the correct way.
Tron91 Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 Don't want to get in between, but how do you go as low as 20 fps?

Guest Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 It's probably thermal throttling, check your gpu temps.

Temperture on both CPU and GPU is totally normal and both are arounf 70 degrees the highest. I use MSI afterburner to check them.

AMD gpu drivers do. if nvidia doesnt then maybe you could tweak the gpu power curve so that it doesnt "sleep" when you play skyrim come to think of it there might be another issue at play here did you check how much power your card is drawing at low fps compared to high? did you also check your gpu memory usage while playing? if you're playing at high resolution and use a lot of texture packs that push you over the 8GB of memory your card has then you could be getting bottlenecked by the memory bandwidth try to disable texture packs to see if that works afterburner with rivatuner can show you all of that data so check those things because it's hard to pinpoint the issue without it 1 hour ago, Grey Cloud said: Once more you misquote me. Note the word 'constantly'. xD not only do you ignore the real world use case where gpus are literally meant to run at near full load to spit out 60-240 frame a second for literally hours every single day, you also ignore the laws that require them to last at least 2-3 years even under full load for their stated purpose AND at the same time apparently never heard of cryptomining :D or wait, maybe you're one of those that think manufacturers push out dies with unsafe voltages so they can spend all their earning on RMAs? :D

All machines have a Mean-Time to Failure (MTF). If you run any machine, washing machine, internal combustion engine, GPU, at close to its maximum then it will die sooner than running it its optimum operating or running level. Can you explain the relevance of crypto mining?

Tron91 Posted October 20, 2019 Posted October 20, 2019 I simply know that when I play Skyrim SE, my laptop runs it at 30 fps when on battery but switches to 60 fps when draining power from the AC adapter.
