Skyrim Crashing?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have a heavily modded skyrim, and I tried my hardest to make sure no mods would conflict. Yet I have an issue and I was hoping someone may have a solution other than deleting a bunch of mods. My game launches fine, and I can load my save fine. But sometimes out of the blue I just crash. I have 4GB of RAM allocated towards skyrim so I don't believe it's an issue. I have also run loot so I'm not thinking it's my load order. Either way here's my mod list.

Where and how? 4GB RAM might come short, but with your short list i guess it shouldn't. Might depend on how high your body textures are and how much NPCs you have around, but anyways. Plenty of possibilities to screw that up, though.

What you're lacking by the look of it is crash fixes and the unofficial patches.

I don't use MO but I'm wondering why DB and DG are at #11 and #12. Skyrim Update and HF plus another 8 mods?

You would be better posting a load order (as text and in spoiler tags)

In the meantime install these if you haven't already:

Crash fixes

SKSE Plugin Preloader

https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/75795/?

ENBoost (if you are not using an ENB)

Read all instructions carefully.

I use INI Settings which is a quick mod that allows me to change my ram allocation. And I do have all the Unofficial patches as well,

If you are using 8k specualr maps for ALL the women of Skyrim you also need a LOT of video RAM.

Can you give a link to this?

As Psalam has said, 8K textures will need a lot of video RAM.

Where exactly are they in your load order?

From the screenshot, I can see the mod load order (left pane) is wonky. Ideally the order should be Dawnguard (Priority 0), Hearthfires (Priority 1), and Dragonborn (Priority 2) in that specific order in the left pane of MO/MO2. Followed immediately by USLEEP (Priority 3). After that the mod load order requires some thought. Unfortunately there is no tool I know of that will sort the left pane.

It all worked fine until installing SL, I have 8GB of VRAM

I'll give it a go. thanks

Loot sucks tbh

No it doesn't, otherwise thousands of people would not have been using it for years.

SKSE ini pre-download for lazy users

That is a waste of time. Smart users don't use it. Far better to learn what is going on.

What patches are you talking about? There are none in your plug-in list and patches should go after the thing they are patching.

Which mod did you delete?

If you do not install the three tools I linked earlier then your game will continue to crash, 8GB of VRAM or no. It is not a case of 'allocating' Ram or VRAM. It is a case of setting up the game correctly in the first place.

UPDATE: deleted one mod, re ran Fnis and moved around my load order, BOOM fixed. Loot sucks tbh

It'd be great, but Loot can't fix everything. I noticed you're running the official hi res tex pack and then Skyrim HD after. I'd go into Steam and uninstall the tex pack as Skyrim HD replaces and supersedes it. Not a likely cause of problems, but just additional overhead if I recall the way NMM works. Also it's good to have the XP32 skeleton at the bottom of your load order so nothing sneaks another skeleton in on you. The Author knows this, but Loot doesn't. And if your not using the XPMSE weapon styles or other goodies disable the esp, you just need the skeleton.

Good point about the Hi-Res packs and Skyrim HD. I saw them but it didn't register as I was looking at the lack of unofficial patch for them. Don't need to use Steam. Just remove the esps. Persoanlly I'd reinstall Skyrim HD at this point just make sure it is the textures being used.

unof hd crap replace much more than any texture replacer...

that thing is supposed to be the 2k version of the 1k crap you have in textures.bsa

but in fact they have just resize the crap to 2k and apply a filter on it (crappy result, because of that it can't compete with texture replacers, but the 1k crap still look worse than that, so you keep that for the textures not replaced by textures replacers)

Noted, I'll take the time to learn it soon! And I have every unofficial patch, for all the dlc, skyrim, and the high res patch. And okay, I'll go grab those mods. Thanks!

That's a good point on both ends, I was gonna download a lot more visual mods like SMIM. So eventually I'll just scrap the high res text pack. And honestly I've run loot a lot, and you'd be surprised how many times it's broken my game. Once I do it my self it fixes it

I've used LOOT for over 3 years and run it probably hundreds if not thousands of times and not once has it broken my game so I would be absolutely astounded if it had broken your game once. Your screenshot of your LH pane, your plug-in load order and your lack of the 3 basic stability tools means your game if fucked from the ground up. Blaming LOOT is not the way forward.

What polonius is telling you can be ignored. Firstly, you aren't using NMM. Secondly, XPMSE does not have to be at the bottom when using NMM. You need to ensure that nothing overwrites XPMSE and the easiest way to do that is to install it last and let it overwrite everything. That is not the same as it being last in your load order in NMM (which you don't use anyway). It is correct that you don't need the esp to be active if you are only using the skeleton. (If the esp is deactivated it is not at the bottom of your load order in NMM is it?). Things may be different with MO.
