Adult mods, are they harmless fun or harmful

Harmless fun in my view. They allow me to play out things that I'd never get away with in real life, you know, things like whoring around without a care in the world... Videogame pregnancy is a lot easier to deal with than the real life version. Explore darker sides of my nature without hurting anyone via many of the mods on this site. I can be wild and crazy in a game whereas in reality I'm more shy and reserved.

 

I understand the question, but to me it's like asking if swords and sorcery are harmful because they are in games. I'm not going to go around chopping people for loot in reality but I do it all the time in Oblivion.

I am lazy to research but seriously it for me is only a game. I would not blame the games on anything that goes out outside the game but rather the person who plays the game. If a person is easily impressionable they would go out rape people like in lovers pk. And other things like that.

 

Now I am sure some people high up will like to say games are the fault for everything (look at the sandy hook shootings) they are trying to mandate how video games are coming four with violence. I do not want to go into a rant here because I am sure no one wants to hear all that. But they basically trying to take away small freedoms like getting a hooker doing her and killing here with a bat (Gta common reference) I play many games and I do not go beyond that. When I log off I am just a regular dork/geek and all that good stuff who will not harm a fly.

 

I would not feel bad about what I do to some pixel ai. But then again I play oblivion with one Hp so I guess I am already a creeper in that sense alone.

 

I don't see harm in games at all besides the painful eyes from staring at monitor all day long. But that's a personal choice.

I've killed probably tens of thousands (or more?) of virtual people in various games by now. I have a lot of trouble understanding people who are ok with this but not with sex in a game.

 

Actually I lied, I do understand. I grew up in a conservative religious community where sex was demonized. It is somewhat liberating to be able to explore it in a safe virtual world (even if it is generally a pale imitation of reality).

 

edit: checked my stats on a few games. that number is probably going to be well into the six digit range. I've got 12k+ kills in bf3 alone, and I played way more bf2 and bf1942, and many many other games. And I'm not even sure how to go about estimating kills in RTS games.

Still I dont feel guilty for watching porn, having dark fantasies or anything, sex is part of our world and I dont see why we should get offended by it as long as it is consensual.

IMHO, I would say it is all based on the individual and the experience. Adding adult sexual experiences to the gaming world is in itself a harmless thing, at least as harmless as adding violent acts is. And seeing as video gaming is about having an enjoyable experience, if it makes you feel bad then you probably shouldn't do it. If it makes you feel bad and yet you continue to do it, you might consider private therapy. This would be true of anything in life, not just games.

 

In the case of video games, while there have been documented cases of individuals who touted violent video games as the catalyst for violent acts in the real world, most people are capable of recognizing fantasy from reality and keeping the two separate.

 

If adding Adult sexual experiences seemed like an appealing idea but then left you uncomfortable, perhaps it was the actual types of plugins you added that causes the unease. One of the beautiful things about most of the framework systems found here, like Lovers with PK or the new Sexlab for Skyrim, is that they allow you to customize the sexual activities to your own tastes.

 

For example, I was simply seeking a way to have an adult relationship in game, such as settling down and raising a family after saving Tamriel, as an extension of the roleplaying aspect of Oblivion or Skyrim. This is a testament to some of the fine mod work of people who build follower mods. So I had no real interest in slaves or animals or rape, as those aspects made me "feel bad" pretty much as they would in real life. Then again on days when I wasn't in the mood for reality in game, I might check out those aspects just to see what the mods do or how well they were executed. Certainly if I allowed those mods to bother me or considered trying them out in real life, I would hope I could recognize that as a problem.

 

There a wide variety of sexual tastes and fantasies represented in the mods and plugins found at LoversLab, but that doesn't mean you have to have them all, take what you want and leave the rest. Nobody has to know and most wouldn't care if they did. The mods and plugins not only represent individual taste but are also Culturally driven as well.

 

The last thing to consider is that these are developed and meant for ADULTS whereas the game itself may have a broader audience. If you use these plugins as a non-adult, they will most likely feel uncomfortable regardless.

Now on to more serious matters, honestly tis just a game. Do you feel remorse while playing God of War, do you feel sorry for the thousands of noobs you pwned in order to make it to prestige 10 in a COD game? I certainly don't, then again, I don't play COD.  So here is the thing, if you do not feel guilt or shame for killing, why should you feel guilt for doing something albeit more natural, ie. sex in a videogame?

 

I don't blame you though, this is what bothers me about this hypocrite society. In videogames we condone massive acts of violence, but if  a woman shows a nipple, everybody loses their minds. That however is a whole different subject, one from which we could make a thesis and blame Americana culture and what not.

 

What I suggest is that you add the content that you desire, regardless of whether people will like it or not. Enjoy your time and game, if you so much desire to add hookers to skyrim, then by all means enjoy yourself. You are not hurting anyone by doing so and besides no one has the right to judge you.

 

That said, I myself do not enjoy some of the content provided within the community. For example I find bestiality and things like that somewhat disgusting, but hey not everything provided here s meant for me and I am in no way forced to add the content that I do not like. 

 

tl;dr Add the content you like, ignore the one that you don't and enjoy yourself, forget about the hypocrisy of our society.

Seriously... I have great respect for Emily as a modder but Ive seen most of her work being about the darkest side of adult modding, adding more gore and body parts to it. The monstergirl project is a great project but all about rape so I dont believe a a single word of the above post   lol

Adult mods depict from consensual normal sex to incest, rape, bestiality and child abuse.

Normally Id think "WTF is wrong with these people??!!"

But making a few extrapolations, the average game is about killing, blowing up people's heads, chopping them off cutting their limbs and blowing them to bits

And guess what... REAL murder is WRONG too

I still have my own likes and dislikes about sex mods and what is too extreme, but thats my choice. If I dont like a sex mod and consider it way too revolting, its easy, I wont download it.

Personally, I use certain "adult mods" in games because I like having that added layer of "realism." That being said, I usually feel really protective of my character and don't use them 

 

Despite that, I like knowing my character can have relationships and so forth..as it feels like I am actually playing a game in which I engage in a role, rather than just going about a set of tasks or adhering to a defined set of actions as laid forth by the developers.

 

I don't see the mods I use as "harmful"..as claiming they are harmful suggests there is, obviously, something negative resulting from them. I don't see how harm could result from adult mods overall, especially seeing as some mods labeled as adult simple make the game have an added sense of realism to it. For example, a mod labeled as "adult" simply added a hygiene feature. Also, they are not harming anyone. Chances are, if someone intends to engage in weird monkey-sex or what have you in reality, downloading a mod for an RPG game isn't going to further detract or add to such a desire.

 

I am hoping those playing the adult mods are, in fact, adults. As such, I would assume, as adults, the individuals downloading and playing these mods understand that they are simply fantasy and meant to enhance a gaming experience, rather than being something they should definitely engage in when going about their daily lives. One would certainly hope such! Especially seeing as they(people downloading adult mods for Skyrim in particular) are hacking people down with swords, burning them alive with magic and so forth.

 

However, I strongly agree with what an earlier post remarked, Jexsam, when he/she noted that certain mods feel detached from the game because they are trying to make it into something it is not, namely, and I quote, "a shitty sex game." 

 

It seems that if we try to blame games for the depraved sexual acts of certain people then we are doing nothing more than taking the blame and responsibility for the actions away from the individual because we can't comprehend a human being could be so twisted.

 

This is also coming from someone who, oddly enough, does not endorse porn nor do I find it to be meaningful, worthwhile, or any such..Basically, I think it's pointless. Lo, the hypocrisy when I am on such a site. I know, I know.

I dont think the sexlab mod that I use shot anyone, killed anyone. Or raped anyone in real life. People who dont like adult mods are the only people who have a problem with it. If u dont like it keep out. Sexlab mod isnt holding you down in bondage unless your talking about your game character. I personally like em because collectively they add more realistic /interesting immersion to the game. Immersion in my opinion that should have been in the game do to the fact that people did get whipped in prisons. Enslaved traded, pregnant. Intimadation submission, did happen in those time eras that the game skyrim is played at. 

 

The false allegation that adult mods feed bad behavior is rediculous. Most games have some degree of violence even the non mature rated games I dont think most people are doing something in real life out of what they soley saw on a video game. I didnt go rape women. Impregant 8 of em kill people because I played a game. Thats retarded. Its a game its meant to just be played. Not to be taken serious like thats what your supposed to do in real life. And if you cant notice that then you shouldnt be playing any video games . You would obviously have some kind of mental disability or issue not tell the difference
