Missing Cave texture

Anyone know off hand what texture this would be? It has been missing for a while now, and I can not seem to track down what it is to get it fixed.

I tried that once, but I was not able to backtrack it to the culprit. It is hard to tell if the item you clicked is the "correct" item (for me anyway) unless you can disable it, and I was unable to get it to disable so I sort of just figured I wasn't hitting the right thing.

Environment maps kind of vex me a little, I am more at home with outfits. ?

That picture is quite hard to make out

It looks like green cave part, in the ck I think its GCave something, but with non vanilla textures and that is the wooden support bit

Need a better lit picture and a wider view...

It's like one of those picture where you have to stare at it for ages to work out what it is, for me anyway

Is that a vanilla cave or a modded one?

I could think of a few reasons, that the cave ...

  • .. is incomplete and has gaps
  • .. has bad setting for the wall element to be displayed/not displayed
  • .. has settings that interfere with a lightning mod

I have some interior mods that suffer somehow from the last 2 possibilities, e.g. "Friendlier Taverns with Baths and Barns"

If it is a modded place, maybe a look into the CK will help you to get down to the cause ?

It's Vanilla. The image is actually from Dustman's Carn the bridges right after the "vampiric giant spider"

I'll try and get a better picture, but it happens in a lot of caves the area in question is actually purple as in not texture at all.

That tells us it shouldn't happen at all ?

Back to ideas:

  • a mod is overwriting your vanilla texture here, but doesn't work
  • vanilla texture got somehow damaged (can that happen? Well, probably yes. It's Bugthesda)
  • something with HD textures? but no USLEEP HD texture fix installed?
  • something with lightning or an ENB that makes the engine belive it has no texture for that object ...

More pictures (all 4k resolution) the first 3 have the zoom in console open clicked on info as suggested by @myuhinny

ENB is Caffeine, I do have HD Textures and USLEEP installed.

One of them is something from real clouds which is odd for in a cave, but this has been going on for a while and I just recently installed real clouds so I don't see how it can be the culprit. But again, and I can't stress this enough, I am a nitwit when it comes to environmental texturing and such. (I'm barely a functional nitwit when it comes to outfits, but I'm really in the weeds with this stuff.)?

Is it a root?

Hard to tell... could be, but it's all smooth and purple so idk for sure. It always appears as part of the lip of an edge or a seem in a wall which are very root like things to do...

Do you use Smim?

Smim edits this mesh I believe. If you use Smim, that simply means that you have the mesh but not the texture. Smim changes the name of that texture.

for mines:

Meshes are in data/meshes/dungeons/mines/cliffs

for caves:

meshes are in data/meshes/dungeons/caves/green/cliffs

meshes are in data/meshes/dungeons/caves/ice/cliffs

The smim texture name is "smim_caveg_DirtCliffsRoots.dds" and "smim_caveg_DirtCliffsRoots_n.dds".

Must be located here:

textures\smim\dungeons\caves\green\smim_caveg_DirtCliffsRoots.dds

and

textures\smim\dungeons\caves\green\smim_caveg_DirtCliffsRoots_n.dds

Check that only if you use Smim.

ok,

Do you use textures pack that use Smim meshes? Like Pfuscher for example?

I am actually going to try installing SMIM to see if it overwrites the missing texture.

You may have to re-enter the area to get the refresh.

OMG i just encountered same problem. Recently installed a bunch of flora/exterior/ENB/textures/weather/lighting mods and patches that goes as one pack AiO, and everything worked and looked fine. But then i was shocked by how much impact this mod pack has on loading reference data. Basically you have a critical limit 800000 unique Ref IDs to load in game's engine memory. Every mod has gundreds to thouthands of unique RefIDs, but only Master files(.esm) loads IDs only when needed right here and right now, in this cell, and avoid bloating this limit. Other mods(ESP ones) are preloading in memory when you load game save file.
This pack(based on Better Lightning and FX + ENB + patches) had ~360000 IDs so it eaten half of engine limit! Considering other 100+ mods has total ~400000. Of course this will soon bring savedata death for any long-term playtrough and guarantees CTDs, infinite loading screens, etc. I decided to make whole bunch of this mod's ESPs into .ESM masters, using xEdit. It worked and i got some free memory space for poor Todd's engine. But after reinstall i think i checked a box that shouldn't check. Some kind of SMIM addon/patch. Got purple cliff borders and edges, definitely missing texture or wring texture path. Damn. Now i downloading SMIM while writing this long and boring explanation.

UPD: yeah, it just works. Thanks for hint marmotte!
