This can happen to a save ive played on before but as soon as i make a new save and try to load that with one of my characters i CTD. Helveticos Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 You tried to clear save with Save Tool ? If u disabled any big mods lately it can be reason of CTD. Clear any latest save and write about results.
Psalam Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 Let's start with something simple. Have you added or deleted mod(s) since you saved the game? That is an excellent way to get CTDs EVEN IF you use a save cleaner like ReSaver. All changes to load order should be made with a new game.

I already had to go back a few saves because it would CTD all the time when trying to save, and i was just playing without doing anything else. Loading an earlier save resolved the problem and it could occur at random again another time. Inserting/removing plugins midplay can bring a lot of problems or none at all. I did this a lot with my saves, you just need to be sure that you're not removing/adding mods that alters much of the gameplay, especially with scripts. A Save cleaner can clean the save of orphan scripts, but sometimes it already got corrupted to a point of no return... A simple example: I was updating two FO4 mods, and i had to load the save without them, then save to install the updated versions. Guess what? Game wouldn't load without the NPC replacer. In no possible way. So, sometimes removing a plugin can just make the game not load... Anyway, if this happened a little while ago, then you can try loading some earlier saves to see which one doesn't have the problem. Because this only happens with this one character, so it's clearly some kind of "data corruption".

Ive done changes mid playthrough. I have tried Savetool but it crashes when i try to load a save with the program.

You can save the game in any moment, but not ALL moments are good for make a save. If other npc is animating, or running a intensive script, is a bad moment for make a save. Sometimes, simply loading a savegame from a week ago, i solve some problems in my game. You can try installing Load Game CTD Fix, but if the problem is caused by mod bad un-installed, i doubt can solve your problem. In last option, if you want continue your current play, knowing that this can end in future severe problems, you can try: 1 - Open your game and load your more stable savegame. 2 - Go to interior unpopulated cell, like brezehome, or any small cave=>kill all animals and let followers out. 3 - Look the wall in first person, try not see any ligth point or torch, and save your game. 4 - GO TO MAIN MENU = This force the game to unload all data and get new data from save game. 5 - Load your game and while look the wall and ONLY the wall, in first person with hands down, of course 6 - Wait 10 days = time for discard dead bodys and similar or wait 30 days for respawn all. 7 - Save your game 8 - Clean your new savegame with ReSaver 9 - Open your game and try load the cleaned save. If this not work and you get CTD on load, forgot all yours old savegames and start a new game.

If none works, it can be a problem in mod order, mod installation, mod configuration ... a lot of things ... But many times it's better to lose the saved game and not waste any more time, trying to recover a damaged saved game. Try loading a saved game a week or two ago, or simply start a new game. Losing weeks of play is a shame, and losing months of play is a pain in the butt, but sometimes it must be done.

I understand what it is, it's just that I have never had the need to jump through that hoop. My game loads normally virtually every time. Every so (not very) often it will piss about but that is usually my fault for uninstalling mods etc.
