Agony, censored to hell

It will be released with an uncensor patch on PC so the game will have its salvation yet.

Yet more fuel for PC gaming elitists is the ability to escape the influence of the other PC with games such as Agony and Conan Exiles outside of closed console systems.

Or maybe not. Perhaps the game will stay true to its name, after all.

If I read this correctly, the company can't "officially" release the uncensored patch. But if someone were able to reverse engineer said patch, they couldn't be held accountable.

I don't even know anything about this game. But I'm opposed to censorship on principle. Too often it's used as a form of societal control, like with the MPAA, PMRC, ESRB, and other alphabet soup groups who effectively control what is and isn't allowed in the mainstream.

As far as I can tell, they downgraded the models in the game, so instead of like 1080+ details, its more like between 480-720 somewhere. They darkened to game to make it harder, took out as much blood and etc, purple blood and blue. half the wall details of bleeding organs, and etc greatly degraded.

UPDATE ! ! ! !

Supposedly they are trying to move the game to GOG.com with full everything and uncensored ! ! ! !

GOG will look that much more appealing as an alternative to Steam if they can manage an uncensored release over there. If GOG poaches a few more such titles from Steam, then Valve may have to rethink their policy if they don't want to lose ground.

Well that's a major let down. I imagine the kickstarter backers must be pretty pissed right now. EDIT: Yup, they're pissed.. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/playway/agony/comments

So I guess I'm in only if the GOG uncut release happens or if the Steam version gets an AO treatment via a mod or the promised and "accidentally leaked" uncensor patch.

Its fairly obvious that no new game will be moddable ever again. And of course GOG will not risk fighting against puritanism - what you see is the dawn of the New Dark Ages, GOG alone can't stop it. No one can now, its just too late.

People wrongly assume that progress is linear and inevitable. This is not true. Just look at medieval savagery which replaced ancient Greek and Roman culture. Highly developed, advanced and free (in comparison to medieval dogmas) - and it was completely destroyed and desecrated. It took many centuries to restore what was lost.

And now its happening again following the same scenario.

Thats not what the medieval era was like at all Nexus.

Most of the shit you're thinking about can be attributed to past said period.

So, whats the controversy exactly?

Iran following the revolution would probably be a better example as would post Taliban Afghanistan, but your point about progress not being linear or inevitable is taken.

The rest might just be a smidge hyperbolic. A few game series or output by some companies will lose the ability to be modded then some indie or middle market game company will step in to fill that void. It will likely just ebb and flow that way.

MadMind did this to themselves, fullstop, and it was inevitable as soon as they put up console ports as a stretch goal which is why I never bothered funding this one.

No console will ever allow an AO game in its library. Ever.

Instead of forking development between an AO kickstarter-key only, an "almost AO" steam release with full disclosure of content to valve, and an M rated console port, they downgraded every version to the same setting that an Xbox 1 could take. No one forced them to do this, they did it themselves.

Then they proceeded to lie about both content and mechanics. There is no combat, the stealth mode only works off of one variable, possession is literally meaningless and isn't even required to progress except for exactly one area.

This game was supposed to have a four year dev cycle and had a two year dev cycle, and they couldn't even hit the right date with that either.

Some of the npc models are literally reconfigured freeware models with stock swapped bodies, and the final lighting is nothing like the demo, so they didn't have to do anything different for each version.

and it takes about three hours to beat, and literally leads you by the nose and tells you exactly what all the things you come across do with no need for exploration or experimentation with mandatory tutorials, and beating the midway boss literally entail running a circle until he gets stuck on something behind and then whacking him with slaps or a stick, cause you know, if there's one thing that will fuck a demon up, it's a scraggly piece of wood.

Literal bait and switch.

Also they have yet to get keys out to anyone whom gave them money via kickstarter through paypal, and the game's been out since tuesday.

Quality through and through.

Yeah, but no, censorship applies to everyone - that's why its censorship.

What if, they are not "Release" it offically, but leak the file as like a mod, or like the Hot Coffee patch but without the file already in game? Kinda like a leaked unoffical expansion patch or something.......

Boobs aside, the game doesn't even look all that interesting.
I mean, it's perfectly possible to get stuck in tutorial for 40 minutes even if you're not Dean Takahashi.

The road to dev hell is paved on good intentions. They really did want to deliver. But they wanted too much. Consoles, bigger, more, etc..etc... In the end it was greed that took them.

This story is as old as Daikatana.

It's actually worth noting that some of them (or at least the ESRB) have come out and said they're completely okay with games that would have an Ao rating. It's for the most part distributors and console developers that restrict these games, making it unlikely for the games to get off the ground.

Now, the perpetual loop of censorship will be the punishment which they receive in Hell for their vice of Greed.
