rennex Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 I have been a die hard MO user for many years. I just saw they released Vortex now, does anyone know how they are different since tannin works on the project?

davisev5225 Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 Until Tannin (or his boss[es]) pull(s) his/their head(s) out of his/their ass(es) and go back to using a virtual file system rather than installing files directly to the game directory, Mod Organizer will always be superior.
xgkf Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 Honestly, Vortex seems like nothing but the same old NMM with a new Windows 8/10 / Mobile App-styled face lift. I was honestly excited for Vortex until I saw that under-the-hood it works the same way NMM does.  Now, that isn't to say that it can't get better over time, or begin to implement the same sort of system that MO uses down the road, but for now at least MO is just a straight-up better mod manager, imo.
Elias_R Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 I get it M.O is like an old jet cockpit for many users but if you want just a few mods then vortex it's ok and works with other games also just clik the link( on the cursed repository NXS) tata mod is in the game . Spoiler Â
NNS10 Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 I imagine the reason behind Vortex's design is that it's the Nexus mod manager, not a Skyrim or FO4 mod manager. Meaning it has to work for the whole host of games on Nexus. Â Obviously when the requirement is that vast, they're need to go with the lowest common denominator that works for all games. So for Skyrim, MO is going to remain the best tailored application for our needs.
Varithina Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 sys link, that should say it all, considering I have had windows own updates (on both windows 7 64bit and windows 10 64bit) kill existing ones, even though windows own manager for them says they are there and other sys link managers say they are there, they have just not worked, and spending 7-8 hours each time it happens to get them working again, no thanks. Â Though for anybody who only uses a few mods, my answer would be use it, it looks easy to use and install which at then end of the day for that sort of user is good enough.
Jinxxed0 Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 I'm pretty they've mentioned that vortex will be customizable to the point where you could set it up to work just like MO with a virtual file system. It can even be customized to install ENBs. idk if its that way now or for the future. Â What I do know is that it's a super alpha release meant for testing. Not people to use regularly. They've stated this like a billion times because they know no one likes to read anything.

From what I remember reading on it, it is for the future at present it is pretty much a nmm replacement, though to be honest with mo2 getting some love and attention I am unlikely to even try vortex.
Jinxxed0 Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 I'll probably just keep using NMM since I already had a set up that I like which has way too many tweaks for me to deal with it. Otherwise i would have switched to MO a long time ago. then I might just use vortex on a separate install or for SSE, but only once it's updated to the point where it's not just a NMM reskin. I'd have to wait any see if I'd end up using MO honestly. It's not really a big deal to me

Tannin is now doing full paid work on that (+) but has a wider scope of games to cover (-) I dicided to not care the slightest as long my calender tells me we have the year 2018. Anyway I've set my alarm clock to wake me at around christmas to see how far he got it. Maybe I decide to try it... but given the wide scope: I doubt that.
