dldude Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Hi, Was wondering if it's allowed to offer some sort of monetary contribution when making a request for a mod feature? I am looking to incorporate features from one mod into another mod and I simply am not at the level to do it myself at the moment. Thanks.
Blaze69 Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 IIRC; as far as LL rules go, you are allowed to make a commission. Meaning, you pay a modder to create the mod you want, and once it's finished, it's released publicly for free (of course, with acknowledgement of you as the commissioner should you want that, etc.). Making it payment-only and requiring other people to pay in order to get the mod as well would not be allowed, for example. But I'm not 100% sure about that, so a moderator would have to confirm this is indeed the site's policy before you do anything else. As for the particular situation you describe, though... There may be some problems, because they way you put it, you would be modifying one mod with assets from another, which would require you to obtain the proper permissions from both mods if they are not explicitly stated already.

Not correct. People cannot ask FOR commissions. (But also here we are soft.) About OFFERING a commission it is 100% OK.

But if such a modification is intended only for personal use (without public access) - then everything should be OK, I think.
Farmthat Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Many well-established skyrim modders have a sort of tip jar on patreon. Whether they'd be open commissions--that's another question--most just want to do what they're passionate about, and the money comes from like-minded folks who just want to support them wherever their creativity takes them. Nobody is close to making a living at this. I don't think there's anyone getting more than low three figures a month. SO, since this is a hobby for everyone, a little extra money isn't likely to be enough motivation to deviate from what they particularly enjoy. I don't mean to discourage you from asking--because your idea might be a good one--maybe the modder(s) in question are completely on board with your suggestion and can't wait to implement what you have in mind. You should just know that people's time is precious and modders have lots of grand ideas they have queued up and it'll be hard or potentially impossible to jump to the front of that queue. Keep investigating creation kit in your spare time, too! There's a steep learning curve, but it's pretty powerful once you get the hang of it.
myuhinny Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 I usually see on the nexus ff a person modified something of someone else's mod if you were to upload it all your file can contain is what you modified nothing else and for them to use your upload they would have to put a link to the original users mod. So they would have to first download the original users mod and install it give them a like for their mod and then use the modified file that you modified to overwrite the original authors file.
Shadowhawk827 Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Gotta agree with Farmthat. It's a steep learning curve at first. It's worth it though as you finally get the hang of things. As far as asking itself... All they can do is say no, right? Then you just ask somebody else. :)
