At last I managed to finish the retextures, I hope they are to your liking, I am not very expert in terms of design if they do not expect a "great masterpiece", but hey, I have retextured +50 variants and also changed certain "fx" files to coordinate with the variants.

This thread is kind of hard to follow. For reference, I tried Astarte's pack, Rebel's stuff, and Dra_lex's download and got confused which was which after staring at them too long, so I reverted all my changes and thought I'd ask here.

 

As far as character artwork "sets" go, Niur seems to have the most completed? I'm hoping to completely sub out the base character art with a sexy variant, as much from the same author as possible for consistency. Town stuff seems to have the same issue. Almost all of the NPCs are swapped except for two or three spots where it's the old ugly character, which is relatively jarring when you're flipping between tabs.

DD's base art is pretty endearing though, so I'd prefer to stay close to it if possible.

Very sorry I actually can't figure out where I got it from anymore, except that it's from somewhere earlier in this thread. My folder full of downloaded mods is a completely nonsensical mess now so I've just made an entirely new folder for things I've downloaded in the past week hehe. Here's the one I found that I'm using:

Also update I've gone a bit crazy trying to play around with things. I -finally- found out how to replace the text during the loading screens, and I also found out that the intro scenes etc. are actually just videos in the 'video' folder'. So like, you can replace the animated cut-scenes with porn vids or hentai clips, or anything! If I had the skills I could also add text to the video and talk about the porn story I had in mind earlier. Just so much to do and omg I'm loving this and having so much fun with it.

Niur does have the most mods.   Some of the older character skins are quite tentacle'd just so you know.   

DO you have access to Nexus adult?    You can find them all over there.   

I have an NPC replacement for every character in town.   Niur did all of them very well with a few different options for individual locations.   They should be here.    ALT + F = Search pages for Niur.

Nice thing about Niur's character skins is how they do not modify the entire class skeleton model.    But the jiggles aren't as fun as Xel's and the Shieldbreaker "Lancer" skin.      

Niur has the best town skins IMO.

I am frequently amazed at how well-optimized this game is for modding.

The part about the videos is what I'm talking about.

Just save whichever one you like the most, rename the image to "loading_screen.old_road". Go to your Darkest Dungeon 'loading_screen' folder, delete the original, and replace it with the new one. Make a copy of the old one first though, just in case.

 

For the rest of the text though, that required editing the game files and that might be causing lots of changes to other game files that I don't know about,. I don't know how much should be shared, and whether it'll cause problems later on, or conflict with other mods.

 

Also is there a discord or anything for this?  Would love to talk to to other modders. P.S. omg DanAlmeny you're amazing ❤️

Hey man, I've self-taught myself a lot about the kinks and quirks of how darkest dungeon modding works. While I wouldn't say I have the prowess to make a full mod of my own, I definitely know how to edit existing files to my liking. If you need any help, please do give a holler and I'd be more than happy to get you in motion!

 

In regards to your query, a change to the localization .txt files does not change anything in and of itself. After your run localization.bat, the game takes all of the .txt string tables and dumps them into "english.loc" (english localization). This ".loc" file is what the game actually reads when it's looking for what text it wants to show in the game, which is why you need to run localization.bat any time you make a change to a string file and want to see the results in-game.

 

Changing localization files shouldn't interfere with any mods, assuming that the mods are either

A) nicely separated from the vanilla content by being under the "mods" folder

B) do not change or introduce any strings that will override the vanilla text

 

I can elaborate more if that would be helpful, but a good rule of thumb for you would be to just go and change the text as you like, and if any of us have mods that may conflict with what is changed, we should be able to identify it so long as you tell us what strings you've changed. Again, I'd love to be of help if you ever need any. You can hit me up on discord if you want to have a DM there or chat over mic for a more expedient exchange of information! I am playing with the mod "Town wars", what bothers me is that there are not many backgrounds so I am doing mine, I like the idea of Elzikyuchi to bring many more variants, at the moment I am seeing how to adapt it, if my problem is that I only have "soft" hentai images, but they do not adapt to the game environment, can someone give me reference pages with art almost similar to the game?

In regards to making your own backgrounds, I'm afraid I do not have my own experience in making them, however, I can tell you what stands out to me.

For starters, try blacking out the eyes of any characters you have. Doing so is already a big step in the direction of DD's artstyle!

Second, work with the background's existing palette. Take this background by KotBasil for example. See how he takes a piece of art that is very un-darkest-dungeon-esc and makes it blend into the image by using the existing color palette? Perhaps try giving that a go as well.

 

 

Here's what I was able to cook up in about 1 minute. What I did was black out her eyes, make her brow a little more pronounced, applied a sepia tone effect, and then dicked around with the saturation and brightness. It's far from perfect, but I think it goes to show that what you do with the image is more important that what you start with.
