Wait for SSE or reinstall oldrim?.

I'm no modder, I just install them so pardon me if this is a stupid question, but is there progress for SSE?.

Skyrim is one of the best games to be a massive perv to, just so much to choose from, but wildly unstable.

I could never get it running right, even without the larger, more unstable mods, so how's it going for SE?, it'd be real nice to have the same/similar mods without the constant crashing.

Is anyone working on SSE?, anything in progress?, are we just waiting for something? script extender maybe?.

Sorry if there is a reason I shouldn't have asked, I'm clueless.

Skyrim SSE will unfortunately not replace old rim since recently the SKSE team reported the release indefinably. And i am also considering getting back to legendary since ENB for SSE are a joke(literally) all essential FX are not there like IBL lighting, SSS, AO, Parallax etc. and Boris doent seem to be very interested in SSE and i can understand her very well.

The trick with legendary edition is to avoid mods with tons of scripts and even trying to avoid any mod with scripts since they are the main culprit behind so many ctd.

Ignore the vocal haters, personally I would never touch Oldrim again for nothing. SSE is in almost every way superior and is a genuine pleasure to play.

I agree completely.  I'm never touching oldrim again.  My SE game is already much more heavily modded than my oldrim game was, performs better, looks better, and never crashes.  All of my "gotta have it" mods have already been ported over or work without requiring one.  There are some SKSE only mods that are on my wish list but I can do without until SKSE64 is out.

I guess everyone has their preferences.  This is plenty to keep me busy for now though

Things I'm eagerly awaiting:

- newer version of CBBE (using oldrim version now)

- newer version of SkyUI (using 2.2 now)

- CACO (using Skyrim Alchemy Fixed for now)

- CCO (using Ars Metalica for now)

- AH Hotkeys or equivalent (no hotkey mod for now)

- sexlab stuff (Flower Girls works fine though)

- Last Seed (instead of iNeed)

- Full version of DynDOLOD

Stuff I'd like to eventually have:

- Immersive College of Winterhold (instead of Magical College of Winterhold)

- Forgotten Magic Redone (Apocalypse is good but I like this one better)

- Simply Knock

- Swift Potion Reborn (Swift Potion loose files edition works)

- some sort of auto harvest that never crashes

- Achieve That

- NPC Knockout Overhaul

- Non Automatic Skill Books (this was already ported and I didn't notice, Yay!)

- Auto save manager (not really required anymore due to stability but still want it)

- Racemenu

- A Matter of Time

- version of Uncapper and Alt - F4 that use SKSE instead of DLL loader

Things I'll probably never get:

- Wyrmstooth

So for me at least, there's not really that much I'm missing.

SSE is great... if you want to abandon 99% of the mods you use*.

* - unless you're one of the few people who has seen all of their mods ported over, but then you weren't using a very interesting mod selection to begin with.

Wow, 99% huh, can you post your mod list from Oldrim? Interesting...

Sorry if there is a reason I shouldn't have asked, I'm clueless.

There needs to be sticky on LL saying:

  • Is SkyrimSE worth?

A: No it fukking isn't, unless you enjoy vanilla experience and no sex mods.

  • Is SKSE64 out?

A: No it isn't and most likely won't appear anytime soon.

  • Is SkyrimSE Stable?

A: Yes it is, but its hard to tell since there are not many *script-intensive* mods ported out, and running SE with 50 followers and 200 armour mods does not means it runs well. Also loads faster than Oldrim, but who doesn't have Oldrim installed on SSD anyways?

  • But Oldrim is less stable than Newrim

A: If you know how to manage your files, and don't go yolo with certain mods Oldrim can be as stable as Newrim.

  • But ENB!

A: Oldrim ENB will never reach the same as Newrim ENB. Says bye to many crucial ENB settings like subsurface scattering or reflections. Reshade is mostly post-processing effects, it does not affect directly in-game Skyrim shaders.

There is nothing agressive in this post towards the OP, no worries.

Link to comment

Personally I would have to disagree with most of the posters here, Legendary edition can be stable. Notice I say 'can', not 'is'. It really does depend on your computer and your mods, but I disagree with the idea that any scripted mod unequivocally causes CTD. At the risk of turning this into yet another argument on stability and scripts, most scripted mods won't kill your game. Yes, some mods with scripts can be bad, one that comes to mind right now is Footprints which attaches a script for every individual footprint if I remember correctly. That will have a discernable effect on performance. Captured Dreams on the other hand does use scripts, but as with so many mod makers who know what they are doing those scripts don't run constantly, so it doesn't have a drastic, "uninstall this immediately and avoid like the plague" effect on your game.

I don't mean this rudely OP, I apologise if it comes across that way, but if your game was constantly crashing even without scripted mods you were likely doing something wrong on your end. It's worth another try if that is the case, because in my opinion the sheer number of mods that don't work for SSE vastly outweighs the added experience of those that do. But I guess that comes down to personal preference.

Link to comment

What it comes down to is whether SKSE dependent mods are crucial to your enjoyment (e.g. SkyUI, MCM etc...), even then I've found SSE to be better for executing mod builds without worry of whether it's going to be stable. Oldrim has more to offer as mods go but I prefer SSE tbh as I've found I'm able to get it to look fantastic with less mods required and it runs smoothly.

Once SKSE is ported over I don't think I'll ever go back to Oldrim.

Link to comment

In the end it just boils down to why you are still playing Skyrim in the first place.

Because you like to roleplay in a medieval fantasy setting? Choose SSE and never look back. Many mods worth having are already ported.

But if you share this mindset and want a rebalanced game to make it all less levelscaled because levelscaling kills all real challenge then there's still only one option if you don't want to install a myriad of rebalancing mods: The Skyrim version of what OOO was for Oblivion, Requiem.

And that means you have to install Oldrim, because while Newrim might have a lot of fancy options for larpers and people who want to improve the story aspects of the game there are still many very important gameplay changing mods that are not ported to SSE.

If you are playing it for the modded in sex simulator (I do, for me the "roleplaying game" somewhere in there is broken as fuck and not very good, the story is a letdown and there are no mods out there that fixed that aspect other than ones offering new questlines that don't make the base game less shitty or complete overhauls like Enderal) then just stay with Oldrim, you don't really have a choice.

Link to comment

SSE doesn't have sex mods at the moment and the ENB is vastly inferior to the classic version. The former issue might change eventually but I wouldn't hold my breath for the ENB.

That's not the worst part though. There are still pretty awful engine bugs in SSE (some of which were already in classic but fixed by SKSE plugins, and also new ones) and unfortunately it looks like Bethesda is done patching the game.

Example 1

Example 2

SSE is superior if you want a minimalist mod list and aren't too anal about having the best possible graphics.

There wont be HDT physics,

BBP and TBBP are not even remotely the same as HDT physics.

Sorry just sorry, stop dreaming or smoking,,

Also please share what your smoking I'd like to be so blazed out of my goard that I actually believe that SSE is better than my modded Legendary version of Skyrim....That'd be freaking awesome.

they had less problems when they had to go back to helgen, with less mods

it's another story a few months later :D

Frankly it seems like sex sim modding for these games has gotten into a sort of cul de sac

The problem is that the intensive modding for Skyrim happened when it was "hot" for several years and tons of people were working with it - both lots of people working on it, and a high demand for product, which encouraged people to work on it.  It's no longer "hot", so the release of SSE, although it offers more potential and probably could be made to be super-spinky-spanky with the same number of peoples working on it as worked on Skyrim in its period of hotness, the same degree of revamping is not going to happen.

It seems that basically if you want to to play Skyrim as more or less just Skryim, then the mods for SSE are good enough for that, but if you want your beautiful, occasionally stunningly hyper-real sex sim, you have to stick with Oldrim.  But I don't think there's much chance now of SSE getting the same detailed degree of sex sim treatment as Skyrim did, or if so, just very, very slowly.

We're probably going to have to wait for the next big hotness from Bethesda for the next intensive period of lots of people working enthusiastically for an enthusiastic audience of players.

The situation for Fallout 4 seems to be roughly similar - there's enough good mods for an enhanced Fallout experience with a bit of added glamour and sex, but there's nothing like the degree of detail, especially for sex simminess, that was created for the earlier Bethesda Fallout games up to NV, and what does get added gets added at a glacial pace because there are only a few people working on these sorts of things, and not the same amount of demand.

Effectively, this means that Oldrim, Skyrim and Fallout 4 are more or less "frozen", because none of them now have enough people working for a big enough receptive audience any more.  Things will no doubt improve a bit here and there, because there are still a few enthusiasts beavering away, but any improvement will come, as I said, very, very slowly.

in all honesty i didnt use many mods with SKSE

the mods i do use are for the most part ported, those that arnt i make personal SE ports and or workarounds to create functionality

oldrim was for the most part fun for me, but SE is is very enjoyable

There ARE sex mods for SSE, I use Flower Girls SE x with its patches for among other things Amorous Adventure and it works like a charm. Recently started using Dolomite Weathers - Natural Lighting Vivid Atmospherics II as well and was blown away by how awesome it made the game look and feel.

And it runs smooth as fuck, no stutters, no crashes, fast loading and no worries. So you could say that there are very few things at the moment that I miss from 32 bit Skyrim.

Link to comment

While I would offer a kingdom for a game engine that doesn't crash left and right as soon as you look funny at it, and while I can appreciate SSE being solid as a rock compared to that utter mess that is the Oldrim engine, at this point it's just not worth it. The problem is really boiling down to pretty much everything we're doing here being created using a script extender that got all but abandoned by its creators and likely will never be available for SSE (or FO4 for that matter). I guess nobody of us saw SSE coming, or that the SKSE team would essentially dissolve. But that's how things are, and why would I bother with a version of Skyrim that cannot even run my own mods?

I guess I'll have to live with the instability. *shrug*
