It can't possibly come out soon enough!!!! I would still be playing the original if it wasn't so graphically dated. I still play a bunch of MTW2 with the LOTR mod installed.

Shogun 2 - the game was good, I just wasn't as interested in the sides.

You're talking about Third Age: Total War right? That's one of the best mods that I've ever played!

And I can't wait for this game as well! I still play the game sometimes, but I use the Rome: Total Realism conversion mod, it improves the game immensely. Haven't really played much shogun 2 in a while though.

Yep. Third Age is what I was referring to. That mod is just freaking EPIC!!! On top of it I have installed several mods adding soldiers and heavily edited the rosters :)

Shogun 2 I too rarely play (haven't touched it since Feb).

Now a mod I do play almost as much as Third Age is ACW (American Civil War) for Empire TW. The level of detail is ... well ... damn near cinematic! When I play I feel like I am watching Gettysburg :)

Shogun 2 is fun in co-op, but bugged like hel ;(

In dawn of samurai we got battle 600 vs 23 000 and it crashed all the time.

About Rome 2.

From trailer and what devs says they aim to make something close to Spartacus serial with that constant plotting and emphasising a single characters. So it will have more RPG elements as anything else before.

It's almost unbelievable how they got places like Minas Tirith' date=' Helms Deep, the Black Gate, and even Rivendell to actually look like what they do in the films!

Empire, while my least favorite, is still a fun game. I'll be sure to try out that mod sometime.

well 23,000+ individual troops IS quite a lot. You'd need one heck of a CPU to be able to play with any success. Plus it's shogun 2, the best looking total war.

That's an interesting approach that CA is taking. For me, as long as they keep the strategy on the campaign map as well as the epic battles, I'm okay :)

I'm glad that they aren't trying to go for an even more modern total war game. Fall of the Samurai took place in the late 1800's and I feel that they shouldn't go any further. I'd be really stupid for them to make a WW1 total war unless they completely redid the mechanics of the franchise, which they shouldn't.

Actually I think CA is looking to Modders on how to create a WWI game. There is a group that have made a WW1 mod and are busy bringing machine guns and tanks into the empire engine. The mod is very cool and can be found on the twcenter site.

That they would do Rome 2 was almost a given in my mind. It was by far the most popular of the games.

Got a friend really looking forward to this, personally haven't played much Total War in a while I logged a HUGE amount of time playing the first medieval total war and I didn't really get back into the series until Shogun 2 which started out strong but multiplayer got ridiculous as they kept releasing unit packs and expansions I wasn't willing to buy. For this game I'd really hope they worked in some improvements to the AI since conquering all but one of an enemy's territories only for his army of 100 battalions to take them all back was a bit annoying.

You can pre order it on steam now... Buttttttttttttttttttttt.... buttttttttttttttttttttttttttt.............. for almost 60€

Ok I'm buying all dlc in TW games but fuck me 60€ for game from start? :(

Posted

Really? I thought the most expensive PC games ever got was £40?

EDIT: Hmn... £45 with the exchange rate. Does anybody remember when games were routinely sold at £30? Those were the days...

Posted

Well they still are exuding COD series and Sims.

for instance

RE:R 29.99 £, Remember Me 29.99£

This is is first tw game that is sold for so surprising high price.

Posted

While I am not thrilled by the 69.99 dollar price tag, I will still preorder this particular game.  I end up sinking a ridiculous amount of hours into playing all of the TW games.  Couple that with extended replay ability due to modding and I can justify the cost to myself.

Posted

It seams that so hight price is caused by "bonus" "free" dlc. It is  Greek free cities dlc and strangely enough they say it is pre order bonus but you can also find it on steam as separate product...

So normal version of game should be cheaper.

Posted

Yesterday the normal price (no specials or discounts) was $69.99 (US) and today the game is $59.99 (US) so.........methinks it was just an honest mistake.........or was it?

Regardless, this game is worth the nearly 60 dollar price tag so much so that I pre-ordered it today.  I still occasionally play the 1st RTW game and I have every single other game they have ever made (including all DLC).  At this point I think I have spent about 1 year of my life playing or modding the games of the TW series......

You and me both, although my favorite in the past years has been Empire. In sheer entertainment value 60 bucks is still a good deal. That's like 3 movies at a cinema, if that.

Posted

Empire FTW! While I've enjoyed MTW II and NapoleonTW immensely as well, I never quite got into Rome. But judging by the previews, it looks quite nice. Although, the 60$/€/pound price tag has me a little worried. Not that it wouldn't be justified, but by experience every game that initally costs more than 50 bucks had some outrageous copy protection tagged on (Diablo, SimCity, CitiesXL, Anno 2070, etc). I just hope that CA doesn't do something similarly stupid.

Posted

Pft... Empire. Bunch of men in red coats and silly hats lining up to shoot each other. That's not a battle!

This is a battle!

If RTW II has anything on that then we're on to a winning start, though I have to say from what I've seen, the unit animations were quite repetitive, and I'd love to see a freeform battle (ie the majority of the one's you'll be playing) as opposed to the scripted ones they've shown. And while I love the "117 factions" bit, I'm not liking quite a few are going to be DLC only.

What's that, 117 factions, one DLC at a time?

Posted

I wouldn't be surprised but I think that they will release some sort of "cultural" packs dlc similar to "The Greek States Culture Pack" that include several factions from same culture.

Posted

I give it 2 months before one of the modding wizards over at TWcenter figure out how to unlock all 117 factions as playable.  It hasn't failed to happen yet with any of the past games.

Posted

Yes they will unlock them, but they can't unlock "faction advantages" or special units for them, because like in shogun 2 they will be add to game with dlc.
