shunter Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 I use Alternate Start to roleplay as someone who isn't the Dragonborn. Can I still play Dawnguard or does it require me to be dragonborn? I haven't played the DLC in years and I don't really know where to look this up.
pinky6225 Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 You can start it all but as i recall to complete dawnguard you need two elder scrolls and one of those you have to progress the dragonborn story line to get (its the scroll that lets you get the dragonrend ability that pre-dawnguard you could sell to the dude in the mages college library) I suppose you could try adding it via console or setstaging the quest but whether that would have consequences elsewhere i couldnt say
Mud Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 You don't need to be on the main questline to get the Dragon scroll. The scroll is obtained as a side reward from Hermaeus Mora's daedric quest, which you just happen to get led to by the main quest but actually has no prerequisites.
Kain82 Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 Yeah, you could do the DG questline without doing any of the main quest. I did it that way.
meme supreme Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 They do have unique dialogue for the player not being Dragonborn yet aswell, so you should be ok.

Yes you can do Dawnguard, but you will be stuck with the Elder Scroll from base game's main quest in your inventory at the end. The orc at the College of Winterhold won't buy it and neither will the DG Moth Priest. I don't like the base game's main quest and I never play it. That means never speaking to the Yarl of Whiterun or doing the Civil War quest line. Otherwise it can be avoided.

You do not need Dawnguard around Dragonborn to play! the elder scroll You will find in blackreach. http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/elderscrolls/images/b/b9/Elder_Knowledge_-_Elder_Scroll_1.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20120530154905

You can just go to Septimus Signus' outpost when you're the right level (or maybe any time, not sure if the scroll quest has a limit or not) but there is no reason why you cannot get out of your start cell, raid some forts and kill bandits to level up a bit, stop by and see Signus to get the two things that unlock the scroll box and get the Dragon Kel before finding Serana, and all without hitting Bleak Falls. If you use Unbound and set yourself as non-dragonborn, and set dragons not to spawn, you do miss out on shouts but depending on your play style you may not use them anyway.
