A collection of script mods and their load

I would like to create list of mods that utilize scripts and list their impact on Skyrim's script engine (Papyrus):

Script-heavy mods aren't necessarily bad or poorly polished. Skyrim's script engine wasn't made for tons of scripts to run and so it is rather limited. A number of tweaks and expansions to the script engine try to overcome the limitations, add new features or make it more stable, but despite that Papyrus only can handle a limited amount of scripts in a given time. When this limit is exceeded Skyrim starts to become unresponsive, crashes or saves become unloadable. (A simple way to measure your papyrus performance is to use the script latency test of Convenient horses).

And even if your game is performing without problems at one moment you can run into serious problems when doing quest with much script action.

So it is wise to limit the amount of mods which utilize scripts and therefore the overall scriptload.

My ideas for the style of the list:

  • The mods shall be ordered into 3 categories, namely lowmedium and high impact (no color means missing information)

  • Only the latest version of a specific mod should be listed.
  • If you find mistakes or a mod changes related to scriptload please report it.
  • Several mods offer options to reduce the scriptload, but for this list i would like to show the "default" impact with untweaked settings. (maybe italic font, if the mod can be tweaked in that regard.
  • If you want to know how the impact of a mod is ask for it to be added.
  • The list isn't limited to Loverslab or Sexlab mods!
  • the list is not about judging mods, it shall only list their specific scriptimpact
  • mods are in alphabetical order
  • if you do not agree about a specific mod tell us!

But now i need your help! Let the hunt begin!

Convenient horses has a really heavy papyrus impact.

It checks continuously for files in the heaviest possible way.

I did tons of tests on papyrus load, and this one was always giving me bad results.

Defeat is really light.

Maria Eden is average (it has peaks of load but on average it is not extreme.)

BB Luxury Suite is heavy (also if you set it to "light" in the MCM.)

And I will add another script based mod: Scent of Sex.

When not active it is zero charge, but when running (depending on the settings) can go from light to heavy (run 64 rules all at the same time in a heavy populated area and it will reach the whole capacity of the papyrus VM. 8 rules, on a low populated area have little impact on the VM.)

So the color should be something like Scent of Sex

Have you looked at this since the update?  Newest version is 6.1 which has some changes.  Just curious, as I've used this one a lot since the update to 6.0 and haven't seen a much in the way of lag/papyrus issues.  Just curious...

I downloaded and tested it just yesterday because people were reporting problems by using it together with my last mod.

And when I started looking on the VM load I was astonished about how often the scripts are run (also if you are outside the cell.)

If you wanna see a quick test, just install SSX (no need to really activate it or create rules), do not install BBLS, and run the performance test in the MCM (The Performance Guy), write the result numbers (in the papyrus log you will get more detailed information if you want better and more detailed results.)

Then install BBLS, go at least once inside the cell, and run the performance test again from SSX (again, do not play any rule.)

You will see a huge performance loss.

and don't get me started on Defeat.

basically this entire topic is so conditional you should just colour them all orange and be done.

That was my point!

You can use whatever mod you like, but some mods are much more likely to produce problems when used together with other scriptintensive mods. So i do think that you can categorize mods that way and for me it is useful to know if a mod is scriptheavy or not. Especially if a mod author does not provide that information.

Furthermore i find it very interesting to get related information from our authors and advanced users and have a place to share it. =)

Cool info.  Personally, I just wanted to try it again after the update to 6.0.  I stopped using it a long time ago for various reasons.  I did see improvement in the newer version (not talking numbers, just an overall "experience"), but that could be also due to improved hardware, mod choices, etc, and not just an update.  I've already stopped using it for a couple new characters (didn't fit with the type of character I was going for), but I'll probably just pull it altogether.  t was fun for a short time but just like before, I got tired of it.  Although I'm keeping the music from the "Dancing in the BBLS" add-on - really like the music.  I added the music to the "home" music using the Personalized Music mod.
