PsychoMachina Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 I got the Explosive Combat Shotgun from a legendary, irradiated bloatfly and I'm having a blast (pun intended). So my question is, "Are legendary weapon drops completely random that is, not consistently from certain enemies?"
Guest MonsterFish Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 From my understanding, most drops are completely randomised but there are certain enemies that consistently drop the same thing (EG Swan always drops Furious Power Fist)
BruceWayne Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Congratulations on winning the game! There is nothing that can stop you know. As for the question, I never noticed a pattern between what kind of legendary enemies drop what kind of specific item. There may be a correlation between player level and available items though. So you won't get an explosive shotgun or overpowered rail gun early on (you might get an explosive double barrel or 10mm though). Edit: As the poster above me points out, some enemies always drop the same items. However, these are fixed NPCs and not the legendary enemies that have a chance to spawn at random.

I keep it at Sanctuary Hills as I burn through shoutgun shells with it. I can't remember where I got mine from
PsychoMachina Posted December 10, 2015 Author Posted December 10, 2015 What I found out, there are 3 types of weapons: Normal, Legendary, and Unique. The Explosive Combat Shotgun is a Legendary weapon because it drops only from legendary enemies. Unique weapons can be bought, a quest reward, or, as in the case of Swan and the Power Fist, consistent from certain enemies. I was hoping to there was a 'system' that, if known, will ensure favorite weapons can be obtained as soon as possible. Right now I'm only lvl 28 so the shotgun will send ghouls flying, but boss-type enemies take some time. Congratulations on winning the game! There is nothing that can stop you know. That could be true, character level plays an influential part in what a legendary enemy drops.
PsychoMachina Posted December 10, 2015 Author Posted December 10, 2015 Maybe certain unique weapons can be obtained from legendary enemies. http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Shishkebab_%28Fallout_4%29 I got the Shishkebab after fighting Slag.

AsariX Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 It's random. I kinda miss that rocketlauncher I got on my first playthrough, which was almost guaranteed to rip off a leg when it hit.
PsychoMachina Posted December 11, 2015 Author Posted December 11, 2015 I have noticed a pattern regarding legendary drops from legendary enemies. Super Mutants/Raiders = armor pieces. Insects = weapons Ghouls = weapons (only fought one and got the Endless 10mm Pistol). This pattern might have been generated for my playthrough so it might not be true for everyone unless someone verifies that the same is happening for him/her. Oh, the Kneecapper Laser Sniper Rifle is crazy. Just fought Swan and the rifle immobilizes him long enough for me to whittle down his health with the shotgun.

I have lot of armors but only few weapons, i dislike fighting anything that causes radiation
D_ManXX2 Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 Ghouls = weapons (only fought one and got the Endless 10mm Pistol). So that is why my ammo was not depleting. so some weapons have infinite ammo now ??

I had legendary weapons from gunners/raiders too. The only thing that influence the drop, if i'm not mistaken, the difficulty and your level. Any type of ennemy can drop any type of equipement. The only exceptions are some named ennemies that drop a specific weapon/armor.
PsychoMachina Posted December 12, 2015 Author Posted December 12, 2015 Well at lvl 22, I got the Kneecapper 10mm from a legendary Super Mutant so.... Ghouls = weapons (only fought one and got the Endless 10mm Pistol). So that is why my ammo was not depleting. so some weapons have infinite ammo now ?? It's not infinite ammo, more like, no reloading animations. You'll burn through what ammo you have.
jzc136 Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 I don't remember the location's name but it's North West of Diamond city, across the river. Anyway, in this building there is a blind super mutant who once he detects you, he triggers the alarm and 5 super mutants spawn. Now what was interesting about this is that the first time he triggered the alarm one of the Super mutants was legendary and had a mini gun which shot green energy, needless to say I died in less than 5 second and I had a power armor... so I reloaded to try again, but the next time none of them were legendary. So I tried again, and a legendary spawned but with a different gun. Anyway, after one hour of continuously kill the legendary and reload just to trigger the alarm and causing the super mutants to spawn again, I noticed that I had around 75% chance of spawning a legendary evertime the alarm was trigger, I never saw the mini gun again, but I noticed the legendary only dropped chest, right arm, wood board and 10mm handguns; I only saw a shotgun and mini gun once. Every single time the enchant was poison damage, no reload, frost damage, less damage when falling and less damage when running; the shotgun had 50% increase damage against super mutants. I also noticed that if I went back to the save prior to entering the building, no legendary would spawn, no matter how many times I trigger the alarm, also changing the difficulty didn't affect the chance a legendary would appear. From all this, I can conclude: - the chance that a legendary spawns is decided when the cell is entered - once the chance has been set, changing the difficulty has no impact as far as I can tell, even if the enemies have not spawn yet. - it seems that loot drop properties (enchant and weapon type) are decided when the cell is loaded, and there is a high chance that certain enemies only drop certain weapons/armors, although there is a very small chance of getting another weapon/armor type or enchant, but it's extremely rare.
Guest MonsterFish Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 The name of the place you're talking about is Fraternal Post 115 and the super mutants name is deadeye. He doesn't drop anything in particular except for his unique eye rag that Strong can wear. Interestingly Fraternal Post 115 is the place where the Male Sole Survivor was meant to give a speech to at the beginning of the game.
RustyXXL Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 If you take a look at the leveled list you'll see that it's pretty much random, apart from the special enemies that drop specific stuff. Some things are locked behind level requirements, the highest one being lvl37 for the legendary gatling laser.
PsychoMachina Posted December 12, 2015 Author Posted December 12, 2015 Now that is an idea for a mod, removing the level list requirements so that there is a mixture of different level enemies. I know I have encountered a few that were higher level than me (skull next to their title) and I either died or barely if not for the help of Strong.
JarlBallin' Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 I think they are usually completely random. I got a Explosive minigun so I can kill a Deathclaw in about 1-1.5 seconds.
nIn nIn nIn Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 The Spray & Pray SMG takes down a Deathclaw in 5 seconds. I don't carry anything else at the moment, apart from a handful of frag grenades.
abeman Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 The Spray & Pray SMG takes down a Deathclaw in 5 seconds. I don't carry anything else at the moment, apart from a handful of frag grenades. i think its one of the best weapons in the game, not sure if explosives-perk affect its damage but it seems to just melt everything i encounter. Just recently i founded explosive assault-rifle so i switched to that. Only problem is that i seem to explode my own hands off when enemies get too close
Sacremas Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Explosive bullets is pretty overpowered first 20 levels, then 20-30 it's like a little bonus, and then 30+... meh. I currently have a minigun with explosive bullets and at level 35 it still takes a lot of shots to kill normal super mutants. Spent probably around 500 bullets killing a deathclaw. And this is on normal difficulty, not Survival. Note that I'm not perked up in automatic weapons, but explosive is like +150 % damage on a minigun so all perks on automatic wouldn't be a larger damage boost on a normal minigun than explosive was. For shotgun my favorite is a double barrel that fires an extra shot, I want to mod that to have four barrels in appearance. Spread is so massive it's basically a melee weapon if you want to focus on one target but insane burst if you can survive getting close enough. I can aim half a meter to the left of a ghoul that's 3 meters away and I'll still splatter the ghoul, so yeah basically a handheld grenade with a cone shaped blast. I've found that enemies tend to drop things that can kill that type of enemy easier. If I get legendary weapons from a super mutant, it's usually a anti-mutant gun, same with ghouls and insects. As for some dropping more of armor or more of weapons, I've found armor off insects and weapons on raiders (very early on a legendary raider gave me an irradiated pipe rifle which I modded for max smg, doing +50 rads per shot, destroyed things pretty good), I just think the drop ratings are slanted towards one way or another in weight, with armor more often to drop than weapons and enemies that can give you rads having a greater chance of dropping good items.
abeman Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Little off topic but relevant to legendary-perks: minigun is rather underwhelming and/or bugged, i have maxed heavy weapons and automatic weapons and i do 20 damage+burning with ashmaker compared to 91 damage of assault-rifle, its got about 50% better firerate but still it has about 1/3rd of firepower compared to assaultrifle, add to that how much armor would effect and poor accuracy of minigun... i did little testing and when i shoot to the ground beneath me with explosive assault rifle, i take total of 54 points damage to my legs so 27 per leg without any armor. So i believe explosive-perk do double that original 15point damage from legendary-weapon. i quess someone could test how many bodyparts explosion would effect from a single shot to the torso for example? Im at level49/ normal difficulty/ fully upgradet explo-assaultrifle / explosive+automaticweapons-perks and killed normal deathclaw with 9 bullets. Alpha deathclaw with less than 20 bullets (dodged some). so with that firerate+80round magazine i feel pretty confident hmmm could i make pistol+automatic+explosive-perks build to have some godly auto-pistol since atleast heavyweapons+explosive-perks stack?
Guest MonsterFish Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Miniguns tend to have a weaker damage but a much higher ROF, so your DPS will be better than 90. There's another idea for a mod, showing DPS rather than actual bullet damage. You know, like they did in FO:NV. Bear in mind that the assault rifle also has a higher accuracy than a minigun, so you'd have to actually get really close to get all the bullets to hit to have a higher DPS.
