Myst42 Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 I'm on the mood for a bit of pseudo-philosophical sharing so... I got thinking about the evolution of our society and where we are going I'm an avid comsumer of fantasy and fiction, I love movies and reading, serves to say my mind has been programmed to "anticipate" development of events thanks to those habits. (Yeah, it works in real life too with everyday situations) But what I've been seeing so far on one side confuses me and on the other worries the hell outta me. Let's start with apocalyptic futures. Apocalypse has been called countless times already. Whether it's a meteor, a black hole, the exploding sun, world war III, a plague, rising of the machines or the zombie apocalypse... By the way I guess you guys know all of them are almost entirely possible given what we know now, but odds according to scientists are favoring "Fallout", a plague or "Terminator" (Yeah there's a whole movement of them, led by Stephen Hawking himself trying to stop AI development) I forgot to mention aliens, but my personal belief leds me to think aliens have been here for millenia, if they wanted a war humanity would've lost it already. But the thing that's really happening contrary to popular belief... nothing. Nothing at all I dont know what sorcery is still keeping society in one piece, but somewow.... it endures. Which brings me to the next setting of things, which are either slow apocalypses ot dystopian futures. Sadly the two which seem to be gaining strength are: Planet exhaustion: in this scenario, we're running out of resources, oil eventually runs out causing the first problems of our oil-based society, economic collapse follows. Pollution levels are extinguishing all kinds of life form slowly, food becomes scarce, air becomes bad, water becomes poisoned, the process already started and climate changes causing disaster level events worldwide, a sandstorm in a snowy country is not so rare anymore, human population just keeps growing, economy is not enough to sustain this many, above all the greatest symptom is starvation. Govenrment Domination: from the looks of it, it also already started. This could be a topic on it's own as it begins with the increasingly diminishing boundaries of people's freedoms. Internet is not a free place anymore. Forget about free stuff. Paid mods? that was just a glimpse. Government institutions know everthing you are just by looking at your internet history. Everything you are, credit cards, numbers, that's what you become. On the bright side, education/sumbliminal indoctrination programs have already taught you to be a sumbissive sheep, slave to consumerism, always waiting for the next iphone, taking selfies and convincing yourself you are free. Real social interaction becomes obsolete as people dont talk to each other anymore even in the same room because everything is done via cellphones and social media. Life is no longer about being happy, it's about how many likes can you get. Piracy, illegal AND borderline porn and political speech is forbidden, even on the darkest internet corners. Speak wrong and you get dissapeared. I'm not only talking about "major crimes" here, I'm also talking about the average folk who happened to download an "illegal" program, they dissapear too. Individuals who dont fit the agenda are eliminated with extreme efficiency and some are made a public example for more programming and more hate to unite sheep under one banner. Grim enough? So tell me LL fellows Any thoughts of your own? Any ideas to how do we stop this? Can we, even?
Zerosleepless Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 Well it's strange to say but I've never been particularly pessimistic about humanity's future , strange as it may sound. I know many people are dissatisfied with the current state of things , and this , coupled with the presence of certain actual threats may lead many to believe that humanity's future is dark , and some even take pleasure in thinking about doom and apocalypse, because it would fulfill some sort of fantasy or because they aren't satisfied with their personal life and want to believe that all life has no importance and is doomed. As an atheist i believe that nothing happens after you die , you just cease to exist , therefore i am not really interested to what happens to the rest of humanity after i die . But should some sort of doom befall humanity , i'm not so certain it would be because of zombies or Bog Brother or anything as far fetched is that as there are far more pressing issues at hand , i will spare you the enumeration .
RitualClarity Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 I forgot to mention aliens, but my personal belief leds me to think aliens have been here for millenia, if they wanted a war humanity would've lost it already. Yep.. In all seriousness on that subject. Imagine a race that has the tech to get here from wherever they are. cross the universe whatever. That is some pretty heavy tech. In order to survive that they would have to have tools that we don't have or could even imagine. It would be like a hunter going to some forest and hunting some animal. The animal almost always looses regardless of its capabilities because the hunter always is more advanced and has the tools to do the job. If there are aliens and they have been here (are here) they likely would be doing exactly what anthropologist are doing with many of the Indian tribes in South America... except more advanced. The are monitoring our development. They likely don't want to interfere with our development (or they have a rule against it like Star Trek's Prime directive). I doubt they would be any cause of the end of days. However if their government(s) crumbled or there was a rebellious element that wanted to exploit primitive races they that is still an option.

Miss conceptions... There is more likely a chance for some space virus/bacteria getting introduced into our ecosystem with various countries popping various ships and not private individuals doing so as well.
Kendo 2 Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 I'll go with #2. People are getting dumber with each generation, though they think they are smarter. Humanity is not at its best at this point in history. Despite what Millennials think, they are not at the apex. They are the future, this is true but they are not the best of the best like they think they are or what they were told by their parents, or their 'everyone gets an A for effort teachers'. They voted for Obama. That shows they can’t be trusted. #1 might happen but it won’t be at the hands of mankind the way vain liberals think it will. Our little ball of rock named Earth floats in vast solar system that will cycle through phases just like anything else in the universe. ‘Global Warming’. Yeah. Mankind is responsible. Sure, why not? As long as liberals get their global carbon tax so we all sit in the dark every night and ride bicycles everywhere they’ll be happy. I have news for these people; the ice caps on Mars are shrinking. Sorry tree-huggers and Al Gore, but no one is driving SUVs on fucking Mars. This is also happening on some of the moons around Neptune and Jupiter. The outer planets are also brighter now. That’s because the whole solar system is heating up, not just Earth and not just because there are coal fired power plants and people driving cars. Look at the science and get a fucking clue. Most likely imo, #1 will cause #2 and then #3 (wars for resources) will finish the job. And it doesn’t matter. 550 million years ago there was a little thing called the last Cambrian Extinction. It killed almost everything on the planet. Oh yeah, that happened four times during the Cambrian period and humans weren’t around to cause it. Go figure. Then there was the Permian Extinction that wiped out a bunch of dinosaurs. Humans weren’t around for that one either. Anyone see a pattern here? Oh, then there was the Triassic Extinction that finished the job on dinosaurs. Humans missed out on that one too. This is the vanity of people who think humans are ‘the shit’ and we are the end-all-be-all of evolution. Humans won’t be responsible for destroying the planet. We might kill ourselves off but the ball of rock we live on will still be here. And 20 million years after we’re gone intelligent cockroaches will go to little roach museums and look at our rigged petrified bones the way we look at dinosaurs today. It’s inevitable. Al Gore can’t stop it, green liberals can’t stop it; any more than trilobites could stop the last Cambrian from happening. All green liberals can do is make what life humans have left more miserable with their vain and ignorant tree-hugging bullshit. And I agree aliens don’t care about conquering us. They wouldn’t have waited until we had nuclear bombs and lasers. They would have done it when we were still stabbing each other with sharp sticks and hiding in caves.

Aliens are just sitting up there laughing at some of the logic that Humanity is using.. It is a comic side show. A sad side show at that.
Kendo 2 Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 I like how you said "If aliens exist..." Is that more misinformation to hide the truth? And how do you type with those suction pads on the ends of your fingers sticking to the keyboard?

I let that slip..

bjornk Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 Why don't we just talk about kinky future scenarios instead? None of us can change the future, but we can still fap to it.
Myst42 Posted October 25, 2015 Author Posted October 25, 2015 I completely agree on certain ponts First, I'm also sick of people believing humanity is "the shit". Whether you're a religious zealot or an atheist one, this zealotry has one thing in common. The belief we as humanity "know everything there is to know" and have "achieved the pinnacle of evolution" Fuck dogma, and guess what, true science is devoted to investigating and discovering what we yet dont know First scenario I called planet exhaustion. My point being, regardless of who started it (screw politics), (and I'm also not so sure about true climate change being caused by humans), the system is falling out of balance. Under some conceptions of pseudo-philosophical biology, the planet itself is a living organism, and climate change could be a way of fighting a disease just like fever. Besides that, the greatest coming threat on this point is like I said, starvation. Increasing population is just not sustainable anymore. From this point, things could also course like Kendo said, war for resources. If that doesnt happen, idiocracy has still it's chance. Selfies everywhere. I think true "zombie apocalypse" started and humans lost. Just look at all those brainless teens out there. And Ritual, that's also my thought Humanity must be some kind of amusement park, plaything, farm, zoo or reality show to them aliens. Most people think it's a joke and laugh about it, but have they objectively analized the fundaments behind the conception of aliens being here before? I have. And starting from the basis that this universe is large enough fo us to drop out fantasies that life only happened here, everything sounds entirely possible, from pyramids to extraterrestrial influence in modern culture. Just wish there was something we could do to "change the course of hings" "wake up" and "start living more balanced lives" But apparently that's a personal choice and beliving society can "change" is delusional thinking. From the looks of it, everything is bound to fall apart and it will be up to this "exctinction event" survivors to decide where the thing goes from there Unless from some magical mystery, we manage to bypass economic collapse and starvation and the USA governement will still rule over all the world thanks to the power of information, ridiculous approved laws, media control and submissive sheep. All hail our new overlords! --- Fap Never solved anything but It's a valid way to escape I guess...
