Justoutthere Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Not sure why you picked on the UK but as a resident of that fair country I have never felt my privacy to be unduely impinged upon except with regards to a little "nanny state" attitude towards internet accessibility. The article you linked to (first one) has a very telling line right at the end: Cannataci was chosen for the role after the first-ranked candidate, the Estonian Katrin Nyman-Metcalf, was blocked on the grounds that "she would not be a strong enough critic of US surveillance." This would suggest to me that the purpose of this was a witch hunt rather than a proper balanced investigation as they deliberately chose someone who would be a strong critic i.e. has already made their mind up and will find evidence to support that idea.

No guns (well, unless you can find a state that still allows you to have one without undue checking into "who are you, what's your life history, what are you likely to do in the near and distant future based on stats?" (good luck there), cash only, no income tax reports. Make your own weapons (crossbows, spears, etc), and learn to live off the land. Lots off work, little reward. Other than, of course, the ability to say when you die "I lived my life the way I wanted to live it, and there wasn't a damn thing the establishment could do to change that because they didn't know I existed."

Uh, but I'm already living my life the way I want....well, ok, maybe I'm not living in a space ship and I don't have mind control powers, but that dream was unrealistic anyway. Maybe there are some people who would actually enjoy living in the woods and being completely self-reliant, for the sake of that alone, and not because they are paranoid nutjobs, but I think that is a very very small group of people. If instead they are giving up everything they enjoy and living a hard life with no fun just to escape something that wasn't having any effect on their life in the first place, well then that's not really living life the way you wanted, is it? If anything it's more like letting the "establishment" win and letting them tell you how you live. I actually do live my life the way I want, because I don't let paranoia get in the way of my happiness or doing what I enjoy, and I think that's a little better than pooping in a hole and chasing squirrels with sticks.

You never know when they'll call you a terrorist, especially when you have opinions and ideals that conflict with the government. But I don't care, people always get what they deserve.
