Favorite Obscure Mod?

Along the same lines of the earlier thread I did about the mod we couldn't live without, what's a mod you love but nobody's likely heard of or seen?

One of my favorites along those lines is "Tailoring" by Buckles.  Only on the Steam Workshop unfortunately.

The mod allows you to gather up the old linen rolls from draugr tombs and / or Tundra cotton and turn that into usable cloth.  There's also a dye making crafting system similar to alchemy.  Once you have the dye and fabric, you can craft any non armor piece of clothes in the vanilla game, even the unique items like the Archmage robes.   Anything you tailor is unenchanted, but capable of being enchanted.

Off the top of my head after an all nighter agh,

This one's not totally obscure but it sure doesn't have a lot of downloaders or endorsements.

Specailized Followers.

It re-tunes the Vanilla Followers to have some unique abilities.

House Carls get a knock-down shield bash and a once every 10 minute full heal.

Companions actually can transform into Werewolves and wreck some havoc.  Aela the Huntress can also summon Wolf Packs.

The follower that almost became a Hag, she can transform into a Wasp Swarm.

Janesse the Rogue you find in the Huntsman, she can turn invisible and then backstab someone.

Most of the mages have carefully selected spell lists that really help their behavior and a few extra scripted effects.

I honestly haven't seen all of the special stuff but its always more interesting than just smacking ASIS perks on Followers.

----------

The trouble is that for your average user they want pretty females but don't know how to make a patch like I do so its one or the other.

If you know how to make a patch its well worth the time.

There is a Legendary Edition that cam out recently that includes changes to every vanilla follower in all DLC's.

Its one of the better mods that you know makes Vanilla Followers cool.

-----------

It works well with

Ultimate Combat Overhaul

Combat Evolved

ASIS

Those will pretty much make your Vanilla Followers actually wreck stuff legit like the player can.

After those followers fight better, have their own special power, and can use pots and items.

Caribou Gone, the only mod I use that messed with or adds trees or greenery. I never hear it mentioned, never see its trees in other peoples' screenshots, and I wonder why because it's really great.

The only thing it does that lore purists more hard-line than me might not like is it adds a forest to the Reach, and a pretty thick one at that.

It's not without its problems, though. I'm reasonably sure it's the source of some consistent repeatable crashes in the Reach, and it does something odd to the ground in one little but really obvious spot near Whiterun. I keep meaning to track down the issues but since I know pretty much exactly where the crashes are, I just avoid those areas (there's like two or three total) and the Whiterun thing doesn't bug me for whatever reason.

Storage Helpers

It has a number of features, but I use it to turn wearable bags into actual containers. The weight of the bag container is also dynamic based on what's inside. It's nice to be able to throw all your non-essentials into a separate bag and either leave it at the inn or on your horse.

Draugnarok

This is like a zombie apocalypse mod, but with Draugr instead. It has the best spawning system I've seen out of these types of mods. Real shame it didn't get more exposure--the modder probably would've expanded on it if it was more popular. I advertise this mod every chance I get.

NPCs can craft

This is like "I don't want to be a blacksmith" except more fool-proof, as users can manually adjust NPCs to make sure they are registered correctly as a blacksmith / alchemist / etc and at the right mastery level. Second improvement over "I don't want to be a blacksmith" is the player doesn't need to provide standard smithing materials. The blacksmith has those, so the player doesn't need to lug those materials around. Ironically, this mod does a better job of freeing players that "don't want to be a blacksmith."

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/63354/?is a mod I recommend if you played the previous Elder Scrolls games and want the class/birthsign (kinda) system back. It also gives differences between males and females which can be further enhanced by making playing a female a lot harder such as doing 20% less damage so there is a constant danger of dying if you don't use your advantages.

Definitely looks good.  How is it on system resources and compatibility?

This is an oldie, but a goodie... http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/1356/? and http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/57433/?. I always hated the constant "extra glow" on enchanted weapons and armors when you equipped them. These two mods remove that shader effect. Your weapons still display the enchantment effect on the blade or whatever, just not the pesky "extra glow". Just an aesthetic choice.

N~dles

EDIT: One other great one that I really enjoy using: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/16137/?It's a simple mod that lowers the 'fist' when you have nothing  equipped in a hand.

Survive the Night and Truly Undead - Reborn

"Survive the Night" makes Skyrim feel a bit like "Amnesia" where you go to certain light sources or safe places like towns and cities to restore your sanity level.

The more time you spend in the dark, the more your character gets scared and eventually will go insane and starts to hallucinate.

"Truly Undead - Reborn" makes the undead like skeletons, draugrs and vampires to keep returning back from the if you killed them. You can only kill them with whatever feature is in the MCM menu such as Restoration Spells, Fire or Soul Traps (and such).

I mainly use these two mods to make Skyrim a little bit more interesting.

Rail Light, alternative to the popular Face Light.  To quote its author, Face Light is like shining a flashlight on the character's face while Rail Light aims to emulate lighting on a movie/TV set.

Pro: definitely something screen archer should try.

Con: awkward for game play, may be fixed/improved if/when the author releases version 4.0.

I honestly can't say. I don't pay attention to what resources it takes up. My machine isn't a spring chicken though, haven't upgraded a thing besides RAM since it was built in 2010, so I can't imagine it's too bad. If you can tackle vanilla Skyrim maxed out, this mod should be perfectly fine. But I'm an ENB-less heathen, so if you're running more with it, I can't make guarantees.

I don't really use anything that's been terribly incompatible with it either. So far, aside from the problems I mentioned in my original post, the only noticeable conflict is with Hearthfire, though that may just be the Lakeview Manor pool mod I had installed too. It's pretty minor, just two or three floating trees in that one little area. The Whiterun oddity is far worse - it's right near the main gate. The terrain dips for no reason.

Frankly the more I think about it the less I could recommend it. The Reach crashes are predictable but frequent enough to be frustrating if you haven't memorized where they are. But lemme tell you, if you can grit your teeth and bear it, it's really... really... pretty. And most of what it adds is sensible and not overbearing - only the Reach is heavily forested by this mod. Other additions are in relatively small regions that were pretty barren or boring otherwise. It's not for everyone, but it's definitely got its pluses if you can deal with it.
