Has a movie,book,anime,manga, tv show or videogame plot ever gotten a real emotional response from you?

I have gotten involved emotionally in some series, and at times in lengthy or well-written movies and been legitimately mad as hell at various character's or incident's, or really freaking sad.

 

This thread will likely be full of spoilers, I know this post in particular is so bear (bare?) with me.

 

 

Dragonball Z

 

 

 

Oh boy.... there's a lot. Mind you, while the plot isn't necessarily "deep" I did watch it all at like 8 years old.

 

1: Frieza killed Krillin. I know I channeled my inner Goku rage because my family will never let me live down screaming at the TV.

 

2: Cell Jr's beating everyone up and Gohan was being a little bitch. I was so pissed at Gohan. Like seriously, SAVE YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS YOU LITTLE BITCH

 

3: Vegeta's explosion didn't kill Buu. Not only did I almost cry when Vegeta gave his heartfelt farewell and suicided for the sake of everyone else, I was vehemently pissed at Buu for not dying.

 

 

 

 

Elfen Lied

 

 

I wanted to cry on nearly every episode. Do we even need specifics? This show touched on child molestation, the life of the main character is extremely depressing, it's just the absolute saddest thing I have ever seen and I couldn't stop watching.

 

 

The Walking Dead

 

 

 

Oh god. This show... (or Comic, but I haven't read the Comic of it)

 

1: I was pissed at the Governor when he decided to go back to being a prick instead of just being the nice man he turned into in the 2nd half of uhhhh Season 4 I believe, or maybe it was season 3. When he grew his hair out. He was such a nice character and he went and turned evil again. Hell of a fucking character, though, best villain on TWD.

 

2: Merle's death. It would've been enough to just have Daryl find him dead, but no, THEY MAKE HIM KILL HIS OWN ZOMBIE BROTHER. Seriously, when Daryl cries, I cry. Fuck that shit. Omg.

 

3: Hershel's death. Seriously? Everyone had guns pointed at him, and NOBODY SHOT THE GOVERNOR BEFORE HE DECAPITATED HERSHEL!!!???!?! >_<"

 

 

 

Dexter

 

 

 

So many things in this show got to me. I got so deep into the mind of the character of Dexter, even though he was so emotionally turned off I swear I felt all of the emotions he should've felt.

 

The big one that comes right to mind has to be Rita's death.

That was just ridiculous and I believe it was the cliffhanger season finale that season as well.

Okay, the plot is so basic and stupid and dull but I couldn;t help but be pissed the fuck off that Rais makes you kill Jade. Fucking prick. I wish the fight with him wasn't a QTE so I could personally lop his fucking head off.

 

 

 

Metal Gear Solid

 

 

 

This is totally a game for 10 year olds.

Yes, my fragile psyche can handle the emotional buttfuck that is about to ensue over the course of 2 discs and an amazing storyline.

 

 

Sniper Wolf's death, even though it TOTALLY HAD TO HAPPEN, made me sob like a little bitch.

 

The messed up ending where you don't get Meryl. :'( I still hear Snake scream "MERYYLLLLL" 

 

I had a legitimate hatred for Liquid Snake.

 

 

 

 

MGS 2: Sons of Liberty 

 

 

 

Another lovely game for a young teenager, no?

 

While obviously every character's backstory and eventual death is very heart-wrenching, none were more difficult than Emma Emmerich's. 

I screamed at the TV soooo much.

Snake is the Superman of soldier's, and Otacon is a god damn genius. 

THEY COULD HAVE SAVED HER. UGH.

 

 

 

 

MGS 3: Snake Eater

 

 

 

The Boss' death, her entire story, I just couldn't hold back.

The woman was hailed as the greatest hero of her time, and in order to protect her country she threw all of that love away. She aided the enemy, she fought and nearly killed her own student, she basically cut ties to everyone and labeled herself a terrorist... AND THE ENTIRE TIME IT WAS ALL FOR HER COUNTRY'S SAKE. She put everyone before herself, she took the bullshit that came with what she had done, and did not even flinch... Seriously one of the greatest characters in all of gaming, hell in all of written/scripted media.

Her death deserved my tears.

The Walking Dead

 

My jaw was on the floor the whole last fifteen to twenty minutes of the episode "The Grove". "Look at the flowers, Lizzie." Holy crap.

I actually teared up during the first movie when Ash (Satoshi) turned to stone. I'm not ashamed to admit it. Shit was sad, man.

Finding happy anime and manga is pretty easy, I could name several dozen of those. These are some of the darker things I have watched / read:

 

Anime:

Elfen Lied was pretty brutal and harsh, I watched it once but have not watched it again.

Gunslinger Girl pulled a lot of different emotions from me, season 2 was better but still had some difficult spots. The manga series was rough, especially the ending.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica was a dark, depressing story wrapped in cuteness.

 

Manga:

Life was probably the toughest thing I have read but the end was worth it. It is not something to read if you are depressed.

Koizora (Sad Love Story) was almost as hard as Life was to read, didn't help that I was seriously depressed when I read it.

Bioshock Infinite - Burial at Sea 2:

 

Maybe the most disturbing scene in any video game I've ever played, you know which one I mean, when you played it, lobotomy time Oo

I was disgusted and grossed out and not able to watch at the screen. It had a lasting effect on me...

 

 

Steins;Gate:

 

They really pulled off to show how much Okabe suffered while trying to save Mayuri, how it tormented him, his isolation and his determination to try again and again. I can't remember if I shed some tears when he nearly broke down under the pressure, but I wouldn't be surprised if I did.

 

 

Persona 4:

 

The whole scene after you save Nanako and confront Namatame in the hospital was brilliant. Although I knew something was not right and Namatame not the mastermind, I was filled with real anger and tempted to throw him into the TV, even though I was sure he tried to save her, not hurt her... it didn't matter at that moment and I had to pause for a few minutes just to calm down. A strange thing and I can't think of another game that achieved something similar.

 

 

Overall I'm someone who gets easily emotional, but those are the three examples that popped into my mind, because of the emotions they evoked and the way they achieved it.

I CANNOT watch Elfen Lied. I got into, like, episode 3 and had to stop. Couldn't handle that. I like dark stuff sometimes, but DAYUM. Unclean, unclean... *rocks in the corner, fetal position*

 

Let's see, one's that elicited an emotional response...This is actually harder than I thought.

 

Sailor Moon:

 

I was probably...11 when I saw Sailor Moon S, Japanese episode #110: "Death of Uranus and Neptune? Talismans Appear". It's the only episode I've seen in Japanese, thanks to a friend. And god damn, was I screaming at the TV for that one. Oh, that violin piece - THE FEEEEEELS.

 

 

The Last of Us:

 

Dat ending, bro. ;o; When Joel finds out what they plan to do with Ellie. And then how he covers it up when it gets her out...HRNNN. Hold on a sec... *sniggle*

 

 

Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core:

 

This one always makes me feel so silly. The end of the game - that climatic final few minutes...It seems so stupid - we know what happens to Zack, and yet, you try fighting off the waves of enemies with all your might, like you're going to change history. But you don't - you can't. You must succumb to the truth...and die...

Then Sword Art Online:

 

End of Seasons 2 - Creepy McCreeper-Rapepants, known more formally as Sugou Nobuyuki. I had been hooked by the series, only to have this fuckwit thrown at me. NO. Just NO. I'm still pissed what he got in the end - he deserved far worse.

 

 

 

 

I'm sure there's a lot more. I watch a lot of movies, and saw a lot of anime back in the day, so it's hard to sift through them all in my memory.

Not going to go into spoilers because there's just too much to list. Most of these I started reading as a child and grew with them.

Just off the top of my head, these are the ones that stab me in the heart when I think about this question.

 

Books:

• Elfquest. I got my hands on these hardbounds when I was... 11, 12.. Cried my eyes out and still do. They were my aunts so I didn't get to keep them. The boyfriend       surprised me with 6 comic editions recently and made me cry. <3
• The Darktower series. Every book I was bawling about something. First discovered at 12. Finally read the last one at 35.
• The Eyes of the Dragon. My first introduction to Stephen King madness at 12.
• The Girl who Loved Tom Gordon. Just have to read it.
• Acorna series. 
• Dragonriders of Pern. Every book had something heart wrenching in it.
• 77 Shadow Street. Terror and sadness all wrapped in a big bind.
• It. (Book not the movie) Need I say more? The friendships were amazing.
• Hobbit and LOTR (Again, books, but movies ripped at the heartstrings too Except for the Hobbit movies. That was just a frickin' travesty) I've got my grandmothers editions from the 70's.
• Harry Potter series. My daughter fell in love with those books and I read them too. Yus, I cried.
• Twilight series. My daughter is to blame again. Books, the movies frickin' SUCK!

 

 

Animation:

• Elfen Lied. Oh the feels.
• Seikon no Qwaser. Funny, goofy and erotic but oooh the feels.
• Anything and I mean EVERYTHING from Hayao Miyazaki. That man can tell a story.
• Danish version of the Little Mermaid(The original story). I died a little inside.
• Claymore. 
• Ghost in the Shell.
• Gundam: Unicorn. I never really had an interest until the boyfriend showed me that one.

There's a monument in World of Warcraft. It's been there for a long, long time and it isn't advertised but its really sweet and sad.

 

I'm just a big bag of feels. I can get emotional over some commercials. If a movie can't tug my heartstring, it wasn't good at all.

Clannad After Story: It was my first anime that made me shed tears and one of the few that i can rewatch in one go.

School Days: Made me feel empty for quite a while and swore to never watch it again.

DBZ & Yu-Gi-Oh: relive those childhood memories and still saying the same thing when i rewatch those.

As a MGS fans, I agreed with you, Hideo Kojima is really a boss when creating something like that.

MGS 1

Been playing MGS 1 back in middle school and end it with both ending, the sad moment that I can think of is sniper wolf death, and gray fox death (he died as a hero), and merryl too, but that's not the real ending, so I don't really cares about that.

 

MGS 2
Make me a little angry in the MGS 2 that the cyborg ninja (the coolest in MGS series IMHO) get killed again.

Emma death didn't hit me as much as you are...

 

MGS 3
Yes... it's the boss, and her cobra unit.
And I can never ever forget that scene when Snake has to shoot her, and at that moment all the white flower change to red... oh my god..

oh and that moment when snake salute at the nameless grave and that tears...

I think this incident is one of the reason why he create MSF (soldiers without border) in MGS Peace Walker.

 

MGS PO

I think it didn't have a sad moments last time I played it.

 

MGS PW

This is my second most favorite MGS game after MGS 3, I really liked the recruiting people gameplay and see your HQ growing and have a new building.

Sad moments?? I think it's the last Peace Walker battle, where Peace Walker AI (remodelled after The Boss) decide to sacrifice herself to avoid the nuclear war. Dammit Kojima, again with the boss???

And Paz betrayal, Paz Y U DO THIS... 

 

MGS 4
I didn't played it, but that moment when 2 greatest snake meet... and the last moment of a great hero....

 

MGS 5 Ground Zero

I didn't played too, haven't got the spec for this one. But some of my sad moments:
-MSF and his HQ get destroyed, makes me sad because it seems like I wasted all my hardwork and 100 hours in MGS PW in the end..

-Paz death, and a gruesome ones... who the fuck planting bomb both in the stomach and vagina... 

 

I think there will be a lot of sad moments in the MGS 5 Phantom Pain, because I think that's the point where the big boss goes berserk that lead to the event of original MGS (Outer Heaven).

Btw MGS has a deep stories, sometimes I think my brain cannot keep up...
