Why not on Nexus?

The 'banned from Nexus' thread was my favorite and least favorite thread. A lot of "BS for no good reason" banned people were in there like Kendo but also a lot of "you had it coming" people.

Half the time when someone would get banned on the Nexus, I'd be like "Oh thank god, I hated that guy. He was rude and used a lot of hate speak to incite a flame war, just for fun."

Then he'd pop up in the 'banned from Nexus' thread like, "hey, I was just banned for no good reason." And everyone would go "Welcome!"

I'm in the background like:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9pua7tPtfY

I think most of us felt the same way. That thread often made me laugh. Still, thinking about it makes me miss some of the old gang who posted in it often like ginger tom who I found to be a riot.

There two kinds of the people who get banned there: blackballed because of a slight infraction or rubbing the staff the wrong way, and then those who were booted out because they acted like an ass in the chatroom, used warez, or decided to fight city hall.

Blackballed because of a slight infraction for certain cases whereas other cases the same infraction is ignored. A few years back darkputz came up with some rules that his moderators were to follow but since it has been confirmed that the moderators don't have to follow those rules if they don't want to. So we are left with one set of rules for certain people and other sets of rules for the rest.

Well I'm too afraid to post anything on nexus under the mods section, because one wrong word in your review/criticism and you are permanently done.

"Ok" , "Good mod". <- imo the only allowed words

Such freedom~. Sometimes I can't resist posting something when I see these plastic aliens copypasta followers mods, but you gotta hold on

Well I treat every incursion into the nexus as if I am a member of seal team 6. Go in, download mod and get the fuck out as fast as possible. I don't even upvote on the image share any more.

So have you guys noticed the recent change in policy over at the Nexus and other websites regarding Add blocking software like AddBlock and AddBlock Plus? If you use that add on then you will have noticed that the Nexus now recognizes that you are blocking their advertisements. They actually place an advertisement of their own that asks you to turn the add blocker off with some sappy story that they need the money. Regardless they are interfering with the space on your screen and in truth it is an advertisement to buy a membership.

For this reason as a long time beta tester for Firefox Nightly 64bit and Waterfox browsers I will tell you how to get rid of it and enjoy a full screen without annoying advertisements.

You need to have add block plus

http://addons.mozill...n/adblock-plus/

install Greasemonkey (for firefox) or tampermonkey (chrome)

http://addons.mozill...n/greasemonkey/

Then go to

http://github.com/re...-adblock-killer

Go to step 3...

and install the the 5 scripts in greasemonkey / tampermonkey

They should auto install but if they don't you can even copy and paste them in. it is pretty simple to get it to work.

That's it! No more annoying adds by the nexus to buy their memberships. And it also blocks other websites from doing the same.  Remember that this is not 100%. The five scripts that Greasemonkey is running use the most common methods that websites use to see who is using an add blocker. Most of these administrators really don't know how to do this correctly so they never change their operations. This is the reason why Greasemonkey works. There are some webmasters who change their scripts often (monthly/weekly) so to as avoid what Greasemonkey is doing. The Nexusmods is not one of those websites. Besides, new scripts can and are always being written.

By they way, these scripts will auto update through greasemonkey depending on your security options. I have mine set to inform me of updates but not install until I accept the update. But then again I use 15 security add-ons on my browser.

I don't suggest you use this on every website and forum. Some forums you may want to support and click on a few ads then you can easily play around with the option settings or manually turn it on and off as you like. However Java Script remains the biggest security risk on the internet (FBI report) and malicious code can easily be hidden is video and audio advertisements. Gaming and Porn sites remain big targets for hackers. Puts a big bullseye on this site but I kinda think that most of these hackers are members here :D:P

How about noscript and ghostery because adblock is shit

I mean were you live under a rock that you feel the need to post a tutorial for adblock, everybody uses adblock or something that gives you similar results, that's why so many websites are dying

I use adblock plus, ghostery, and noscript. Because I'm a divine entity. And they are my Holy trinity.

If you guys are tired of all the crappy, "pretty face is all she's got" followers I can show you some that aren't generic. BTRH made several followers that have unique properties outside of their appearance.

Private Squad V02. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/40925/?

Private Squad+ stuff.

Elly. She turns into a "Dryad" when hurt (Uses Halos Dremora texture resource). It's pretty cool. Nice visuals and texture for transformation and such. Completely not lore friendly as well!

It's like putting your hand down a trash compactor when looking for followers on the Nexus. Not much better here either, if I'm being perfectly honest.

Although the subject of that thread did wrong by gaming the hot files system, it's this self-righteous attitude of hers -- and leading the mob to hang him in absentia -- is why I don't use any of her mods, and I had to stifle my laughter as her fanclub fall onto their knees whenever she goes around there.

Thanks! I'm at the mod limit at the moment, but when I remove the ones I'm not working on anymore, I'll be sure to grab them. Yeah, I tried to spice things up a bit by having my last follower transform into a weapon at will, but I don't think it's enough. Even gave away the source code in hopes of someone else utilizing it. Ah well. A friend of  mine is going to spend the next few months recording lines for something special we have planned.

This isn't anything new. Most of the time they aren't "detecting" the adblocker or anything like that. They first put up a placeholder that says "please don't block ads", and during the page load, the ad-serving scripts replace it with the ad.

If you're blocking the ad, that script never runs, and the original is never replaced.

Not all sites do this, but many do and it's been around a long time.

Ya you are right it is not new; I copied this post from another site and I am just sharing the info with you. FYI I did write that original post around 4 moths ago. I never noticed their request to turn off ad blockers before that. However when I saw the ad to purchase a membership to get rid of their ad I just want to say "FUCK YOU ASSHOLES" because that is how I feel every time I am forced to use their service.

I am a long time member over at the add block plus forums so all the information I posted is not new unless you never heard it before eh? Still this information is more about the power of Greasemonkey and what it does and can do.

As far as having other add-ons that are redundant, that is just a smart thing to do. It is why I run a virus scan, malware bytes scan, spybot scan every moth and scan all my links with dr. web, and virus total and then scan all files once I download them and again once I extract the information from them.

These type of "Best Practices" and  redundancies are what smart people do. I recommend that everyone practice these type of redundancies.

Ohh, her voice. I agree with that.

Male VOs are way better imo ( Valfar for example )

There is only so much you can add to a follower. It's why I really liked Serana at first, but I quickly got annoyed by her. It's nice to hear all that stuff from her the first time, but it gets really annoying the third or so time you have to hear the same sentences over and over again. And that once her story is finished, she becomes your regular soulless follower. There is some beauty in simplicity and let's face it, writing a story that doesn't suck butts is hard and not many are capable of that, so if your talent is to create good looking chars, by all means, do it. If you can create a nice face, can write a story above the quality of cringe-worthy fanfiction (i.e. most games but especially mods that include any story whatsoever) and are competent at scripting stuff, yeah. Then you have the means to create a unique follower. But most people only can do one of the above, so like with every other mod, it's better if it's a collaborative effort. But the modding community is infested with special snowflakes who'd rather sit on what they can achieve (not that much in most cases) instead of working with others so the end result can be something truly great.

DO NOT UPLOAD WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. DO NOT MODIFY ANYTHING. ASK ME IF YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE MY MOD BETTER SO I CAN SAY NO BECAUSE OTHERWISE I'D HAVE TO ADMIT THAT YOU COULD POTENTIALLY DO A BETTER JOB THAN ME - Every disclaimer ever. You know why Sexlab is so big and succesful? Because everyone who wants to work on it is encouraged to do so, instead of having to deal with an author and his inflated ego. Not Ashal though, Ashal is a cool guy.

A much smarter person than me wrote a nice text about it here: http://wryemusings.com/Cathedral%20vs.%20Parlor.html

Modding is an interesting topic but it's not that important.

I doubt that. If something is redundant, it's simply not needed. Smart people don't do things that are not needed to achieve a certain goal, smart people want to reach that goal in an efficient and effective manner. Performing redundant tasks is neither efficient nor effective.

I use greasemonkey, requestpolicy, and a custom usercontent.css for 'ad blocking' and nothing else. Greasemonkey is great if you know javascript. I wrote one for youtube that just repeatedly clicks the 'off' button for annotations.. ;)

Ya I love greasemonkey. I personally don't write javascript but since I am involved in beta testing for mozilla I have access to many other beta testers personal scripts for it. Once I started with greasemonkey the entire internet change for me.

I stll run all the other add-ons because I have tested years ago and I see no reason to get rid of them.

I love requestpolicy. I like it more than noscript but it is not being update any more (last I heard) and other add-ons have progressed to almost make it obsolete at this point. I'll have to sign in to my mozilla account and check my notes. However since I don't have the time to beta test add-ons any more I just have stuck with the set up I have been using for the past 5 years.

Here is some of what I currently use on this browser (Cyberfox) I am currently using now but on my work laptop I use more and my other computer I use less as it is set up for music and video;

That's... pretty much my experience on Nexus as well.  Pretty much every ban I've witnessed or heard discussed happened because the person who was banned was practically asking for it.  The one and only time I ever had an altercation with their staff was my getting kicked from the chat (not banned, just kicked) because I mentioned a spoiler to Diablo 3 (but really, how is saying Diablo will appear in Diablo 3 be a spoiler) and it was absolutely nothing to get worked up over.

I mean, hell, in my experience The Vampire Dante seems to be a generous soul.  One night around the holiday season I lamented my lack of cash and boredom, as I was interested in playing Oblivion but could not afford to do so.  Next thing I know, Dante gifted me the entire game and its DLC over Steam.  I never asked, and I barely ever spoke to the guy before then.

Then I come to LL, and it's nothing but hate for Nexus, over bans people received for actions that seemed like they deserved it, or connection issues that the Nexus has been trying to solve for years.  So how am I supposed to believe that the Nexus is full of control-freak monsters?

I can say that I went and bought premium membership over at NM because it was the first Mod resource place I've heard of. (( gomen Madams and others )) Went looking afterwards on YouTube for some non-vanilla type of 'play' and kept hearing about, and I quote "The Place That Shall Not be Named!" So I went back to NM for a bit while trying to figure out what they where talking about.  Then the day I joined here I googled BDSM for Skyrim XD

Personally I prefer the open-mindedness apparent here instead of over on NM ... That said though I am wondering how the AP Mod author can handle all of the reports he seems to get over that Mod ...

LOl, I know what you mean. She is Swedish, and the voice acting is just, No. Since I'm a Swede myself, I hate hearing other Swedes talk English.

Hey, HEY. There'll be no Vilja bashing in this town. :P Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who enjoys having her around... of course I'm very careless and she's spot-on with the healing of me so that could be a reason.

Any other follower I've tried hasn't been nearly as quick to heal as Vilja for me. Maybe I'm unlucky.

Do like many other authors there do.. ignore it if they don't like it.

At least it seems as if he don't report them for banning. There is that at least.

By not looking at them. 98% of mod authors never check their forum page. I see a lot update their mods without even looking at it. Mostly because they are Japanese and such but still. Even on some mods that aren't straight troll comments, authors lock them so they don't have to deal with the constant bug reports. If you quit the game give your mod away. Don't play with peoples feels!

Happens on this site too. I feel like saying something as an artist to help them. But I doubt they'd take the advice well so I just leave it alone. People don't take constructive criticism well no matter what site you're on.

I'd rather have a BlandMcSameface follower than Vilja though.

I like Vilja on Oblivion. But on Skyrim 3NPC exists so... na I'm good. Has way better voice acting. If Emma did like Kris and got someone else to voice act her mod she would have been golden. But I respect the fact that she did the work herself unlike some people...

Speaking as a member of Nexus and LoversLab, I think it would be great if both could work in unison.  It would increase awareness of the different types of mods that are available.

And I also think it would better the community as a whole (Ex: feedback on further improving the websites, more variety with shared content, etc.).  But sadly, with Nexus' restrictions in place, it just won't happen.

Speaking as a member of both, I think they're fine split up as they are.  I am not part of, nor do I want to be part of, the hate and flames and drama between the two, and I think it's a good thing that both exist.  The Nexus is so big that it behooves them to pander to the lowest common denominator: kids, teenagers, casual gamers and the like, who simply can't/won't/don't have time to learn the basics of modding or follow detailed multi-part instructions to get a major mod package like LoversLab to work.  Not only that, but the hardcore sex it represents is probably best brushed under the rug as well.  That leaves the field wide open for specialists to have their own site dedicated to their own mods that are too big, too sweeping, too complex, to host on a site that really isn't set up for that kind of thing.

Even those of us who are veteran modders tend to get upset when we go to Nexus and adding a mod isn't as simple as "that looks nice">download>mod organizer>play.  But when we get a mod here, we know we have to RTFM, check for conflicts and do our homework before we even dare start a download.  We also know the kind of content we're getting, and that we can speak freely about said content without our words reaching minors, the easily offended or those too casual to understand what we're saying.

I like it the way it is.  Rock on and don't change a thing!

If they're not control freaks, then how could one explain why all the sudden in the last two years they went from supporting a few Beth games to a couple dozen and more titles, some of which are even remotely moddable? And then the problems with downloading? And a mod manager that seems to be in stillbirth?

I come at the Nex forums, especially the tech support areas and some of the threads are left unanswered... Of course, because most of the posters are first-timers who didn't read carefully before modding.

Going any further, of course there will be some prudes.

Oh, yes, I remember something else... Down at New Vegas, does anyone knows of a certain BlackBlossom? This character doesn't seem to get flagged despite having a questionable authorship claim to a body mod.

Link to comment

"our interpretation of the rules, not yours"  If that isn't being a control freak then nothing is.

Yeah, BlackBlossom.  The biggest mod thief in the history of FO modding.  Millions of downloads and endorsements and she didn't earn a single one.  Dimon99 and Backsteppo made the Type3 meshes.  Luchaire and Kiwi made the textures.  All BlackBlossom did was sample Exnem's ugly ass FO3 body textures and paste them on to an existing Type3 texture.  It probably took her all of 30 minutes to make.  What's really sad is she resized the base textures of both body mods from 2048 to 4096.  And her thieving ass and the dumbasses at Nexus don't even know that is just a BIG image and nothing more.

One good thing did come out of that mess she uploaded.  It got her black-balled from Type3 modding since no one would give her permission to use anything they made after that.  She did resort to outright stealing later on and 80% of the fake hi-res bullshit she had uploaded got yanked when people started bitching about it.  And notice that she never did anything for Skyrim?  #1 No one will let her use their work because she'll pretend she made it and slap that stupid BOG logo of hers on it.  #2 The bogus retextures she makes will not work in Skyrim.

And the Nexus staff is aware of everything she's done and she is STILL there.  One more reason not to upload anything to Nexus.
