Myst42 Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Anybody else likes movies? Anything you found nice should do it, no need to go legendary movies... In example: One of my favorite movies is the Fight Club. Pretty deep and heavy subtext about madness, creativity, social oppression, revolution and liberation, slaves in white collars and the fight against the system... That, also helped me develop a bit of taste for "mind fuck" movies (with that weird aura of being in a trip the whole movie)... movies that make you think and question reality and everything you know about something, those you can come out from with a new (or not so new) form of insight In the same line we have The Matrix... basically the same, except with more action and cyberpunk fantasy in it... And of course V for Vendetta is also an emotive movie in the same topic Also movies you might find entertaining, doesnt matter if it's just for the action sequences, sometimes, they're worth seeing too If you can find good vampire movies these days they could make it to the list too... I'll just mention Interview With the Vampire and Coppola's Dracula. I'll also mention the first Alien movie... redefined the gender, created a franchise and definitely caused me an impression Consider beautiful movies like What Dreams may Come or movies that made you cry (anybody else cries with movies??)... I cried at the end of The Last Samurai and I also cried like a baby with The Green Mile... Just saw Peter Jackson's King Kong and after diving into the emotional background I felt like crying too... what a fucking tragedy that story... Music helps a lot to make something emotive, so also good music in movies, talkin' about music that made you commit to the story and feel it, whether it's sadness, love, beauty, mind fuck or rage among others. In sum, just anything you deem worthy of being seen, doesn't matter if it's "too mainstream" or not and nobody knows it... just something that could have helped you find your path in life, at a certain moment perhaps, something that shaped who you are, or left you thinking for days, something you considered an amazing scenery something beautiful/amazing/spectacular and/or awesome to watch, Something that perhaps got to your emotive side and took a tear or two out of you. That, and why you think it's worth watching No trolling please, if you think it's a good movie doesn't matter if anybody else thinks it's not, it's your movie and it's your reasons Anything goes, recommendations, comments, life experiences, reviews etc...
Angrybird Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Taken and Shooter are probably the most recent action movies I've enjoyed, defending your loved ones, one man against big organizations mafia/government, I've also enjoyed the latest Rambo just after the first one in quality the others aren't worth mentioning.
StableBot Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 I don't know if this counts, but since this is a Skyrim site after all. This is one of the movie that I made, it a story with some adults scenes in it, so only advices for 18+ audiences. If it's an adventure you seek, try it out (If you're over 18). Dr. Thang Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 I finally got The Raid 2 on dvd recently, been looking for it for a long time but could never seem to find it. Anyway, it....was....incredible. I love action movies, the more fighting and stuff the better, it's like porn to me, in fact I literally chubbed up at times from watching the fight scenes in the first Raid. This one has even more and better and more brutal fight scenes than the first, but also a much better and bigger story too. In fact I'd say it's the best action movie ever made.
Cynical Misanthrope Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Pretty much all the Alien movies. Sure, some are way better than others, but I think the whole package is pretty awesome. And while we are in the Alien Universe, you also have the Predator movies. The last three ones could be questionable, but I think they had the right ideas, but fucked it up along the way. Still, I am huge Predator fan. Der Untergang (Downfall), based on reality, of Hitlers last days in his bunker. Not to mention, a fuck loads of "Hitler Parody" started to show up on Youtube shortly after. Still, I really like this video. It shows how fucked up Hitler were at the end. Falling Down, a movie who portrays a man, when he just has enough, and snaps. Michael Douglas is just pure gold in this movie. And while we are on the same subject, God Bless America, about a man, who one day, just has enough of all the fucked up stuff in our society. The Time Machine. Yes, as you have prolly already guessed, it's about time traveling, and a mans struggle to correct certain events. There is prolly tons of more movies out there, but these are the ones I could think of now.
RitualClarity Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 The day the earth stood still.. lol (1951 original version... ) Klaatu barada Nikto.. (origin in that movie) now has gone on and is used an many other movies, even Star Wars.. lol.
shirow Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Shaun of the dead is the movie I do prefer. Fun to watch, with stupid humor and I like it. Nothing intellectual. And zombies!
Lexi SubZero Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 The Thing (1982)...the 2011 prequel was also okay.
marcob3 Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Entertainment = Army of darkness, is funny, fantastasy also weird intellectual = Russian ark, it show the mounting phase isnt necessary for doing cinema, also have absurd photografy and scenografic powa Horror extreme = Martys, so extreme and also functionally cured in screenplay
Myst42 Posted December 7, 2014 Author Posted December 7, 2014 Pretty much all the Alien movies. Sure, some are way better than others, but I think the whole package is pretty awesome. Yep... In preference I'd say, 1st and 4th, then 2nd and lastly 3rd... AvP 1 and I won't consider the 2nd cause me don't like it Alien is still my favorite monster till the day... something so... primitive and survivalist about it...feels so... pure... not to mention the whole ancient thing the plot contains about the origins of it... Some people complain about Prometheus , probably they didn't get it... the whole design of the mythology is nothing else than a lovecraftian horror... that and the unique art designs by Giger... Just pure epicness I'll also agree on the Thing too Just saw "Where the Wild Things Are" An underground classic from what you find in internet culture But seriously... they say this story is for children!??!!! C'me on!! It's about a goddamn child with schizophrenia and dissosiative personality! All the monsters are traits of him, all doing what they want and not even getting along while the poor sod escapes to a fantasy world to refuge from reality. You can't seriously tell me that argument is for children!
RitualClarity Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Where the wild things are is for children. It is imaginative and inventive. A world that a child can "retreat" into. Children retreat into worlds of their own all the time. I had that book as well and when a child I enjoyed it quite a bit.. Then again I am an alien... In all seriousness.. Most fairy tales and such from the past were graphic and violent if you trace them back to the original story. Generations grown up on those stories as well without major trauma or issues in fact some of the best minds and thinkers would have been told those stories ( from the early to late 19th century) before they were "sanitized". Even the little rascals and 3 stooges were shown during Saturday shows at the movie theater where cartoons were shone. (Early 1900 - 1940's. etc before the advent of TV's in every home) I will have to find that movie so that I can see it and compare it to the book (memory).. I think I will enjoy it.
Jojery Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 I love 28 Days Later. Probably one of my favorites of all time, if not my favorite.
RitualClarity Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 I love 28 Days Later. Probably one of my favorites of all time, if not my favorite. That was pretty good. It was a refreshing approach to the whole ending of the world story line. There are a few twist that were nice as well.

jxm Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Too many to fill them all in here...of course the usual suspects like Star Wars (all three parts of them ... wish they'd make movies about the clone wars and stuff, but upcoming sequels will do ) and Lord of the Rings surely...but its kinda lame talking about these so I'd rather post some older/less popular (nowadays) movies... The Untouchables, starring Kevin Costner, Sean Connery, Andy Garcia, Robert deNiro, telling the story of how Al Capone was brought down by Elliot Ness and his crew of uncorruptable policemen. Whenever that one is on TV, I usually watch it. Can't really tell why. It's just entertaining me from start to finish. And damn the scene in the train station? Or when DeNiro uses a baseball-bat to ... prove his point? Just awesome, and I like how people dressed back then Dark City: With Rufus Sewell, Jennifer Connelly, Kiefer Sutherland. Not much to say here to avoid spoilers but: Its a fascinating, kafka-esque-movie. Stunning visuals, mysterious story, a rather cool showdown. Simply a good movie that doesn't tread too much on mainstream-oaths but still is accessable enough for everyday-watchers like me Dragon Slayer: Maybe the darkest (non-cartoon) Disney-Movie ever made. Literally, as the sceneries are mostly lit by fire. Its set in the darkest of middleages. Magic is dying, and so are dragons. But AllyMcBeals assistant sets out to slay the last dragon and save the princess. Probably the best dragon-fantasy-movie ever made. And Vermithrax Pejorative is a much more badass name than Smaug too Star Dust: Featuring the adoable Claire Danes as .. a Star. And Robert De Niro as a ... manlymanish sky-pirate. A beautiful, humourous fairytale-love-story based on a work by Neil Gaiman. What more to ask for? Lots of ideas, fun, action, Claire Danes looks gorgeous A movie perfect for the entire family, a romantic evening, or anything else Excalibur: Simply the best movie about the Arthur-Saga. Period. Yes they run around in the most unrealistic armor but ... damn, a movie that uses teh Carmina Burana by Carl Orff? You can count me in. If you like fantasy and/or knights in a more serious setting? Watch it. I could go on and on like this. So many damn good movies...
RitualClarity Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 ohh.. Dark City... I liked it. Can't say I remember any other movie like that one.
Myst42 Posted December 8, 2014 Author Posted December 8, 2014 From 28 Days Later https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ST2H8FWDvEA Dat messed up soundtrack... Dark City is one of my favs too Stardust is heavily underrated for such a colorful fairy tale Will add some which have been said to my list to watch
RitualClarity Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Yea.. Might have to add Dark City to my Netflix Que.
MisterMoist Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 When it comes to movies, its a "I just saw a good movie" kind of thing with me. I don't watch movies very often, so I don't usually remember my "favorites". That being said, I really think Bad Santa is a really good movie. It comes off as a raunchy anti-Christmas movie, but I think all the little details in it make it a really great movie. Without spoiling too much, the characters are well done in both a serious and comedic manner, all loose ends get tied up, and I really love how it end. It makes me tear up a little each time. Click is another one that comes to mind when I think of good comedies that make me think much more than I thought I would. I expected a comedy that involved toying around with the universe. I got a comedy that goes to surprisingly dark places. Also made me cry a little bit. As a side note, how do you add spoiler tags on here, for future reference?
