Good Snacks to Eat During Class for College Student

Like the title says, this upcoming Fall Semester I'll be having three classes in a row for 3 hours. (Having an Applied Math major is going to suck :)) And like any healthy young man, I get hungry. With only 10 minutes between classes I won't be able to have a substantial meal. And those 2-3 hour classes once a week. I"ll be getting hungry.

I'm just curious as to what you guys eat or have eaten during class that's appropriate since most of my teachers allow food as long as it's not distracting.

My personal favorite is nature valley bars with water.

I've actually had a person bring pizza to my calculus class and shared with his friends. Whole class smelled like pizza. Too bad I didn't get any.

Crackers with cheese, then washed down with hot coffee.

lol, just imagining if I'd have done that myself :b

My lecturers would have gone nuts :P

Not a big fan of coffee, but I like it once in a while.

Crackers with cheese, what crackers do you prefer? Saltines? Ritz?

Soft foods so people next to you don't go crazy with your crunching, munching etc. Dried fruit, beef jerky, small salad are ones that stand out atm, or you could give up and just bring food like burritos, sandwiches, sushi and the like. Where I went to school the food place was pretty much in the middle of campus so most people just brought meals from there and hit class.

Lectures/Seminars are the only occasions in which i enjoy sweets. Get's your brain working, compact and silent. Just bring enough to share with friends. ;)

And for the long hauls müsli/energy bars are great.

Oh, and anything containing caffeine and high amounts of sugar to drink, i prefer darjeeling. (Yes, i bring a thermos bottle of the stuff all the time. :D )

The only thing i've learned in class to eat is something you don't have to take time to unwrap.  Sometimes the plastic or the sheath, or WHATEVER it is holding the food can be VERY loud when crinkling open if the teacher is lecturing.   That will usually get you a few dirty glances lol.  Getting them in containers seems to work best for me and that way I can also have fresher foods that I can keep in the refrigerator at home as well.

Take a handful of almonds and raisins in a snack baggie. Perfect for that break time mid class snack. Power surge that brain :3 Helped me out tons during grueling algebra classes >.< Hate math  :s

No noisy wrappers or strong smells, also, try to avoid food that will leave crumbs or grease. A piece of fruit, a chunk of cheese and a nut bar is what I brought when I had a similar class schedule.

There's these really neat packs of non-baked, non-salted Almonds sold pretty much everywhere but I can't remember the brand right now x.x

They taste great and they have those zip locks so you can close and open them silently and they won't disturb anyone.

If you are allowed to bring a drink then make it just water or juice because soft drinks and caffeine doesn't help as much as people think they do.

If it were me, I would want something that is not offensive to those around me, and something I don't have to do any preparation to, (like baggies of nuts or chips), I could just grab it and go.   Also not a fan of unwrapping things that would disturb class.

I usually have Fig Newtons, the individual packs that have two of them per pack, with me on my van when I go out to job sites.  If I get hungry, they get me through an hour or so fine, until I have more time to eat better.

Also little boxes of raisins work well, as do energy bars.

As for drink, a bottle of water for convenience, or coffee for staying awake.

Jack LInks Tender Bites (packed with protein and it has a zip lock so you're not committed to eating the whole thing), an orange or a banana, MIO or Dansai flavor for water, one napkin, toothpick or flosser.  If you carry a book bag or a pack make room for your own tumber, that way you can get free water out of the drinking fountain and not have to pay $1.25 for bottled stuff that may or may not have been sitting in a warehouse or in the machine for a month.

EDIT: If you do the tumbler thing and not buy bottled water you can save $37.50 each month.

What I usually, except my parents are mexican so leftover food is usually rice and beans. They don't taste so good cold, and I don't have time between classes to heat them up.

Pretty interesting food choices you guys have, and while I'm not looking forward to the semester, which starts in a week and a halfish, I guess I won't go hungry :)

Also I don't like sugar as much anymore, my body just naturally sort of "avoids sugary food" as it's not reallly my first choices of stuff to eat.

A good trail mix (more fruits than nuts) and a good source of water. only sugar would be from natural sugars in fruit.

all natural to keep up your energy but not enough to weight you down. last thing you want is a bunch of sugary or starchy stuff to sit in your stomach.

If you don't have an athletic class of some sort to burn off food, trail mixes are a good way to go. and it's easy to make your own.

I do a ton of camping and hunting. That means I'm either stuck eating freeze dried food or working with what's available at the local store. After a few years of experimenting I've come up with one snack i always take with me because it doesn't need to stay cool or need to be heated before eaten.

All you need is a package of small tortillas, string cheese, and dried salami. Just put a few pieces of dried salami across the tortilla, put the string cheese over that, and roll the whole thing up.

It's one of the few foods that keeps at room temperature tastes good and doesn't leave you more hungry a few minutes later.

Bottled soda of any kind. High energy, easily digested, screw-on cap in case you knock it over with your elbow while writing notes. It's not noisy either, and the right brands have caffeine to help you not dose off in class.

As for things to munch on, if you can stomach it with the soda, granola bars work well. Not chips -- the bag is too noisy, it ticks off teachers. I drink a lot of Wild Cherry Pepsi out of the university's vending machine during class to help myself keep awake. Usually one a day while at Wright State.
