SimpleLife Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Ton of awesome armors out there, but i find myself always wondering how can I actually use them when most of their actual armor ratings are so low. Is there a mod or something that allows you to easily up their armors to what you need? (Other then CK, that painful and slow to use)

Do you not know what the Workbench in the blacksmith shops is for? Did it occur to you that you could enchant several pieces of gear to increase the smithing skill and then wear them all at the same time, take a Smithing potion at the same time and you can improve your gear to incredible levels (visit the grindstone and improve your weapons too). My current character has an (seriously excessive) armor rating of 27,513 (at level 73). There are additional tricks you can use involving the alchemy skill and cycling equipment to reach such levels.
chuckdm Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Simpler alternative if you don't mind cheating: player.setav smithing 900 Now workbench the armor, and then do this: player.setav smithing 100 Your chainmail bikini should now put a full set of daedric to shame. Much easier than trying to hunt down (or brew) potions.
afa Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 ...armor caps out at 80% anyways so there's really no need to go all crazy with the armor rating number. Also Dragonhide.

When all you need is to change some armor ratings, then Tes5Edit is much easier and faster to use than the CK.
Guest Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 I actually quite liked that about the vanilla game. The late armour sets (Dragon, Daedric) are ugly as all hell, but the early steel set I thought was pretty cool. With capped smithing, you can wear pretty much any gear you like. Much more interesting than dressing like a tool just for stats. Mages were kind'a buggered in comparison though, since enchanting pretty much sucked compared to smithing.
Crate123 Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 If you play something like Skyre, using the reproccer will give the armor pieces an armor rating that depends on the material it is made from, so often it gives decent armor rating (SkyRe is immune to the stupid alchemy/blacksmithing cycle that gives endless stats) but armor pieces that are classified as clothing gives 0 armor rating and is best for either mages or just lollygagging about.
WaxenFigure Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Someone wrote a long article once about how an armor rating over about 750 is pointless and it seems to hold true. I created the current armor just to see how strong it would be. On the other hand my bow is so powerful that I can one-shot a legendary dragon using an iron arrow.
shadow866 Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Well i pretty much have replaced every armor in the game with custom armors and its very easy to change. Just have to rename the mesh files and replace. And also include the textures from that armor. Takes 30 sec to replace. So armor rating has never been a problem.(I dont use blackmithing trick either) I also use a few combat overhaul mods that make even a normal bandit a challenge if you dont watch your back. And gee lets not talk about dragons. They crush me even with maxed out magic resist. Gotta play it smart. Thats how i like my skyrim
afa Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 I don't think enchant is weak. Smithing, Enchant, and Alchemy go hand in hand for improving your character. If you use magic, enchant makes spells cost nothing to cast is pretty damn good, that pretty much let you dump all level up into Health...and all that Novice/Adapt/Master/ Spell branch perks become useless... Other Fortify enchantments also further improve your damage potential for physical damage, and resistance!
carnifex Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Ah, the crafting skills of Skyrim... nothing like running around in untouchable gear that makes you cast master level spells for free. Unless you like at least an illusion of challenge to your game, that is

Think it depends on how your getting it that high as the perks add a lot to the value as you get higher so having 2.5k armour rating via perks is pretty pointless but after making it legendary and not re-picking those perks your armour rating drops quite a bit so having more than 750 if its just from the armour and no perks prolly does make a bit of a difference.
check Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 The Mod you are looking for is called Transmogrification http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/33902/?
