problem with nexus?

Recommended Posts

Seems like a classic bait-and-switch site to get popups and other boring "malware" on a user's computer. Promises of cute girls, and of course when you get there you see a few, but at that point it doesn't matter, because they're already flooding you with ads and such...unless you have the sense to have installed adblock and noscript, at which point only downloading and executing a file is going to have any chance to do anything meaningful. I remember when I used to be curious, and infected my PC with many a script-kiddie's idle bits of work. Of course, now I can afford to be curious without worrying about my browser getting hijacked, but I don't bother, because good porn is easy to find in "safe" places, and the sites that host malware don't have good taste anyway. XD

It's due to their aggressive anti-piracy policy, and their lawful-stupid enforcement of it. If they think you have pirated something, or you admit that you have, then they cave your skull in with the banhammer.

My beefs with them are that they are too bound by their three strikes rules or their zero-tolerance to use their personal judgement on something, which means they don't care if you're having a bad day, you're just gonna get bashed. They claim to believe in second chances with that appeal form, but the whole thing being one-way, something just doesn't seem right there. It's almost as if they have to rub in that you got banned and only they have the power to let you back in.

Fortunately I'm not one of the banned. I'm one of the many thousands of mod leechers that stays under their radar. Of course, it helps that I can't pirate games since my connection would seize up and die. :D

As long as you are heavily addicted to their mod offerings they've got you by the balls. It is the relation between junkies and dealers. The prize the junkie has to pay for the drugs here is to shut his frakkin mouth not to disturb the prosperity of the terror site or he might find it fatal. Actually very simple and easily understood.

Now don't tell me that you were not addicted to their mod offerings or chances to become known!

Personally I never was addicted to them for already known at start there and I never looked back either. It's always better to stay on the own two any road. Such kind of adulthood begins with the search for alternatives to overcome any one-sided dependencies and thus the risks to get disconnected from longed for drugs or local glory.

A lot of you guys seem to forget that it's not that hard to just make a new account under a new identity. I'm on my second account over there, won't say what the name is(I hate filling out forms, especially for dictatorships) but like I said, it's not hard to skip around their cute little bans. Makes me laugh when I realize that they can't keep me out, no matter how much I may be unwelcome there.

According to what a few people said.

Unlucky if you get an IP Ban, Lucky if you get an Account Ban

You do realize that you're supporting the Nexus when you return with a new account, right?

And how does an IP ban work if say you were banned while roaming or while using a public access point or at an office or even on a home network with lots of others using the same router?

well, on different views, yes, but in social view, no

well yeah I know what you mean, it mean that if you join 'em, their community will get bigger and famous (actually, yes it does)

but with the banned one join on there (again), those banned makes a problem to admins (my fav part lol)

I was banned 4 days ago, and I saw 70 account get banned in 3 days. :D

Some of you have seen the new open thread about alleged inappropriate armor mods for Skyrim, I see this thread in the same way.

The management team chose to be as nexus is their place and they decide how to organize for better or for worse.

I do not defend such behavior, but the way they decided to walk.

To be a good thing for most times you have to do it for yourself, someone offered the first posts to create a page to avoid having to rely on nexus.

As the mods that are not to everyone's taste, the solution is to wait for someone to do something to our taste, or join in and do it ourselves.

To each their own, live and let live, works great for things that don't affect others, or if you live alone on an island. However, one way to cross the line is to enter a public domain and tell others how to live. Could be good or bad, depending on how the conflict is resolved and what is learned or thrown back. In the case of the other thread you mentioned, we held the line. This thread isn't crossing the line because those at the Nexus would have to come here to debate.

Nexus is privately owned but opened to and existing for the public at large. It is nothing without its community. So everyone there ought to participate in the many ways that they can; one being offering feedback and even criticism. Those who want it to succeed ought to be doing so. In the process, you might get banned. Then it may be time to abandon them to their own fate, perhaps posting here as part of the quickening.

I can't speak for Nexus directly, but as someone who owns and runs a forum and I say it is difficult to keep everyone happy over countries. The owner is from the UK and I bet he'd let anything go if possible. Constant hacking attempts, traffic that is on government tracking levels (in any country) means being 1-shotted. Perhaps their moderation team need some lessons in sensitivity, but I don't envy their (unpaid) jobs.

Why try to keep everyone happy? Seems futile. Unintended consequences and such. If the community is mature, best to let them be. If they are immature, best to allow them to mature.

The owner could just follows the laws regarding his business. No reason to get vigilante or make up new laws.

We've already covered that he's not concerned about hacking or tracking. He calls it fearmongering.

They really work for free while he makes the dope pay???

Not Falmer, apparently.

Sometimes however they sample Falmer ears just to find out one of its alchemical properties. True story!

I think Skyrim humans are pretty cool guys, tehy sample Famler ears and don't afraid of anything.

"Orcs don't ride horses. They eat horses! And sometimes I think they're the smart ones. Wait, maybe it's Dunmer who eat horses..."

This idea is flawed, due to the fact that the Internet exists, and thus any information you want can be found relatively easy.
