Question about Skin Gloss question for bodyslide and outfit studio

Recommended Posts

This is a question to just try and save myself some time every time I need to remod skyrim. Because once everything is working, this is by far the largest time sink.

I like my bodies glossy. I already have a custom skin texture installed but what I do is I open each and every outfit in outfit studio, and set the specular and gloss to a ration of about 7/100.

Is there a way to just apply this setting to the body across the board for all outfits using the same body, so i don't need to open and save each outfit everytime I have to reinstall skyrim? Like a way to apply the gloss to the CBBE HDT base model itself?

The CBBE mesh (base model) should be located in Data\CalienteTools\BodySlide\ShapeData\CBBE HDT(*).

Simply edit and save it using Nifskope and then use Bodyslide to "build" or "batch build" again. However, all outfits and armor containing body mesh must be adjusted separately.

*The folder containing the CBBE baseshape mesh may have a different name on your system.

However, it's generally not a good idea to change the specular and glossiness settings in the body mesh. This is because you would also have to change the hands, feet, and head – and the NPC heads were generated using the vanilla values.

Therefore, it's recommended to use a WET mod for your character or to rework the specular textures (body, hands, and head) in conjunction with ENB.

A easier way to get glossy skin is to open up your ENB menu (if you use a enb) and go to "Objects". Then then look for 6 Specular Amount and Specular Power settings. Change them however you like 8-10, usually gives you noticeable gloss. This should apply to all characters.

You could also get a skin mod that adds gloss by default for every character. I once tried Demoniac and its pretty good.

I have used the wet mod in the past but was not too impressed. I have had better results with this.

I do not make huge adjustment so I've never had to adjust the hands, feet, or head. So this has worked for me in the past. It's just time consuming.

ENB is something I've learned I am not good with using. I stick to ENBoost and avoid tampering further.

I have Demoniac installed already. By far my favorite skin texture mod. But I like a little extra too.

If the changes are so minor that you can't see them, you might as well leave them as they are.

Otherwise, you end up with shiny, oily bodies and all the NPCs have dry hands and faces – that doesn't look good at all.🤔

PS:

Basically, you only need to lighten the three specular textures for hands, head, and body.

Then all NPCs and even the PC will be shiny—without any mods or mesh adjustments. And with a backup of the 3 textures, you can revert the change at any time.

The changes are still visible. What I mean is that the difference between hands, feet, and face don't create any obvious seams or anything.

I'll give the 2nd recommendation a shot. Not quite sure how I'll do it but I'll see what I can figure out.
