Grey Cloud Posted August 19, 2025 Posted August 19, 2025 (edited) The first video (17th August 2025). 9 mins:39 secs. The mandatory hyperbolic title: "The UK Online Safety Act Just Got Destroyed By 4Chan" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yq8pCsEsAhE Opening screen has a tweet which contains the word 'allegedly' in the first line. Hypnotics opening sentence contains the word 'apparently'.  4chan release a press statement - 'the most amazing way 4chan could possibly respond' according to Hypnotic. The first line of the text of this press release (the third paragraph) begins "According to press reports . . .".  A quick perusal of the Ofcom website reveals: Ofcom online safety page: https://www.ofcom.org.uk/online-safety/protecting-children/ofcom-investigates-34-porn-sites-unr-new-age-check-rulesde "What happens next We will now gather and analyse evidence to determine whether any contraventions have occurred. If our assessment indicates compliance failures, we will issue provisional notices of contravention to providers, who can then make representations on our findings, before we make our final decisions. Enforcement powers Where we identify compliance failures, we can require platforms to take specific steps to come into compliance. We can also impose fines of up to £18m or 10% of qualifying worldwide revenue, whichever is greater. Where appropriate, in the most serious cases, we can seek a court order for ‘business disruption measures’, such as requiring payment providers or advertisers to withdraw their services from a platform, or requiring Internet Service Providers to block access to a site in the UK."  Note that Ofcom was already looking at 34 websites before adding 11 more including 4chan.  Relating to 4chan: Case opened 10th June 2025 and updated 13th August. https://www.ofcom.org.uk/online-safety/illegal-and-harmful-content/investigation-into-4chan-and-its-compliance-with-duties-to-protect-its-users-from-illegal-content  Hypnotic witters on about the OSA wanting to take away your adult rights without explaining what rights or how it will do this. Hypnotic: "The UK thinks they can police outside their backyard". No they do not as a basic understanding of things shows.   The second video (18th August 2025). 8 mins:29 secs. Cue the hyperbolic title: "The UK Online Safety Act Has Become Full Blown Tyranny". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYnWWzyvj34 This video shows what a complete and utter numpty this guy is.  Hypnotic opening sentence: "We are going to be following up on the story about 4chan and the UK Online Safety Act . . .". Meanwhile screen shows a document with the title "Dutch Regulator Pressures X, Facebook, TikTok to Enforce EU Censorship Rules Ahead of October Election". So we have 'Dutch regulators' and 'EU censorship rules' neither of which have anything to do with the UK or the OSA. And we have 'election' so it has nothing to do with children. No source is given for this document but it seems to be from Reclaim The Net. https://reclaimthenet.org/netherlands-election-digital-censorship-acm-dsa-tech-platforms  Media Bias Fact Check rates Reclaim The Net as 'Mixed' overall. https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/reclaim-the-net-bias/  Hypnotic throws in a misogynist comment (42 secs). 4chan's legal letter is now 'epic' which is presumably better than the previous day's 'most amazing'. The fine is now described as "20,000 a day plus extra penalties". (1:08). I'm not going to type it out but check what the dipshit says at 2:25.  This guy is totally out of his depth regarding politics full stop never mind British, EU or European politics. Yet another misogynist, right-winger with the brains of a dead lettuce.     Edited August 19, 2025 by Grey Cloud 2

Well, I ain't your boss dude, but if you're up to a suggestion, that entire side of YT has a extremely hardcore fanbase, people just love to get mad, read the comments, like 40% aren't even about the video, some dude says X, Y or Z on the thumb and everyone will scream about it, even if the video has the literal opposite content, even engaging with them is a loss of time 1

bleeder4 Posted August 24, 2025 Posted August 24, 2025 Most of us Brits think the OSA is pointless. It's just driven us all to VPNs instead. So now the government won't be able to track our internet history as we're all using foreign VPNs. So next they'll try and go after those foreign VPN providers. Scammers are also creating fake "Please show ID" pop-ups that go to phishing sites, so all this ID verification has just given another tool to the scammers. 1

Tracking your Internet history is not the purpose of the OSA. The purpose of the OSA is to ensure providers of adult content employ age-verification in order to restrict minors gaining access to said adult content.  25 minutes ago, bleeder4 said: So next they'll try and go after those foreign VPN providers. UK TV news is different to US TV news in the way a story is presented. UK newspapers are mostly right-wing (owned by Murdoch).
Darkpig Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 People try way too hard to censor things they don't like instead of adapting. To the surprise of no-one it is mostly people who are afraid of change.

I've said it before, but I suspect next on the horizon will be laws requiring VPN providers to be gov't-approved. And part of the approval will require VPN providers to maintain logs and to make them available to law enforcement. 1
