The 3.5% rule simply states that roughly 3.5% of any given population are needed to non-violently overthrow a government. The now 420k signatures obviously aren't 3.5% of the UK's population but a large enough chunk that it should be cause for concern, especially with all the other political unrest going on in the UK. My point was to show some of the terms and conditions for a .gov poll. Okay but my point was that you don't need a whole lot of people to enact change so even a relatively small minority can still have a big impact. It's up to the ruling class to recognize these signs, though. You can only act so long against the interest of the people before things get ugly.

They've already passed the requirement for the next step with the poll. Repealing or amending a law isn't what this 3.5% thing was about anyway.
RoboticBoznara Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 I'm definitely nervous about the future of my access to the internet. I do not wish to give out my ID. Doesn't mean I'm under-aged (I'm closer to 30 than 20) I just love my privacy. Until the UK bans VPN's I'm basically forced to use one. Â I really do hope the phrase "darkest before dawn" is true... 2

special Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 (edited) Can no longer access LL in the UK... having to use VPN set to West Coast US just to post this message. The site is blocked by CloudFlare stating 'there is not https connection is not secure' and LL never loads. Other sites seem to be again blocked by Cloudflare as stated this is by the site owners, not CloudFlare itself as this has to be configured by the site owner who uses CloudFlare to secure their site. Very very sad times indeed, all because parents are too lazy (or stupid) to set up controls to stop their kids from accessing adult content (and before someone says it, I am a parent and I know how and have set up correct protection for my kids ever since they first started using the internet). Is LL planning to add this new Age Verification BS so we can have access without VPN ? I fear without it, LL will be blocked from many countries as they all seem to be following this trend of 'nanny state - wrap you kids in cotton wool' nonsense. Edited July 30, 2025 by special 1
LinksSword Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 It's not about protecting the children it's about control, that's why they also want to ban VPN use in the UK. 3

Plus I bet pretty much every mod author backs up their stuff locally and/or on a cloud site.  VPN restriction is something I think about as a possibility. Seems like maybe you think it's right around the corner. The reason the arrrg matey .org was easily transferable was because they hosted no files. Shutting down that site is like wack-a-mole. If the LL admins don't want to risk it, in order to transfer the site efficiently, it's better if content his hosted on encrypted sites or using encrypted torrents. All they would have to do is keep the sql databases, or whatever the backend for LL uses. Where there is a will, there is a way. It is my understanding that it was already proposed to ban the use of VPNs within the UK. Like I said, however, where there is a will there is a way. You can use starlink, but as UK is using the CCP playbook, what they'll do next is use survailence and encourage neighbors to rat out their fellow neighbors for a boost in their social score. If you get reported with an illegal antenna, there goes your social score. If your social score gets low enough, well... your heart, liver, kidneys, etc. better serve the CCP on the black market rather than in your body. Edited July 30, 2025 by AhuwgaZ 2

Age Verification like many things the government tries to justify is just a slippery slope too draconian censorship, prove me wrong, In fact i think were already seeing the proof when sites like rule34 are already pretty much banned in the UK unless you use VPN, People laughed about the idea of western countries adapting china's social credit system but i honestly believe were heading there in the next ten years. 2

I just set my VPN to a U.K. location and Loverslab loaded just fine. Whatismyipaddress.com says my IP is a G.B./N.I address. I am physically located on the west coast of North America and I sometimes experience the thing you mentioned. And I think everyone does at times. So I think what you experienced has nothing to do with the U.K. law.

Plus I have no idea what your point is in your first paragraph. Good luck in your future endeavors.

It will soon become a full on, world wide, 'one government police state'. Where if you even say anything that makes anyone uncomfortable, you can and will get arrested, and charged. Repealing or amending a law isn't what this 3.5% thing was about anyway. If you read the post I originally responded to, you'll see that it was a point about numbers. I.e. that one would need a lot more people to voice their discontent with the new law in order to pressure the government to reconsider. The 3.5% rule regards toppling governments through non-violent protest which is obviously a much, much more extreme outcome. If that's the case, it's safe to infer that one would need a lot less than 3.5% to make it very clear that something the government did is not wanted. Under these circumstances, 400k+ people essentially saying that they don't want this law is quite a lot, especially since the UK has had a few additional periods of political unrest in the last year or so. As the ruling class you can obviously ignore these circumstances that would ideally tell you to change course. Up until a certain point, anyway. 1
