ToJKa Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 I for one like DA2 and ME3. In fact i just finished playing ME3 and it's story DLCs trough with each class, and am now playing DA2. ...Dammit, there's that angry mob again. On topic, latest would be Serious Sam 3, but it was part of a Humble Bundle, so at least the money went to charity
Jerbsinator Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Deus Ex Invisible War....although I only paid $2.50 for it but it was still terrible. I tried to give it a chance but it's crap. Thankfully Human Revolution made up for it.
Roarke Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Cortex Command... *silence* Yeah, no one has played it. It never goes on sale during holidays and it hasn't been finished as of Sep. 29 2012. I got it for a friend after he gifted me Killing Floor. He asked me to get myself a copy to play co-op with him. He has many indie games in his library and the game had a nice retro style sprites, so I assumed it was worth the $40 I had to spend. Man, this game still has bugs from day one, there is only local multiplayer, and I still haven't figured out how to play the campaign. I was so disappointed.
mikegame Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 All of these were for the Xbox 360: Gears of war: Judgement - Changed how they did the story driven campaigns into separate challenge map type missions. Totally ruined the series for me. Borderlands - Worst shooter I've ever played. Total technical and gameplay clusterfuck. Gave it to my brother and told him I never want it back after only a few hours playing. Fable 3 - Good for awhile then turned into a totally lame game after I became king. Horrible game. Two Worlds 2 - Dreadful combat system and it wouldn't let me configure the screen settings so I lost half an inch on both sides so couldn't see half the text or ui. Fallout New Vegas - Still one of the most disappointing games I've ever played. I knew it was going to be bad after they gave it to Obsidian to develop and I still bought it. Everything they touch turns to shit. (almost as bad as EA). Horrible story. Game breaking bugs. Added crafting system and factions were a joke. And what kind of game that sets itself as an exploration game yet has invisible walls/borders everywhere and almost every building was inaccessible and couldn't be entered. I do play the pc version now, mainly because of all the wonderful mods that people here have made but with TTW installed it really is just a starting zone now and I take all these great mods with me to the capital wasteland of the far superior Fallout 3 game. I could list dozens more. I have like over 100 Xbox 360 games and like an idiot I pre-ordered every single one, but these were the ones I mostly regret.
Koko.Hekmatyar Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Borderlands.....Really? You are in the minority I suspect as borderlands and borderlands 2 were and still are popular. Borderlands currently has a rating of 7.8 while Borderlands 2 is sitting at 8.1. Maybe your standards for shooters is to high?
Cynical Misanthrope Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Dark Souls. I knew it was a really really bad port, but after lurking at forums and saw a few fixes and mods, I honestly thought It would make the game playable. A few people said that the game could now be played and I was dumb enough to believe them. How to survive. Game just became boring after a few hours. Lack of good skills and small inventory made it just more boring. Painkiller: Hell and Damnation. My favorite game of all time is the old Painkiller with it's expansion Battle out of Hell. A few mods that later became full games, were released, but you could tell the magic was lost. So when the announcement came, that the old PK game would get an update and a new story, I got so moist so I almost came. Got the game, and what a huge disappointment. Levels were cut out and later sold as DLC and all that bullcrap. Graphic was not really that impressive and you can tell it was just another "lets milk some dosh"
Guest Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 When I look back at all the game purchases I've ever made, the only one that I remember that I truly regret is Halo 4. Now I've been a fan of the franchise ever since Combat Evolved, and even when I heard of Bungie's departure from the license, I tried to stay optimistic. Sadly, the game crushed my optimism and any last hope I had for the franchise. Halo Reach was pretty bad, okay. But at least it was playable. Apparently, Halo 4 looked at some of the complaints in reach about how there was so much gray and shit, and decided HOLY FUCK WE'RE GOING TO ADD MEGA SATURATION AND CONTRAST AND BLOOM LIGHTING AND MOTION BLUR AND SUUUPER PARTICLE EFFECTS TO THE MAX!!! To say that this game strained my eyes is an understatement. The game is so disorientating, so hard to look at, that it boggles the mind. In this game, the FOV is a grand total of ONE. It's that bad. I can hardly see my weapons. Plus, of course, it's a console FPS, which means the movement and aiming is utter shit, but at least Halo 3 and Reach were playable in that I could fucking see things! Everyone praises this game for it's SUUUUPER GUN SOUNDS! But that doesn't mean SHIT to the gameplay. I gave up on multiplayer soon after trying it and with such weakened morale, I couldn't even live through the campaign. Because of this, a franchise that I once loved is sadly something I don't have plans of ever returning to.
Spectre_15 Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 There are two games that I have buyers remorse from purchasing. The first of the two was Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2. I bought this at the midnight release and had it beaten, 100%, by 4:30am. $60 for a 4 hour game is ludicrous. The other one is only a... kinda remorse. That game would be Rage. I loved Rage. I thought it was a lot of fun. The graphics... eh. The gameplay was a lot of fun. However, the ending of the game literally made me rage. It was literally the biggest "Hey!! We have another game coming out soon. Wanna finish the game? Fuck you, pay another $60." A few games to mention are Bioshock Infinite and Assassins Creed 3. Assassins Creed 4 was... okay, better than 3. Assassins Creed 3 was fucking HORRID. Bioshock Infinite was... honestly it's probably my second most overrated game of all time, possibly my most overrated game of all time. Both of these games were games that I didn't buy, but my family bought so I don't give them buyers remorse. One other mention is Final Fantasy X. I HATE Final Fantasy X and X-2, but I bought them knowing I was going to hate them, but wanted to play through them anyway. I didnt regret buying it, because I knew I was going to hate it anyway.
ElectricSheep Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Hands down Mass Effect 3. Not only one huge dissapointment due to the utter abysmal ending and overall silly story-development, but it ruined the other two games for me as well and made me rue the day I started with that franchise. The only good thing about that purchase is that I now have something to rant about all across the Internet until I get perma-banned from it My feelings about that game exactly. It was to be expected it's going to be inferior to it's predecessors judging by various leaks, but the final product went far beyond my wildest nightmares.
FallenWarrior Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Here's another that I really regret getting, Heroes of Might and Magic V (got it cheap, but still).
TheArkady Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Blackwater for Xbox 360 with Kinect, hands down. If you thought the average mindless shooter with a story thinner than a stripper's fishnet thong was bad, you haven't tried this baby. It redefines mindless and takes sucking nd blowing at the same time to a whole new level - and not in a good way. Seriously, compared to this, even Duke Nukem Forever is Ocarina of Time level brilliant. In fact, Blackwater is so epically bad it's my most regretted game purchase ever even though I got a promo copy for free. Other than that, I'd have to say the original Mass Effect. That's because I started on ME2, so everything that was bad about the original hit me real hard - starting with the fact the fucking Alliance sends their candidate for first human Spectre onto a mission with the worst damn equipment in the galaxy (did anyone at BioWare pause for even three seconds to think about whether that makes sense from a story perspective?). Then there's a bloody pointless unlocking stuff minigame, a ground exploration that makes no sense (why is it shipboard sensors can precisely pinpoint mineral deposits on any planet except the ones you land on?), a ridiculous equipment progression paired with a complete lack of level-adjusting opponents, a needlessly complicated skill progression, ... I might not have noticed most of it if I had started on ME1, but having played ME2 first, it really was one hell of a let-down. (Though the "send the hand-picked candidate for the prestigious and politically uber-significant position of first human Spectre on a mission with the worst equipment you could find, just so he has a better chance of failing it, for no actual good in-world reason whatsoever" part would rank high on my list ofd most epically bad logic regardless.)
Koko.Hekmatyar Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Oh Jesus the WORST mistake you can make in Gaming is playing the second or even the third game of a series before playing the first. That's like playing The Witcher 2 without playing The Witcher you have no idea of the back story.
TheArkady Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Hey, that's not always true! Final Fantasy built its franchise success around not needing to play previous parts Plus, in the case of Mass Effect, it means I really appreciate the gamepley in ME2 is leaps and bounds better as far as I'm concerned. Considering how reviewers basically gave BioWare a free ride on everything that was bad in part 1 (I think it's got a 91 metascore), there was little actual pressure to improve the gameplay (or storytelling, for that matter), so BioWare really deserve credit for doing so anyways. (Plus, I feel ME2 does a better job of filling new players in than many other sequels.) EDIT Oh, and back on topic: Worms: Ultimate Mayhem. Seriously, as great as Worms was in 2D, it's bloody awful in 3D. Whoever felt it needed that extra dimension should be subjected to endless math lectures on n-dimensional Hilbert spaces for punishment. (Well, unless they're a mathematician. Then, endless reruns of Jersey Shore instead.)
Koko.Hekmatyar Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 FF doesn't count as each game with the exception of FFX/FFX-2 and FFXIII/FFXIII-2 have all had completely different stories, settings, and characters. meaning you can play any of them in any order.
ElectricSheep Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Hey, that's not always true! Final Fantasy built its franchise success around not needing to play previous parts That's the worst possible example to enforce your argument. Every FF is basically a different game, Square just uses the title to refer to a specific type of gameplay.
Spectre_15 Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 A better argument than Final Fantasy would be The Legend of Zelda. You can pick up any Zelda game without playing any of the previous, and get right into the game. They are somewhat self-contained, but connected in ways that only hardcore fans can find out. Even Majora's Mask doesn't require you to play Ocarina of Time, despite being a direct sequel using the same Link.
Snoopy911 Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Assassins Creed Liberation is my new favorite for a worst ever title. Pre ordered it while playing Black Flag without checking any details about the game, hmm let's call it console tech demo instead of game, and it's a little bit different than expected .
Koko.Hekmatyar Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I've played ACL all the way through. Other then it being shorter then the standard AC Game and the different personas it was fundamentally the same as every other AC Game in fact I'm hoping they take some of the ideas from ACL and use them in the next AC Game.
FallenWarrior Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Men of War: Assault Squad (a pure Multiplayer game) Ground Control II (released half finished) Shadow Company Neverwinter Nights: Kingmaker Note: Got them all really cheap.
Kaz Aanh Posted January 26, 2014 Author Posted January 26, 2014 Men of War: Assault Squad (a pure Multiplayer game) Ground Control II (released half finished) Shadow Company Neverwinter Nights: Kingmaker Note: Got them all really cheap. Why Kingmaker ? It was really fun module and almost fully voiced . It was a bit too short but basicaly every Nwn module was interesting and unique in its own way. Also I liked that they included more NPC emotions and skills checks in the dialogues. I would like also add X3 games becouse whe I've launched them once I get scared and lost in UI ( so many options , what i should do ,where to go ) and immidiately unninstalled . . .
FallenWarrior Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I'm referring to all 3 modules, because they're either to short or incomplete.
Kpnut Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 For me it has to be Dishonored and ME3. Dishonored is because, while it's not a bad game, it's a first person game and I suck at any FPwhatever game (Fallout and TES are kinda the exceptions to this), can add Halo 3 to this if I hadn't have gotten it with my 360. I'll take third person perspective over first any day. ME3 is for the following: 1. Liara being forced down our throats; she’s not an interesting character, is too specialised combat wise, has the most alternate costumes and is just a fucking Creator’s Pet in general 2. Lack of new squadmates, there are a grand total of TWO new squadmates in the main game, one of whom isn’t technically “new” and you only get a third one if you get From Ashes. They could’ve at least dropped a couple of characters (I’d say Tali and Liara or if push comes to shove the Virmire survivor) for a few new characters, or better yet just added them anyway. 3. The handling of any romance not with Liara, especially Miranda’s, it made all that time sunk into the other romances pointless. 4. No Krogan, Vega and Javik sort of make up for it but it’s just not the same without one. 5. Omega, From Ashes and Leviathan as well as the additional weapon and costume packs being DLC, they should have been in the main game already. 6. “Forgetting” past events, especially noticeable in From Ashes when Shepard can see the Prothean data and your squadmates can’t. This was mentioned in ME1 with a Prothean VI on Ilos that Shepard could understand but your squadmates couldn’t, it was ourtright stated that the fact Shepard was able to understand it was because s/he had the cipher in ME1 it would make sense that it’s because of the cipher that s/he can understand whereas their squadmates who don’t have the cipher can’t. That’s the main example, but there are others. 7. No final boss fight, usually this can be alright if its pulled off right but ME3 doesn’t you get 1 Marauder that dies in 2 shots with the murder pistol. 8. The fucking Starchild, the character is one of the most obnoxious in the game purely for it being a FUCKING CHILD, the words “you can’t” sound like he’s having a tantrum and of course the fact Shepard can’t tell him about the stuff that’s supposedly impossible that they pulled off. 9. The Dream sequences, I get that they’re supposed to show what Shepard is going through but they’re tedious and, on a purely personal level, my sense of direction in gaming (I managed to get lost in a completely linear dungeon in Guild Wars once) sucks I get turned around in those things so many times and it starts to feel like its padding 10. The fucking multiplayer, Mass Effect is a single player game so shoehorning multiplayer into it and then forcing us to play it to get the best possible ending despite stating that it wasn’t required is bullshit. 11. The War Assets’ values make NO SENSE case in point: Diana Allers who is on the fucking Normandy is only worth 5 points whereas whatsherface that gets punched by Shepard is worth 10 points despite not being near the frontlines. 12. The lack of incentive in playing Renegade, you lose more then you gain if you play Renegade which kinda fucks the entire point in having a choice in how you play the game (its paragon or you’re fucked.) 13. The Endings, ignoring the fact we get a choice between 3 different cupcakes (pre-EC) and the fact that they pull the synthesis ending out of nowhere or the fact that the Starchild is the most annoying character in the entire fucking series (just edging out Kai Leng who’s a dick) or that the multiplayer had more time spent on it or that you don’t know what happens to your squad (both pre and post EC) but the fact it’s the ENDING of the series (I will refuse to accept ME 4 as canon when it comes out) and it’s just so shit is like a kick to the balls for the people who sunk all that time in the series, it feels as if I wasted that time. The bits in red are the main reasons, and yes I did just list everything that I hated about ME3 and that made it a purchase I regret.
Chuck Finley Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 words about mass effect 3I'm pretty much in the same boat here, though it's not that I regret buying ME3 as much as it's that I regret ME3 existing. I've got a bit of buyer's remorse over Remember Me, which I have played for a whopping 68 minutes. I've also got preemptive buyer's remorse for FFXIII: Lightning Returns. It's not that I think it will be bad or unenjoyable, but the collector's edition has a $90 price tag. That's a lot of money for a single game. Oh, I also have buyer's remorse over Bioshock: Infinite, which is both amazing and terrible at the same time. It's quite a conundrum.
M.BISON Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Yep, I think MGR:R is going on my regret buying list at least until they do an update or I figure out WTF is wrong with my game that is stopping me from using blade mode on the last part of the final boss fight. what are you talking about!? i had no problems you just use blade mode when prompted and the red square indicates where to cut/hit him
