Kind9 Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Today's metal is far too processed and refined to be considered 'brutal' imo. Too many also focus on the more exotic guitar scales instead of the groove and feel found in blues rock; the genre that birthed metal to begin with. To me, brutal is hearing something that sounds like their equipment is on the verge of failure and gives off a raw, grueling sound but maintains a sense of style. This is why I listen to sludge/doom/stoner and occasionally some thrash as they remain true to metal's root influence. http://youtu.be/5cKkdwAaljM http://youtu.be/zigzUqP1fM4 You haven't heard over-produced metal until you've heard melodic metalcore.
Vancien Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 I also very much dig this band... Something about them seems very Mega Death'esque. I like Claudio Sanchez's unique voice.
gvman3670 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chiVMrWMHko LMAO! I see Scotty playing guitar in that video. Awesome. More videos with ol' Scotty and the rest of the boys. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjwdKqPOp4Q
jonas_opines Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Ha, great memories of high-school angst, thankee gvman3670. Hearing Only by Anthrax makes me want to pull my guitar out. Been ages. Hmmm . . . a contribution . . . . Let's go with one each from the three bands I saw at my first concert, at 13 years old. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8gHMU-pDbU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVMvART9kb8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-HzFACAedk
Atreyu Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 I just looked at the OPs link, and I prefer bands that actually sing.
SplitResonator Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 how about some Swedish folk metal now for some thrash
hazarada Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I consider metal to be my favorite genre but i rarely listen to something pure metal or "brutal" , i always seem to be hanging out at the fringes of its definition.. like this maybe.
NexusVetX94 Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 mushroomhead are one of the best bands in my opinion
itt1968 Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 I totally agree with WASP as One of the Legends of Metal, though the choice of song... not even close!!! Chainsaw Charlie... Wild Child... Animal and how can you not mention "DEAD or ROCK"?! Sorry.. huge WASP fan here but lets not forget Judas Priest... Metallica... Ronnie James Dio or even ... shall I dare say it... OZZY!!! I cant remember how many speakers I had blown listening to the Diary of a Madman album ( Yes, a vinyl ) !!! and I have to give an honorable mention to Sebastian Bach's Slave to the Grind album.... I still get goosebumps cranking that one UP. LONG LIVE METAL!!!! As for my Favorite song of all time... WOW!!! GNR "You could be Mine" ... OR ... OzzY "Diary of a Madman" http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=CzB5hFINC_k

Here's one of my favourite metal tracks: Although Bleed is great song. OP's version sounds like Bolt Thrower.
Regallag the Perv Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 hmmm how about I add some exotic stuff to this conversation I honestly haven't heard any metal like this before...I have all their albums they are all awesome! Satan's bloody asshole, that was awesome! I can't beleive I've never heard of those guys before, but I'm sure glad I have now. Thank you, brother!
jxm Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Pft ... most brutal metal video ever ... anything else is for sissies ...
Mr. Manguy Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_e5tMtxTAc I'll just leave this right here.
EternalDamned Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 The King and Queen of metal join together to bring you....One of the Greatest....Love Ballads of all time! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zy3fJ8Nmzyw
Regallag the Perv Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 This seems like an appropriate place to put the most brutal book reading of all time as a tribute to Dave Brockie (definitely NSFW):
illuminaughty Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJ0sW7KOFhU If i should fall in battle my brothers who fight by my sideGather my horse and weapons tell my family how i diedUntil then i will be strong I will fight for all that is realAll who stand in my way will die by steel
Insidiator Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 It's not the greatest, but it is awesome : Moonspell, Night eternal. God I love the excess of metal...
Thelargir Posted April 21, 2014 Author Posted April 21, 2014 Havent heard of Moonspell before! Sounds great! I'll definitely have to check it out some more. BTW, this is one of my all time favorites: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrBrH5PZtcc
tentaclemight Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 What about some Amon Amarth? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HLbkmTqrZ4 And now, something "different"... I've seen it labeled as "ethno metal". I really love this song, it has a long metal-less build-up but I don't recomend skipping it. The ininterrupted metal part starts at 6:15 but ignoring the beginning is not recommended.
