Need Help Getting Started with/installing lover's lab

So it seems in my very first attempt to download and make these mods for skyrim work, I have disabled the game altogether (won't even launch). How do I get the mods to work or even allow the game to open again?

  1. Your load order seems to be missing the SKSE scripts. Fix that, or make sure they're otherwise installed.
  2. Can't tell from the screenshot whether or not its going to launch Skyrim through SKSE, make sure it does that.
  3. Make sure you have no missing master plugins.
  4. Inspect skse64.log.
  5. Get a crash logger.

As you're not telling us anything - what kind of help do you expect?

Does the base game run?

Do you have any experience in modding any game, or is this your first time?

Have you even played Skyrim before?

No, you've just fucked up. Happens. Undo what you did before, try again.

Your LO looks weird, why do you have two times SKSE64 installed, what were the warnings, and which game version do you even have? 2.2.6 is for AE 1.6.1170

Edit: Just looked it up in my own install: SKSE shouldn't even be visible in Vortex, you install that following the instructions on skse.silverlock.org - that's no normal Drag&Drop mod, that's something external.

Admittedly I am new to running mods altogether, and may need a step-by-step list of what to do. The base game runs since I have it through steam but I am not sure what load order or order in general to install and run the steps.

Step Zero:

think for yourself. Just because some guy from the internet tells you to do this and that - check if it fits for you.

Okay. Uninstall all your mods - use Vortex for that. Or scrap that folder and install Skyrim anew - do what's easier for you.

If you make a new install - don't do it in c:\program, that's bound to make trouble.

When downloading mods - keep them in a folder just for your Skyrim downloads. When you need to set up your game anew (new machine, being stupid, rain of frogs in Klatch) you don't need to search high and low, but have them ready at hand.

I have a diary with installed mods, and add notes to what I like and dislike - and if something goes wrong (again) it's easier to retrace your steps.

Soo, back to the start, you've either made a new setup or disabled all mods.

Start the base game, see if it runs. You'll get that pesky cart ride, let it run until you're asked to create a new character. Open the Console, type qqq and quit the game. You don't want to see that cart ride ever again, and hopefully don't need that tutorial dungeon.

On the other hand, if you want to go through the tutorial dungeon, do it now (in that case, don't quit the game) and make a hard save upon exiting the cave, when Ralof or Hadvar asked to to go to Riverwood. You'll need this save often.

If you're not familiar with Vortex - it comes with a few videos. I think the first two are actually worth watching.

Install your first mod:

Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch - USSEP

If you've been through the tutorial dungeon and have a save - use it now, see if your game still runs.

If you don't have that save, install your next mod:

Alternate Start - Live Another Life - SSE

LAL is what most people use. You start in a cell in the abandoned prison and choose where you'll be starting your game. The mainquest won't start until you've travelled to Helgen.

If you want a completely dragon-free Skyrim, there's Skyrim Unbound - but this edits quite a lot of the mainquest, so most mods that assume you're the Dragonborn won't run.

With one of these, you can start a new game in seconds instead of watching that cart ride again and again.

This thread might be a good starting point to venture further into Skyrim AE. And as i said in the beginning: those are some guys opinions on what's good and what not. I've only followed the first few steps and ran off in a different direction.

No, I agree, and thank you. I do need to make sure this stuff works for me first. I am just trying to do it all too quickly it seems when I just got the SKSE launch down myself.

Now I'm onto downloading the framework needed for the mods I'd like to install and will have to work on FNIS soon. Sexlab itself is interesting as the location I need to put everything in the files is wjhat I'm looking up next.

I do get this error in game when trying to run sexlab:

They are just stuck in a constant T-pose, player character and NPCs

That happens when you install a mod with animations (like Sexlab) but forgot to run FNIS.

(or the FNIS output goes to the wrong folder, but it should ask you where your game is located on first start)

I wouldn't use the Vortex button for FNIS, I always had it seperately as shortcut on my desktop.

Ah, that makes sense! Well, thank you for all your help! I've managed to get a game running with the intended features. Next I'll have to install a mod that still lets me get achievements while doing so. Until next time!
