This reddit response annoyed me so I would like your opinions

Here is the post

Basically a guy posted some screenshots of his sort of strip club in Starfield, complete with a narrative he made up, and the /starfield sub dumped on him big time. There were some positives but mostly negative, and very disrespectful, sometimes nasty stuff...

I mean, it's reddit.. I get that.. Most of those people probably can't screw in a lightbulb let alone create their own mod and unique environment in the game. But it kind of shocked me...

I was getting a sinking feeling about that reddit and the new type of audience Starfield has, but again, I was not prepared for seeing that...

What do you think? Is this just a Starfield thing or are we generally loathed?

I'm proud of my sexy mods regardless and amused by the whole silly, sexy waifu scene that developed around Skyrim. Even if it was stupid it was fun and very creative.

:)

Some People only feel good about themselves by tearing down others plus it's the web, nobody to keep them in check.

That's Reddit for you. Everywhere you go, there's a gaggle of Woke Police everywhere you go ready to leap to the attack in the vain hope that they might get a pity fuck from a passing feminist.

I wouldn't mind but it was properly marked as NSFW and nothing more revealing than bra-and-knickers on. You can see more salacious in the clothing aisles in supermarkets.

Reddit just flat out sucks. But it's kind of funny that the thread does have quite a few upvotes. But so do the stupid top comments.

Anyway, people should just start to ignore this astroturfed website anyway. Full of bots and karma farmers. More than once I got a severe case of déjà-vu, thinking I read a certain thread some time ago. Even with the same fucking top comments. Then I found out it's just reposted with the same bots in it.

Ignore it and move on is the most healthy advice I can offer.

On another note:

I don't really dig the vibe Starfield gives me a lot. Not a fan of hard scifi or NASA Punk. Also funny that some other space games did manage to do adult themes in a PG rated game better than Starfield from what I heard about the game (never played Starfield, because my PC is a bit too underpowered for it. Not big enough of an SSD I have.)

I would interpret NASA punk as sticking somewhat to the natural sciences when designing planets and moons... but then there are so many "outliers" ("bullshit") in the actual game that NASA should really distance itself from this game

and this "nightclub" in neon... it is such an embarrassment - it has absolutely nothing to do with the real abundance of clubs that exist today.

Not even in the wild 1960s - when people were very into "future" styling - would anyone have come up with something so uninspired.

Mod authors can do much better - various mods on this site (or on Nexus) prove this... but for games like "Skyrim" or "Fallout-4"

Even in "Fallout New Vegas" the casinos were much better.

And Starfield has absolutely nothing to do with hard sci-fi... the mere existence of "Jedi"-like powers explodes the sci-fi genre... and leads to "space operas" ala StarWars.

Examples of hard sci-fi here would be the "Dune" series or games like "Mass Effect"... or we go back far into the past -> "WingCommander"

on the main topic:

I logged into this "forum" (reddit) again after a long time... it only takes a few comments to turn around again

-

no - it has absolutely nothing to do with StarField (the game is really bad)... my wife (a frequent user of "reddit") told me - that the moderation in the sub-area often takes some getting used to.

-

Then I always think of the comic "Watchmen" -> "Who watches the watchmen?"

OP basically answered their own question, "it's Reddit".

I mean, besides that, yeah, degenerates like us are generally looked down upon outside of specific communities. Nevermind the fact that in reality a fair few of them are probably just as bad in private, they just refuse to embrace it the same way, it's just another way for them to feel morally superior, I guess.

To my mind, "woke" is a bit like "social justice warrior". It's not that anyone really objects to the notion of social justice, and fighting for justice should be generally recognized as a good thing. But "SJW" got to be used as a pejorative because of the obnoxious holier-than-thou attitude of so many of these self-proclaimed warriors.

It's the same with "woke". The original concept is unobjectionable enough, but I've seen far too many opinionated assholes (no offense intended to  your good self) stick their noses in where they weren't wanted and try and spoil everyone else's fun in the name of some distorted point of political doctrine. So again, the term has come to be used as a pejorative.

But yeah, you're not wrong about Reddit.

Pretty sure Todd Howard called the game NASA Punk, which obviously is about the aesthethics of the game. Or maybe it's from some other pre release info I got that. Not sure. But those aesthethics do not speak to me at all.

I'd rather call The Expanse Hard Scifi than any of these. But I don't know too much about those to judge. And if I remember correctly, the terminology with hard scifi and soft scifi was how scientifically accurate the technology would be. And in that case, most scifi I personally like do have a lot of Science magic elements in it. Like Star Trek, which also has 'Jedi' Powers, godlike beings and other stuff. But I could be mistaking something here.

At the end of the day, Starfield doesn't have the soft scifi vibes that I like. The different alien species, the ultra advanced high tech stuff and such. Thus it is not so interesting to me and I see it closer to the hard scifi category because of this. And no, the magic powers do not make it more interesting for me either.

But anyway, this topic is about reddit. And Reddit has been going downhill for years. It's especially bad due to the constant politics bullshit going on. Someone always wants to push their ideas onto someone else forcefully. And not many subreddits put a stop to that. Plus Reddit is literally used in propaganda wars by countries to destabilise their rivals. You can see bots from certain countries trying to push their bullshit quite often.

Anonymity brings out the worst in people. I never knew how toxic my brother was in video games until I watched him play dota and saw his in-game chat.

Also the owner of that post really should have posted that in a NSFW Starfield sub. Know your audience and what not.

I can't see it because I don't have an account there, but let me guess because I'm 99% sure that it's the same shit that we've seen a million times before:

1. Sex bad

2. Porn bad

3. Unfuckable neckbeard calling someone a virgin because they do sexual stuff in a video game

4. It will turn people into sexual predators who treat women like sex toys

5. At least one mouth breather who says something like "ehhh it's weird and I don't get it and ehhh ;/"

6. Doing that in a video game means that you treat women like sex toys in real life

It's basically a circle jerk of brainlets.

Reddit is a community of people that posture, in attempt to look the best in intellectual and moral character amongst all of their peers.

The logic found in reddit in regards to this topic is often contradictory, with users who's ideals are a little quirky. In the example of the OPs strip club narrative post, you would find that a redditor would be respectful of night workers and strip performers careers, but know not to sexualize them. Since the profession of sex work revolves entirely around sex, this isn't a solvable formula. Additionally, the current socially acceptable rhetoric regarding women and their appearances is also contradictory, and you'll find that rhetoric espoused all over reddit.

Since OP is likely male and is enjoying himself with creating a strip club, he is publicly shamed for displaying higher than desired levels of testosterone on reddit. The users of reddit hope that this will cause the OP to avoid sharing posts such as that any longer, because male users that are too attracted to women are incels, neckbeards, creeps, and sex pests in the eyes of reddit, and therefore must be made an example of to the other users who may be thinking about doing the same thing.

This logic doesn't apply to female users. Long story short, reddit is a horrible place where people who pretend to be morally upright shake hands with each other in a circle and kick out anyone who challenges their ideals in spectacular fashion. The same could be said about any tight knit community on the internet. If I were to sperg out about a strip club concept I made in a game, reddit wouldn't be the place I did so unless I wanted to kick the proverbial beehive for a laugh.

What you saw, reminds me of Cyberpunk 2077.  The game got brutalized.

I had never seen that style or fervor of feedback for any game in my life.

I have not see anything LESS than that style of feedback for games since...

as though critics picked up on a specific style of post that best generates click bait.

Ignore the haters. It's about generating rage clicks that they can link.

Spot on.. It brings me some joy to envision the kink shamers swinging their mighty digital handbags of doom with their right hand while they're probably browsing LL and spamming the download button with their left.

Honestly, I stopped using Reddit or even visiting the site once it became apparent that the majority of users were either slightly retarded teenagers or moderately retarded adults blurting out and spouting whatever came to mind, mostly looking for shock value, without actually engaging their brain first. --- The world has gotten much to 'woke' for my liking and calling them ignorant or stupid doesn't have the same flavor as calling them 'tards'.

No disrespect too mentally handicapped individuals, I don't believe I've ever met one that was as unhappy or asinine as the individuals on that site.

The last time I perused the site it basically just seemed be a platform to belittle anyone you disagree with without any consequences or repercussions.

This pretty much sums it up for me. When I was on reddit, I frequented subreds for Dungeons & Dragons and similar games. The posts that the got lots of upvotes were posts that were poorly done AI "artwork" images of the poster's Half-Dragonborn/Half-Tiefling Bard with purple skin. My impression of reddit is, like yours, that it's not a place for thoughtful discussions, it's a place for circle jerking.

What's funny is that they probably watch porn and do 3 and 6, but still feel like they can judge people for it. The internet is full of hypocrisy. On the other hand we can be grateful that we have a friendly and mature community here at LL, where people aren't judged for posting or talking about mods with adult content.
